Work Text:
Sandy had never really given the boy who dressed in all black much thought. He was just another negative boy in a sea of them. Making fun of people was fun sometimes, but it just gets boring if it's all you have to say.
Well. Maybe it made him a hypocrite considering what he was just about to say. They had happened to get a matchup in the arena today, so he supposed it wouldn't kill to make some conversation.
"Do you always paint your nails black?" Sandy questioned idly.
Edgar looked at him in a way that caused him to instincatantly wipe a hand across his face. "Yes. Is there something wrong with that?"
"No, no, it's just a bit," he smirked, tilting his head slightly. "Basic, yknow?"
"What?!" He crosses his arms and clenches his teeth. "That's not even true."
"Dude," Sandy stated. "Be for real, every time you see a guy with his nails painted, like 90 percent of the time they're painted black." He reasoned, sticking his arms out in a shrugging motion. "It's just the truth."
"Sorry not everyone dresses like they're first stop off to a pride parade." Edgar scowled.
"Oooo, someone's maddd..." Sandy smiles smugly, pointing at the other boy.
"Can you just—" the darkly dressed boy was cut off by a flurry of spinning blades being fired in his direction.
Sandy stands still, doing nothing to help the boy. "Look out." Is all he says, being rendered too late to be helpful. Three of the blades collide with his torso; although they had lost some momentum from when they were first thrown, Edgar still lets out a pained whine.
"Hey guys! Hey Nita, did you see that?!" A rather boisterous voice fills the air; he was rather loud for someone who could turn invisible. Leon and Nita approach from a nearby bush, although still far enough to be out of both of the boys range.
"Shit, what are we gonna do?" Edgar cries.
"Hmmm..." Sandy pulls out some sand from his pouch, hovering it over the other boys torso, making sure he recovers before deciding what to do.
"Are you good to jump?" Sandy asks the boy, looking up at him.
"Yeah, you gonna do anything to help me?" Edgar bites back.
"Okay rude." He drawled, putting his finger up. "And yeah, I will; just trust me." He finishes off with, "We don't have the time. The fog is coming." He pointed out, punctuating the sentence with a yawn.
"Ok, whatever..." Edgar sighed. He jumps in humanly far with the help of his scarf towards the two kids. At the same instance, Sandy summons a sandstorm, pushing forward while the two were distracted with the other boy; he finishes them off just as they were about to take him down.
"Told you I'd come through." He smiled. He offered a hand to the boy who was now sitting on the floor, in the very same bush the two siblings had just resided in. Edgar reached up to grab it, only for Sandy to come toppling down on top of him at the slightest pulling force.
"What... is wrong with you?" Edgar pulls the boy up above him with his scarf, dangling him in the air so they were facing each other.
Sandy snickered. "Sorry, my bones are made out of glass and my skin is made of paper."
The boy rolls his eyes in response, pushing him back up with his scarf, then pushing himself up afterwards.
Sandy let out a long, drawn-out sigh. "Mannn, i wanna go to bed; that was so tiring..." he scratched his neck.
"The game isn't over yet. There's still one team left." Edgar walks to the middle of the area; it was covered in a large patch of grass. He grabs onto Sandys wrist to make sure he doesn't fall asleep in the middle of nowhere. They spot a particular blonde woman patrolling outside the bush.
Presumably she hadn't seen them, as they were hidden by the generous foliage. They could just go forward and-
They both stopped. They can feel it—a presence in the bushes with them. It was a massive presence; someone was lumbering through these bushes with them. Someone very big.
Sandy puts a finger to his lips and looks at the other boy. He pulls out a very small pouch and pulls the tie on it, pouring the contents into his hand and walking forward cautiously.
He looks up to see a massive man with sharp-looking bear traps on his hands, leaping into action, he flash bangs him with his special sand, Edgar follows his lead and rips into the man, downing him quick in his confusion.
