Work Text:
Mayoi stayed close to his boyfriend's side. It was a miracle that he was even able to get out, but Tatsumi had somehow worked his magic, and about an hour of convincing later Mayoi and Tatsumi were strolling through the town square.
The sun had set quite early, leaving the sky a plain black. There was nothing particular of note about it yet, which made Tatsumi’s absent-minded stare to the sky surprisingly odd.
“Tatsumi? If I may ask…What are you doing?” Mayoi asked shyly. He looked between his boyfriend and the sky, waiting about half a minute before Tatsumi snapped back to reality.
“Oh sorry, it’s nothing. You were saying.”
“I wasn’t saying anything…I-it doesn’t matter anyway…” Mayoi replied, prompting Tatsumi to sigh, but then smile.
“I was looking for the first star of the night. The star that led the three kings to Bethlehem. I assume you know the story of Nativity, yes?”
Mayoi nodded his head in return, and Tatsumi giggled cheerfully. “You wouldn’t have- .you wouldn’t have seen it anyways. There’s too much l-light pollution for that.” Mayoi then answered.
“Not if you don’t believe. If you do believe enough, you’ll see it perfectly.” Tatsumi replied. He put his hands together in prayer. “And when you see the first star, you always make a wish.”
“It’s useless for me to make a wish, it would never come true.” Mayoi responded. “It’s not like I have anything to wish for.”
Tatsumi then took Mayoi’s hand. “Nonsense. You have plenty to wish for. And it could come true, who knows.”
The two then looked up at the sky again, as the first star finally started to shine. It shone through the street and Christmas lights, and it made the duo’s eye’s twinkle in response. “Well then, what did I say?”
“W-well, maybe I can believe then. How do you…make a wish again?”
“Just close your eyes and pray.”
Mayoi did as he was told, albeit a little nervously, but as he watched Tatsumi close his own so beautifully, his nervousness calmed.
I wish I could stay with him just a bit more. As ugly and selfish and I am, I know he loves me through and through.
