There was something therapeutic with watching the way the ocean rolls to the shore. Ilmestys had rather always found the ocean calming, perhaps that is because of the repetitive motion of the water, or maybe because of his origin. He IS of ocean borne after all.
He found it soothing. Regardless of where he ends up in, as long as there is an ocean body nearby, he would soon feel at home.
He found himself idly sifting through the sands while sitting by the beach as his lover sat beside him, softly combing through his hair. He watched in awe as his lover’s clever hands carefully weaved his messy hair into one intricate braid.
He found such a notion to be amazing, having seen no such thing prior to meeting Ajisai, his very amazing lover. A being truly out of his reach.
He looked at their eyes, beautiful ones that sparkled like germs under the sunlight. He found it simply breathtaking.
He often sat and pondered as to why they had chosen him out of anyone else who might’ve been far more worth it to be graced by their love.
He’d never doubt them, but why him? When there are others who are far stronger and smarter than he ever will be, others who may be kinder and softer than he is. Others who could give them more. What was it about him that made them look at him and say, “Yes, that’s the one.”
There are others who are far better choices, not like he truly believes there is anyone else who is really deserving, he doesn’t, simply because Ajisai is far too good for anyone. Including him.
They were too good for anyone, even him.
Yet he found himself being selfish still as he reached out embraced the other. Hiding his face at the crook of the others neck as he felt, more than heard, them laughing.
He smiled softly, as he started to card his fingers through their hair. Trying but failing to mimic their earlier ministrations.
He huffed dejectedly, failing once again. He could never seem to get it right, and that always frustrated him to no end.
Ajisai laughed again, a sound that had become his favorite, he could feel his earlier frustrations melt away. He’d do anything so long as the other would always smile, he loved it too when they’d smile at him, he feels as if he’s the only one that truly matters at moments like those. Like he meant more than the world to the other.
A nagging at the back of his head whispers that to be false. Despite that, he chose to believe, and whether or not that whisper may be true, he loves them, and he’d continue to believe that he was the same to them as they were to him.
And soon, he started laughing at his own grief. Having failed to do what they do for him, he still tries anyway. He shook his head, an idiotic smile to his face as he buried his face on their hair. Letting the silence wash over them as they continued embracing each other.
It hadn’t been long soon after when Ajisai had suddenly sprang up and dragged him under the waters. It took less time than that for them to reach a reasonable distance under it. A place where they could see an economic system swim around.
Ilmestys watched as the other let go of his hand (much to his dismay), to go look for seashells. He smiled and settled down on the ocean floor, happy to just watch as the other swim around from one place to another looking for the prettiest seashells and rocks they could find.
He watched, feeling enamored and in awe, a habit he can’t seem to shake (not like he would, if he can), despite having been doing this for several times before. He doesn’t think he’ll ever stop.
He giggled as Ajisai started to blow heart shaped bubbles at him. His cheeks flushing blue, loving everything the other does. From the way they move, to the way they talk and the warmth that he feels whenever they laugh. He’d love them through everything.
Ilmestys smiled, and blowed a bubble in the shape of a little fish to go circle around the soon dissipating heart that they had first made. The cute little motions made them laugh, again. He makes sure to keep in mind to keep doing it more.
Eventually, Ajisai came back with arms filled with an assortment of ocean bodies, ranging from seashells, to seaweeds and some star fishes. His eyes shined with excitement, similarly to that of a small bird flying over the world for the first time.
They dumped everything in front of him. Making wordless demands to sort through it for them, as they start to weave those in his hair. The process becomes a little tricky as they were still under water, with both of their hair floating.
It was tricky, but nothing they hadn’t done countless of times before.
Ilmestys had always felt comfortable with this little habit of theirs. It was something they started doing long before they even started dating. And we wouldn’t trade it for the world.
“You look the prettiest covered seashells,” Ajisai said, eyes twinkling in delight. He huffed, “You’d look far more beautiful than me.” He answered, and it was true. They were the most beautiful and amazing person, even more so than the Gods themselves.
And the world can only feel undeserving of that fact. Ajisai giggled, softly poking his cheek. He sighed, wordlessly asking them to turn around so he could start doing the same.
Peace and love, that was all he could feel at the moment. Happy beyond words could ever explain. They were both in a world of their own making, knowing nothing but love and the way they danced and laughed together.
And with the fishes swimming around them, with the sand beneath their bodies, and happiness and love blooming in their hearts, he begun to sing.
“A love immortal such as mine.. will come to me,”
