They know they need sleep for the festival tomorrow, and to continue the plan. But with Susie sounding so uncertain after getting their mother to quiet down, only the reminder of their promise stops them from jumping out the window to follow her.
It's in the midst of this internal debate, Kris hears the soul tapping rhythmically on the bars of it's cage.
Kris knows what that tapping means.

When Senkuu develops a quiet habit of tapping rhythmic patterns against his lab table or on himself, no one pays it any mind.. except Gen, who quickly realizes the sounds aren’t random at all. Curious, he asks to learn Morse code under the excuse of practicality, and Senku agrees without a second thought. But as Gen begins to understand the patterns, he uncovers messages that feel far too deliberate, and far too personal to be meaningless. Unsure if he’s reading it right, he turns to Ukyo for confirmation… only to find that the words Senku can’t seem to say out loud, Gen had understood and decoded it perfectly, hidden in dots and dashes the whole time. Senku's other way of managing his thoughts that he doesn't know how to express.

But the pain went away, leaving him in a familiar place. This... this was the room Dark Sun kept his witherstorm, Knox remembered it well. He remembered talking to it almost every day, it was his friend. That must have meant the person sitting in front of him, the familiar 'moon' was him in the past. Knox knew he could somehow get his past self to not make the same mistakes, but how could he if he was the witherstorm? He couldn't say a thing, all he could do was move his claw.
