Summary
Madge is alone in her bedroom the night of the reaping, holding a simple cloth that held strawberries years ago. Unsurprisingly, the mayor’s daughter's name wasn't drawn.
Katniss finds herself looking out the window of a train heading towards the Capitol, stroking a golden pin. She is a tribute in the 74th Annual Hunger Games.
But that night, hundreds of miles apart, they are thinking of the same moment. Not when Primrose Everdeen’s name rang across the square. Not when Katniss volunteered. Not when the luckiest girl in the district gave the unluckiest girl the mockingjay pin, but the moment after.
Katniss can almost feel the pleasant warmth on her cheek. Madge can almost feel the cool sensation on her lips.
