Work Text:

Hinata was staying over at Kageyama’s for a bit. He was there to study, though not much could truly be done considering how bored the pair would get trying. It was also snowing outside, ruling out any chance of them practising other than mindlessly tossing the ball up into the air but not enough to hit the ceiling.

“I'm so booooored.” Hinata whined, hitting his head on the book he was holding. “Why can Japanese be so difficult?!”

“You don’t have to be here y’know. You can complain at home.” Kageyama replied, shutting his own book that he was definitely reading. Totally.

“You struggle with English! Jeez I thought you’d understand.” Hinata yelled.

“Yeah but unlike you, I've been getting better.” Kageyama said, his voice absolutely dripping with confidence and ego. He had the smile too. Hinata groaned loudly.

“Oh sure you definitely have.” he replied sarcastically. He sighed. “It’s been snowing a lot hasn’t it?”

“Yeah?” The two boys walked over to the window, noting how bad the weather had actually gotten.

“What if we can’t go to practice tomorrow?! What if we can’t play volleyball?!”

Kageyama shivered. They were one in the same with that idea. Both hated said idea. “It’ll be fine, don’t be a dumbass.”

“How is me saying that me being a dumbass?!” he said.

“It just is!”

Hinata sat back down, still bored out of his mind. “Can we watch a movie or something then?”

Kageyama looked at the other boy in the room, utterly confused at why he was acting like this. Maybe it was volleyball withdrawal. Funny how he wasn’t feeling like that either. He then got up to leave the room, and Hinata joined him. “Where are you going?”

“Out.”

“Out? To run?! Let me go too!”

“Well duh.”

The two of them dashed down the stairs, and as soon as they opened the door they regretted it. The snow had gotten so bad that walking outside was practically impossible. That didn’t deter Hinata though.

“It’s okay! We can just stomp through! No harm done!”

Kageyama shut the door. “No. We are not going out in that.” the two of them sighed.

“I guess we’re just going back to your room. You have nothing in your room though.” Hinata said. Kageyama just stared at him, offended. But he didn’t say anything else. “You do have a laptop though, we could rewatch some matches instead!”

That was actually a good idea. Obviously Kageyama wasn’t going to say that out loud, he didn’t want to accidentally make Hinata’s ego bigger. The two of them went back up, and Hinata pulled the laptop out, still energetic as ever.

And that went away really quickly. Hinata started panicking. “How am I getting home?”

Kageyama stared at him again. That was true.

“I can bike over the mountain. Or just hold my bike and walk. But it’ll be so cold. But I need to go home.”

Kageyama put his arm in front of him. “You’re not going anywhere.” he said.

“What?”

“You’ll catch a cold, or whatever that other illness was. You. aren’t. Going. Anywhere.”

“Hypothermia?” Hinata replied. He then realised everything he said. “And I can go if I want to! You can’t stop me!”

“Dumbass you’re in my house, I can stop you. I’ll just uh…” Kageyama stopped for a second. He didn’t know what to say. “I’ll just flush the key down the toilet.”

Hinata was the one who stared at him this time. Kageyama stared back.

“And anyways, I have a sleeping bag. It doesn’t matter.”

The two stared at each other again.

“I have to stay here?!”
