There he was— at it again.
A smug grin was glued to his face as he leaned down closer to Shadow’s, lifting a hand and taking away the book that he was holding. It was the only way to get his undivided attention.“Hey Pookie~” Silver singsonged and pretended he didn’t notice the slightly annoyed expression coming from the other.
“Silver.” He spoke sternly. “My book.”
“What?”
“You know what. Quit messing with me.” Shadow huffed, but his obvious frustration went unnoticed. Quietly, he held his hand out; A silent threat. Silver, give me back my book or so help me…
“Listen!” Silver tried to reason, tucking the book under his arm. “When you’re hiding yourself away in that book, I can’t see your pretty face.” Shadow could only roll his eyes at that. Silver hitting on him wasn’t anything new— in fact it became an expected, every day activity.
Whenever Shadow was trying to enjoy his alone time with nothing but his book, he could always count on Silver to come and ruin it. He supposed he was just lucky that way. “I like reading. You should know how frustrating it is to be reading a good part of a story, and then have someone take it away.” Shadow kept his hand out in front of him, not backing down. His ruby eyes stared sharply into Silver.
“Trust me, I get it.” Silver waved it off and reached his hand forward to take hold of Shadow’s. “But you’re cute when you look at me like that. How can I resist?” He leaned closer so that the space between them was almost non existent. Shadow didn’t budge from his place; his hand was still held out before him. That was something Silver really loved about him… Shadow didn’t back down. When he wanted something he got it no matter what.
“Silver.” The corner of Shadow’s lips curved into a slight smirk. “My book.”
“How bout a little wager?”
“My book.” Shadow replied and tugged his hand away from Silver’s. His slight smirk was still present as he reached to grab the part of the book that was sticking out from under the other’s arm. It didn’t take much tugging to set it free, and once it was in his possession again, he turned away from Silver. “Nice try.”
Silver could only watch Shadow walk away, his slender hips swaying with each powerful stride he took. Damn… Silver would find a way to swoon him. Somehow, he would.
—
Silver was annoying.
But charmingly, so.
Shadow was sitting beside a tree in the park— his usual spot, when he took notice of that all-too familiar face coming his way. Silver’s steps were always so rough as they hit the ground. His spikes bounced as he walked toward Shadow with confidence, and he always had that stupid smile on his face. Just the sight of him made Shadow roll his eyes, but he couldn’t help the small smile that found its way to his lips.
He’s probably going to say something dumb. He’s going to call me cute or something like that.
Shadow lifted his book up, hiding his nose in it as he always did. And as if on cue, Silver called out to him—and it stirred butterflies in the pit of his stomach. “Shadow!”
“Mm?”
“Face in the book again?”
“Isn’t that what it looks like?” Shadow didn’t bother to look up from the words. He wasn’t exactly reading the pages. He knew that’d be impossible with the other sitting there beside him. But he wasn’t going to give Silver the satisfaction of having his attention right away.
“Yeah, yeah.” Silver reached over, easily slipping the book out of Shadow’s hold. He glanced over the pages for a moment before closing it up and setting it beside him. It caused a dramatic exhale to leave Shadow’s nose.
“Silver.” He stared sharply at the other hedgehog, his eyes saying everything.
“C’mon, you know I like seeing your pretty face. I think you purposely choose to read when I’m around.”
Shadow found himself studying the other more intently. His eyes were a golden yellow— and when they reflected in the sunlight, it reminded Shadow of honey… his spikes were long. And they were thick and shiny— they were probably soft, too. There was no denying Silver was handsome. “Pookie?” Suddenly, he was snapped out of his daydream. He was sure it wasn’t blatantly obvious that he was zoning out and thinking about Silver… because that’s the last thing Silver would expect.
“Hm?”
A smirk. “What’re you looking at? I hardly ever get your attention like this.” Silver leaned closer, the space between them closing in. “What…are you thinking about kissing me?” He teased.
“Yes.” The answer was so blunt, Silver had to mull over it in his head a few times before it could even be processed. His eyes grew slightly wider and a light shade of red started dusting his cheeks. How did Shadow say that with such a straight face? Wait— was he being serious?
“You—.. you said yeah??” Silver finally stuttered out. A sly smile found its way to Shadow’s lips and he lifted a hand to touch under Silver’s chin.
“I’ve only been thinking about it ever since you started flirting with me. What… was I good at hiding it?” He couldn’t help but chuckle softly at the dark blush that blatantly took over the other’s face.
“Y.. Yeah but— if you’ve been wanting to do it so badly, why haven’t you?? I thought all I did was annoy you!”
“It’s fun being courted, and you always did cute things to grab my attention. I thought it would be fun to play back. And you did annoy me, but… it was kind of cute at the same time.” Shadow said, a little embarrassed at his admission. But there was no going back. Finally, he leaned forward to lock a delicate kiss to Silver’s lips. “Happy?”
Silver nodded dumbly. He was sure his heart was about to rupture. And he thought he was the one making Shadow flustered. It was the other way around. “Now then. Silver.” Shadow moved his hands away from the others chin and held it out between them. “My book.”
“Your book… your book! Right—“ He reached beside him quickly to pick it up off the ground but then paused. He narrowed his eyes and tucked it under his arm. “You only get your book back on one condition.”
“And that is?”
“You go on a date with me.”
Shadow smirked. “I suppose you have a deal.” He shifted himself to lean his head on Silver’s shoulder, enjoying the closeness.
Silver wanted to find a way to swoon Shadow. He wanted to do something special to sweep him off his feet— and damn. Somehow he found a way. Somehow, he did.
