Like a carefree, flying bird.

Summary:

The baby bird looks into the tired one's eyes. Their color is bright, yet there is no light in them. The bird moves for no other reason than because it can. It survives, but it doesn't live.
Tales tell that everyone the bird meets is destined to perish.

...Is that really true, though?

Notes:

A fic I wrote at 5 in the morning because I couldn't sleep. Arcane is so good aaaa
Written while listening to Isha's song on loop (shocker I know)

Work Text:

There's a baby bird all alone in her nest.
It learned to fly before most, and managed to escape the claws of her predators. She has known nobody else to call an ally.
The bird runs, and runs, and runs. However, the bird is still young, and her wings cannot save her.
The world would have called for her demise then and there, but fate would not have it. Out of the blue, a tired bird finds her and gets rid of her pursuers.
The baby bird looks into the tired one's eyes. Their color is bright, yet there is no light in them. The bird moves for no other reason than because it can. It survives, but it doesn't live.

Tales tell that everyone the bird meets is destined to perish..

The baby bird is fascinated by her rescuer. She follows it excitedly. Someone to call an ally. A friend? The tired one looks at her curiously, like it's confused why anyone would look up to it.
The baby bird and the tired one spend many nights together. The baby bird learns how to fend for herself better. The tired one regains a long lost spark inside it. Looking at the baby bird, it can't help but be reminded of someone the world had eaten for being too weak.
The world was a fool.

They sleep together, they eat together, they play together, they fight together.

Over time, they become almost like family.
The bright-eyed bird feels as if each silence is more peaceful and serene, and each noise louder, yet more full of emotion. The quiet baby bird at its side gives it purpose and happiness it has not known since it first cursed its own family. It wishes with all its heart that the baby bird does not suffer that same curse.
The baby bird grows. She sees the world for what it is, what it has always been, ruthless, unforgiving, and... beautiful.
Their eyes open wide, both the birds realize that the world can be wonderful. It brought them together after all, didn't it?

When the birds are separated, they fight to hell and back to get each other back. When the bright-eyed bird finds a long lost sister, the baby bird doesn't question it, because she trusts her more than anything.
When they find a refuge, untouched by the chaos from the outside, they all get to see each other. Really see each other.
And they all notice something. They're all so alike, and yet so, so unique. They all have a charge, a potential unlike any other. They're not perfect, but that matters to none of them.

For a moment, the baby and the bright-eyed bird stare at each other, relief in their eyes. For a moment, they are happy.
And it is then that, with all its heart, the bright-eyed bird wishes it could stay in that one moment forever.
...But it's inescapable, isn't it? Humanity.

...When a roaring beast awakens, the bright-eyed girl doesn't know what to do. All she had worked for had been taken from her in an instant once again.

As for the kid, she thinks to run away. But after all this time, she finally has someone to call family. Someone she can't leave behind. Someone who saved her.
...Someone she can save.
And with not a single doubt in her mind, she runs towards the beast.
The bright-eyed girl notices what's happening too late. Her desperate pleas swallowed by the battlefield.
The kid looks at her, tears in her eyes. 'Don't lose that spark.', she hopes. 'I'm fine the way I am.'

Tales tell that everyone the bird meets is destined to perish.
But since Isha met Jinx, she has truly lived.
...Like a carefree, flying bird.