The woman stalking outside the bushes tenses, watching the sudden movements inside. She points her rifle at them, taking a quick shot; it digs itself into Sandys arm; he cries out, falling to the floor and just barely avoiding her second shot. Edgar blocks them both from her third with his scarf; the shot leaves a slight singed mark on it but doesn't seem to hurt him.
"Come on out, darlings!" Piper shouts out to them. "You can't hide forever!" They all knew this was a bluff of the highest order. It was she who would have to come to them, as they had cover to hide behind, and she had the fog closing in on her; the cards were wholey stacked against her.
She huffed, knowing it was probably over for her. With nowhere else to go, she pushes into the bush, glancing back and forth alertly.
Edgar jumps up on her, landing two punches before she whips out a pistol and nails him in the torso, knocking him back, however she didn't see Sandy beside her, sneaking up on her. He finishes her off with two arcs of sand, ending the match once and for all.
Sandy plops on the ground, huffing softly with exertion. That was enough excitement for today. The black-haired boy sits down next to him, taking out his phone and scrolling through some social media site probably.
"Good game dude" Sandy mutters. "Good.... punches n stuff." He changes to laying position, turning his face to the other teenager.
"Mhm." He hums back, not looking away from his phone. However putting it back in his pocket, he layed his chin on his knee, looking forward aimlessly.
They stayed like that for a while, as Sandy let his vision settle apon the other teenager, he couldn't help but admire his face. His icy blue orbs normally unsettled him, but they paired well with his somber half lidded eyes, he wasn't half bad when he kept his mouth shut.
Sandy closes his eyes, leaning his head on his arm, he lets himself drift off into a light slumber. An unfamiliar uplift filled his chest as he escapes to a very familiar land of dreams.
He feels a light impact against his head, grumbling as he is stirred from his sleep.
"The cleaning and repair bots say we gotta go." Edgar states.
"Mannnnn..." Sandy whines, not particularly wanting to get up. Edgar grabs him by his hood, lifting him to his feet, he stumbles forward and shakes his head like a cat shakes water out of its fur.
He grasps the time change, the sun was setting now, as opposed to its high position in the sky it had been before he fell asleep.
They both go their separate ways, he dreads the long walk home, pulling out his phone and looking to find three missed calls and some texts from his sister. Sandy sighs, quickly tapping the call back button.
She picks up almost instantly. He is met with a stagnant silence. This wasn't the first time this has happened, and it won't be the last, both of them knew it.
"Where are you." She muttered, her voice quiet, it was followed by its usual eerie echo.
"Ummm I'm at... which one is this called again." He cranes his neck in confusion. "Cavernn churn, I think."
"Alright. I'll be there in ten minutes." She hung up.
Sandy looks at his phone, huffing. "No goodbye. I see how it is..." he pouts before putting it back away.
He sits down, picking at the desert sand, picking it up and putting some in his pouch, he liked to collect all different types of sand, this type was a bit different than what he was used to, he should see if it has any special effects. He's pulled from this train of thouht as he hears a disjointing warping sound behind him, he wondered how she knew exactly where he was.
"Sup." He mutters, still picking at the sand rather than looking at her.
"Hey." She replies in kind. "Do you need me to carry you?"
"Nah." He sighs, pulling himself up. "You have your mask off." The teenager observed, looking up at her face. A rare sight indeed.
"Didn't wanna go through all the effort to put it back on." It was wrapped loosely around her neck like a scarf, lightly blowing in the soft warm breeze. "It's not like anyone is gonna see me." She gazed towards the setting sun. "Was just closing up anyways."
She pulls out a talisman, setting it on the boys shoulder and letting it dissolve, a faint blue glow surrounded him, she pulls him into a portal with a dark purple glow, and they head home.
And as Sandy sets his head on his pillow, the image of the other teenager flashes in his mind, soft half lidded eyes facing the bright sun in the sky.

He walks through starr park the very next day, spotting the gloomy teenager slowly sauntering into the giftshop. But there was something different, he lets his eyes settle apon the boys hands disappearing into the building, chuckling to himself as he catches a glimpse of lavender on his nails.
