ScAvenGers

Summary:

"How do you pronounce this?”

A small smile formed under Krok’s mask as he read the word over before looking back to Goryu. “ScavengErs.”

Notes:

Ough, i thought of this at the beginning of last year and only now got around to doing it lmao. Admittedly very short but I still had fun writing these two again. :]

Work Text:

Things were able to be settled rather quickly between the two crews despite the rough first introductions. It had only taken about half of the first day for everyone to become fully acquainted with each other, the other half of it being spent finding where the Dinoforce could rest, and about two hours for everyone to find their rhythm with one another.

Placed all together in a small ship for an undetermined amount of time as they were made for a rather rowdy bunch, but they were doing alright. Five days in, Krok could see most everyone on board mingling casually with one another as they went about their tasks, and any rough housing was kept playful with no real damage done to either his crew or his ship.

Everything was actually rather quiet and calm all things considered, and no true complaints had been made or brought up yet.

Which was why it came as a surprise to Krok when Goryu came bounding down the hall towards his pseudo office at full speed in his dino mode with a bewildered expression across his face. As he walked into the office he transformed back to root mode and began frantically waving his arms around as he paced side to side trying to find his words.

Krok watched on in mild concern before speaking. “Something wrong?” Goryu struggled for a moment longer before simply sighing and turning to fully look at Krok.

“How do you pronounce it?”

“Begging your pardon?”

“The name. Your name. I mean-” A frustrated huff escaped from Goryu before he pointed towards a data pad laying on the desk. Krok handed it over and watched as he typed away at the screen before turning it back so he could read it, ‘Scavengers’ being typed out in big font. “This. How do you pronounce this?”

A small smile formed under Krok’s mask as he read the word over before looking back to Goryu. “ScavengErs.”

Amusement radiated from Krok as the mech before him stared at him with a pained expression before setting the data pad back down and taking a seat across from him. He looked defeated. “You’re also not pronouncing it right.”

Krok steepled his hands under his chin as he leaned on his desk. “Whatever do you mean?” He was sure Goryu could hear the mirth in his voice if the look the mech was giving him was anything to go by.

“That word. Scavengers. None of you pronounce it right.” Goryu waved his hands around as he spoke. “I thought I was imagining things that night in the jail but you pronounce it all… weird.”

“Really? How so?” Krok tried to play innocent a while longer but he could feel a chuckle threatening to escape. “I’m just saying ScaVengers.”

This time Krok couldn’t hold in the equal parts startled laugh and yelp that escaped him as Goryu shot up from his seat and launched himself across the desk so he could take hold of him and shake him by the shoulders. “Why do you change the way you say it?! I thought I was going crazy!”

Krok couldn't help but continue to laugh as the mech before him shook him a little more before finally stopping. In the next moment, Goryu dropped his head down onto Krok’s shoulder, something sounding like an “oh my god” escaped him alongside a weary sigh as he let his head rest there for a moment. The last of Krok’s laughter died down before he reached up to pat Goryu on the back.

“There, there. You ain’t losing your mind just yet. Gotta give it a few weeks for the insanity to really settle in.” Krok knocked his head against the side of Goryu’s as the mech let out a small chuckle at his statement.

“You can keep your insanity. I’ve already got my own to deal with, thank you.” After a moment longer, Goryu finally lifted his head and pushed away from the shoulder he’d been leaning on.

Krok hummed in amusement as he gave Goryu one last pat on the shoulder before slightly turning back towards his desk. “Didn’t think the name would drive you up the wall like that. Really funny actually. You’re the first person I can think of that’s actually brought it up to me.”

“Hmm, well I’m glad my brief bout of hysteria was to your amusement.” There was no bite to Goryu’s words as he swayed in place for a moment before seemingly deciding on something. “Your crewmate, the pink one that flies-”

“Specify.”

“Mistfire?”

“Misfire.”

“Right, him. I think he got wise to the fact that the constant name change was getting to me a bit and I think he brought my men in on the fact. They’ve been hounding me all afternoon, bringing up the word whenever they can.”

Krok gave a small sigh before muttering a small, “of course.”

“I was wondering, if it wasn’t a bother to you, if I could stay in here a while. My guys seem to be a little weary of you still so I’m hoping your presence will deter them from bothering me for a bit.” Goryu sounded hopeful as he spoke, and in the end Krok couldn’t find it in his spark to send his new found … friend back out there for his own dino crew to razz him. He did after all have first hand experience what it was like for his own men to bother him nonstop with harmlessly annoying things.

After a moment he finally gave a small nod, and tried not to show his amusement as Goryu seemed to deflate with relief. “I don’t mind one bit. You can stay here as long as you feel the need to. Just keep away from the door. Just because your guys won’t come trudging in here, doesn’t mean mine won’t.”

“Alright, I think I can do that.” Goryu gave a small thankful nod before stepping away from Krok’s desk in order to transform back into dino mode.

Krok watched him as he stretched out his limbs and looked around the small office space before he came back to his side and laid down on the floor by his chair, settled in with a huff and closed his eyes. If anyone were to come in they would only be able to see the dino captain's head and tail poking out from behind opposite ends of the desk, fully asleep. Krok wouldn’t say it aloud but he thought the sight of it would be a little endearing actually. With a huff of his own, he pushed the thought from his mind and turned back to whatever paperwork he had been working on before Goryu had made his way inside.

Absentmindedly, Krok made a mental note that the beastformers tail was laid out behind him so he wouldn’t accidentally roll into it if he went to get up once he was done.
