Work Text:
Izuku was your typical Japanese teen. That is until he met a magical animal that told him that yes, he can be a hero. And right in time because the Dark Dust Empire was rising and only Wonder Heroes can stop them.
Through many battles Hero Deku meets new friends and allies, facing off against the generals of the malicious Dust Emperor.
It’s hard to balance his double life, but Izuku has to find the legendary One For All Crystal before the forces of evil doom the whole world. Before that he has to become Hero Deku.
.
The day started like many other days in Midoriya Izuku’s life - by oversleeping. He had to run to his high school, barely dodging people on the sidewalk and once having to jump over a bench to get to the school on time. He barely managed to enter class before the sleep deprived Aizawa-sensei, who didn't even scold him for running down the hall, just complained for half the lesson about the underrated value of proper sleep.
Izuku was just happy that Aizawa didn’t check for homework, which Izuku hadn’t finished last night. He was also thankful for his friends, Iida and Uraraka, who chatted with him during the lunch break. The school day without them would have been so dull and draining. Izuku adored his friends and was grateful for them in his life, but he also felt guilty, because he had a secret he couldn’t share with them.
You see, Izuku, despite looking and acting painfully average, was not simply a Japanese highschooler with a knack for sleeping through his alarm every morning.
Izuku gasped when he was walking out of his classroom. It wasn’t because he saw something specific, no. It was a delicate, familiar chime coming from the pocket of his uniform jacket. Casting a wary glance around at his classmates he noticed no one paid much attention to the chime or him, everyone was too focused on other things. So, he slinked away down a particular corridor to the older part of the building where old classes still awaited renovations. There, he knew, AllMight would be waiting for him.
And sure thing, there he was, the golden hare twitching his glowing ears in obvious agitation, sitting on a dust-covered desk in one of the dimly lit rooms, a somber expression on his furry face. Izuku slid the doors closed after stepping into the room, just to make sure no one could sneak up on them.
“AllMight!” Izuku whispered as he skidded to a stop next to the animal that looked bigger than a continental rabbit. Neon blue eyes looked up at him. There was kindness in his gaze, but also determination and purpose.
“Dust Emperor sent one of his underlings to harvest spirit energy again,” he said without preamble, waving a paw at the boy. “Quick, change and let’s go.”
Izuku was far too used to this type of scenario to feel startled or anything. He had a job to do - or rather Hero Deku had. And, if he would see Kaboom Mask and other Heroes. He really hoped for that, it was always better to fight with allies and this would ensure they saved as many innocent people as possible.
He was still new to all this, fighting against the evil forces of the Dust Emperor, but he thought lately he was getting better at being Hero Deku. It was so scary to face the evil generals, but it was better now, because now Deku wasn’t alone, with only AllMight’s advice to help in the battles.
Now he had allies, friends really, that had his back. There was Hero Creati who in regular life was named Momo Yayourozu. She was super smart and went to a private school for rich kids, but was so sweet and gentle. She didn’t act like stuck up people, even if sometimes she wasn’t aware of the daily issues of middle-class income teens. She was generous and easy to get along with. Izuku met her in a cram school his mom signed him for to help with his grades and which was a target of Spinner’s attack. The villain had this virus game that brainwashed people and it took the combined powers of two Heroes to deal with that threat.
The second Hero that joined Deku in the battle against evil was Red Riot. He was an energetic and positively thinking boy that sometimes needed a nudge to encourage him to overcome his self-consciousness, but he was fierce in defending others.
The inner strength of Red Riot had been a great help to Deku, who was prone to overthinking things.
Deku and Creati met up with Riot during one of the missions when Toga had been kidnapping people in a bus to drain their energies in a pocket dimension another general was opening for her.
Kaminari was also energetic, but in a more chaotic way. He was a wild card sometimes, prone to mischief, at times scared, but trying his best to be focused and reliable in the time of crisis. As Hero Chargebolt he was a balance to calculative and logical Creati. Chargebolt at first was reluctant to join the team, but in the end helped them in a battle against a particularly tricky nomu and even managed to lay a hit on Twice, electrocuting his clones before they could swarm the distracted group.
