Work Text:
Buck looked over at his husband as they drove to Maddie’s house to drop Evie off for the day. “Are you sure we shouldn’t just bring her? She’s not going to know what we’re getting?”
“Evan, she will be fine. We’re not dropping her off at a strangers house. And I figured with one and a half clipboards full of stops and things to buy, she’s better being able to play with her cousins.”
Buck looked back and Evie through the rear facing mirror they installed on the back seat of the car. “I know, it’s just such a special time for her, I worry.”
Tommy reached over and grabbed Bucks hand. “Baby, she’s one. She won’t remember not being there while we went shopping. What’s up? You’ve not been this nervous to leave her since she was a month old.”
Buck looked at Tommy again and felt tears come to his eyes. “I think, No I know, it’s the baby. Just making me extra emotional. Sorry. I’ll be fine.” Buck sniffed and Tommy brought his hand up and kissed the back.
“Don’t apologize. You have nothing to be sorry for, baby. I just don’t remember you being this emotional with Evie.”
“I wasn’t. This pregnancy is definitely turning out to be very different.”
“What else is different? I’d like to know so I can help as much as possible.”
Buck smiled at his husband and leaned over to kiss his shoulder. “Well, my chest is so sore. Like my god, I went to dry myself off after my shower yesterday and I wanted to cry.”
“Baby, I’m sorry to hear that.”
“I am also craving some of the strangest things.” Buck laughed a little.
“Oh, like what? I’ll be sure to keep them on hand at all times.”
“Well, they can’t really be bought at a store.” Buck looked over at Tommy, a blush covering his cheeks and Tommy smiled.
“We’re finishing this conversation. As soon as I get back into this car, Evan” Tommy smiled as he got out and gathered Evie to drop her off with Maddie for the day.
Buck waived to Maddie as Tommy raced back to the car and got in.
“Now, tell me, husband, love of my life. What are these cravings?” Tommy pulled the car away and started to drive.
Buck smiled and ran his fingers over Tommy’s arm letting his hand drop and run along his thigh. “You.” Buck whispered.
Tommy moaned and quickly turned the car around and Buck laughed. “Babe, where are you going? We have a lot to do.”
“Number one on the list, give into my husband’s craving. We have time. In fact, I say I need to help keep this craving satisfied as long as it stays around.”
“Well unless you’re going to come to the fire house when either one of us is on shift, I don’t think this is one that can be satisfied when ever it hits.”
“Oh, I’ll do everything in my power to keep you well and truly satisfied, baby.” Buck smiled at his husband as they continued to make their way back home.
Tommy walked up close behind Evan as they stood and looked at the different first Christmas ornaments. He ran his hand up and down Evan’s side, kissing along his neck.
“Tommy?” Evan laughed and pushed himself back into Tommy.
“What? I’m just trying to help you choose an ornament for our daughter.”
“Yeah, sure. So which one? The firetruck or the helicopter?”
“Yeah. It’s perfect.” Tommy said letting his hands roam over Evan wherever he could reach. Coming to finally rest against where Evan was growing their child.
“You’re no help sometimes.”
Tommy chuckled and reached out and pulled an ornament off the shelf. “What about this?” Tommy said showing Evan the turn out jacket. Evan turned his head and smiled up at Tommy and kissed him on the cheek.
“I love it. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. Now, what else do we need?”
By the time they were finally done shopping, and the decorations were all up, Tommy stood backed and surveyed their living room.
“Christmas threw up in here. You don’t think maybe we went just a tad overboard?” Tommy asked looking over at Buck.
“It’s her first Christmas, babe. There is no such thing as overboard.” Buck placed his hand down on the railing to the stairs and immediately pulled it back. The tiny lights burning a little hotter than Buck expected. “Ow, yeah okay maybe a little overboard.”
“It does look very beautiful, baby. She’s going to love the lights.” Buck smiled at Tommy and went easily into his arms.
“I love you, Tommy Kinard, you know that right?”
“I do. And I love you, Evan Kinard.”
“No, just this past year has been crazy for us. And you have been there every step, never faltering. Indulging my craziness. With Evie’s first birthday, now this.” Buck threw his hand out to indicate their surroundings. “You are the best husband and father ever. And I am so lucky that I get to walk in this life with you and raise our kids with you. Evie, and this new baby are so lucky to have you as their dad.”
“Evan.” Tommy swallowed past the lump in his throat as Buck leaned in and kissed him.
“You know, we still have time before we have to get Evie.” Buick winked at Tommy and smiled.
“What if we ask them to bring her to us?”
“Oh, then we’ll have plenty of time.”
“Excellent.” Tommy started to pull Buck toward the stairs to their bedroom and Buck pulled him back and pressed their bodies together.
“Here. Just the Christmas lights.”
Tommy groaned and kissed Buck again, pulling him as close as he could.
“Deck the halls… check.” Buck said with a whisper. “Now its time to get my husband’s ba…”
“Shut up!” Tommy laughed and kissed Buck.
