Chapter 1: -1-

Chapter Text

Ivy was stood outside Himerdingers office, all of her research in one folder held tightly to her chest. This was the moment that she had been waiting for her whole life, she just had to show, the theories, the papers and evidence to the dean and he would give her the go ahead with her research and she would be able to revolutionise biochemistry for the entire future of Piltover.

Suddenly there was a sound from behind the shut door and a student left, tears in his eyes and ran down the corridor. Everyone knew it was hardest step to get Himerdinginer to give the okay to do research, especially in the departments of biology and chemistry, but she was determined to show him how important this was.

Himerdinger appeared at the door, his small pet right behind him. "Ah, hello Ivy, how can I help you?"

"You said we could meet to discus my research?" She replied, her heart him her mouth.

"Oh yes, sit down and we can discuss it." He said in a cheerful voice as he sat behind the desk.

Her heart began to race as she took a seat in the large leather armchair opposite the table. She placed the folder in the table, her palms so sweaty she wiped them on her trousers. Himerdiger leaned forward and flicked through a few pages and then closed the folder. "Look I am sorry to have to tell you this, I would give you the go ahead, your research so far seems like it has a lot of potential, but sadly the Biochemistry department, we don't have the facilities or the money to do what you want to do."

"But you are able to give funding to the engernirng department, even though what they are doing isn't even science." She blurted out, wishing she had held it back when Himerdinger gave her a look.

"It is out of my control at the moment, the issue is that we need the engerniring research to progress to get more funding for other departments and at the moment they can't progress because they need to see if it will have any medical side effects and, well you know how it is with the different schools of science rivalling and all that, they can't get anyone to help with the research."

"Ah I see."

"I have asked around the medical school for people but no one will do it." He looked at her then as if he hadn't noticed she was a scientist just like them. "Actually here is a thought, your background is in the medical side am I correct?"

"Yes, that is my background."

"Here is a thought indeed."

"What is it, is there another way I can get the funding."

"Not exactly, but say if you were to work with them, iron out the wrinkles when it comes to health, then when the time arrises I can guarantee that you will get the funding and the go ahead."

"I...I don't know, the engineering department are our rivals, we I..."

"Well if you don't there is no way I can guarantee funding or the go ahead and it could be years before they get someone to do it. But if that is your choice..."

"No...I" Her heart was racing, this was not how this was supposed to go at all, she hatted the people over there, most of them suck up, getting all the funding and equipment...but she needed this, this was her life, she had no other choice. "I will do it."

"Now thats the spirit Ivy, you can start working with them bright and early tomorrow. I will send a letter to Jayce and Viktor straight away. Its the permanent lab number nine in the west building."

Jayce and Viktor. It couldn't be them surely. The rumour was that they were working on the next big revolutionary thing that could change the world, and no one knew what it was. "Okay." Was all she said before picking up her folder and leaving.

She couldn't believe what she had gotten herself into. All she wanted to do was do her research and now what was she doing, helping two stuck up guys mess with physics. This was all so stupid. She began walking down the corridor, in a rush just wanting to get back to her dorm room so she could kick something. The hallway was so crowded, that she decided a shortcut though the courtyard would be best. She took a few turns though the gold trimmed hallways until she was at the entrance to the courtyard.

It was raining. Could noting go right in her life. There were no trees, no archways to take shelter under. Just three paths, two on the outside, one going diagonal to the other side. She figured if she kept her head covering her folder and books she could run to the other side without anything getting wet and would then be by the dorms.

She made a run for it holding the folder close to her chest. She sprinted, her head tucked close to her chest, almost completely blind in the rain until she hit a wall.

She halted her books and folder falling to the floor around her, and she looked up to see a tall man, with tan skin and molten eyes. He immediately rushed to pick up the books she had dropped before picking up his own books. "I am so sorry...I should have been looking where I was going and the rain."He stuttered slightly.

She took her folder and books off him tucking them close to her chest as she felt her cheeks heat up, they had to be bright red by now, her heart started to race again. "No it's my fault, I just wanted to be out of the rain." she also stuttered. She didn't know why she was freaking, it's not like she would see this man again.

"Your work looks very interesting." He said as he handed her a sheet that must have fallen out of her folder, a drawing of the human brain was on it.

"Oh thank you." She tucked a pice of her now wet hair behind her ear. "Umm good luck with your research."

"Thank you." He said. And just like that, they were heading in separate directions never to be seen by each other again.

She hiked up the stairs to her room, barging in thro the door and throwing her stuff on the table before diving onto her bed, and covering her face with her pillow. She couldn't believe herself. She was an idiot. This day couldn't possibly get any worse.

She looked over at her folders, and suddenly noticed that one of the books she had just thrown down was completely unfamiliar. It was not hers. Her heart sank at the thought, she would have to speak to this guy again to give it back. She said on the edge of her bed and picked up the book flicking to a random page hoping that the guys name would be in there somewhere. That was when she saw it, tucked away at the bottom of every single page was his name, Jayce Talis.

"Fuck!"