The last friend Izuku recently made was Ashidou Mina, aka Alien Queen. She was athletic and nimble, a leader that pulled people to her with her charisma, fun personality and resilience. Without her and the others Hero Deku couldn’t have saved the civilians and won against the likes of Toga, Spinner, Dabi and Twice. Alien Queen had actually sought the Hero team out and saved them all when Dabi and Twice pinned them down with a coordinated attack. Only her swiftness and skills saved the day and Deku still felt embarrassed how easily he’d been led into the trap set by the enemy, almost getting everyone killed. He wished he had the confidence and easy grace of Mina, who cheerfully waved off their gratitude and assimilated in the team seamlessly.
And, last but not least, there was Kaboom Mask. Izuku wasn’t sure if he was friend or foe, for he would often come at the last second to help the team against the evil generals, but never stayed to talk, or do anything, really. He would just sweep in, all magnificent and breathtaking in his suit and mask, explode the monster nomu of the week and glare at Deku for a moment before flying off into the distance carried by the explosions falling from his hands.
He was Izuku’s gay awakening. And Deku really, really hoped that one day they would meet in regular life and maybe, just maybe, get to know each other better.
Recently it was brought to life that Kaboom Mask was also looking for the One For All Crystal and Izuku worried that in the end they’d have to fight him for it. So far no one had a clue where the Crystal was, not even AllMight had any tips to share. All they could do was to fight the evil generals and hope they will get the artifact before the Dust Emperor. The fate of the world depended on the Crystal being given to its rightful owner, the elusive Ninth, who the Heroes were looking for as well. AllMight couldn’t shed much light on who or what the Ninth was, the golden hare able to only look deep in Izuku’s eyes when asked about the owner of the Crystal or their whereabouts. It was as if a spell was placed on him, preventing him from revealing anything.
It didn’t matter in the end, finding the Crystal, the Ninth and defending the civilians were all tasks falling on the Heroes and the team was willing to do anything to fulfill those duties. Izuku was grateful to have such amazing friends and admired their determination and skills.
Now was no time to ponder all that though. Izuku pulled out the red metal bracelet. He slipped it on his wrist and lifted his hands.
“Hero Power Make Up!” he exclaimed, pointedly not looking at the golden hare. It still felt weird to experience the change with someone watching. Rays of bright light in all hues of green and golden sprang from the device in his fingers, afterimages burning in his eyes like ethereal butterflies flapping their wings against his retinas. He closed his eyes, focusing against the mesmerizing dance of light and shadows that made the old classroom appear mysterious like a forgotten temple. He brushed his fingers over the comforting weight of the bracelet around his wrist, sensing it pulse with energy.
In a flash the bracelet built itself over his wrist and hand, encasing his hand in a glove that flashed red before changing to white, becoming more fabric-like material than metal. A second glove materialized on his other hand.
His gakuren disappeared and Izuku shifted with the magic, feeling the energy coalesce around him into the familiar feel of his suit, form-fitting, but not restricting. No longer were his hard earned muscles hidden under his usual baggy clothes. He spun and the utility belt snapped around his waist, adorned with a glittering buckle with nine stars in a spiral, each in a different color. Arm and leg braces ran down his limbs and solidified like cooling metal, able to support his punches and kicks. He swept his legs up one after another, feeling if the support items rested right and sensing when his red sneakers became red boots with steel soles. He tilted his head back when the wisps of energy wrapped around his head, his green curls bouncing before the dark green hood of his costume materialized, hiding his identity, his face obscured and only his eyes shining through the eyeholes. Two long rabbit ears fluttered around his head as he twirled, a yellow cape falling over his shoulders and clasping in the front with a snap of electricity-like power. The power swirled around him, arching off of his limbs only to return to his body like a lightning dancing all over him. It felt pleasant and warm, familiar now and no longer scary.
In a cloud of lifted and pushed away dust Hero Deku stood in front of his mentor, ready to fight evil.
“I’m ready,” Deku said. The whole transformation took just a blink of an eye, the residue energy of it still singing in his veins.
“Let’s go, my boy,” AllMight nodded and hopped off of the desk, the Hero running after him, both too fast to be glimpsed by normal humans.
