“Oops, right?”
“Tess…” Joel’s brow pulls down, his eyes locked to her bite, but the devastation that had started leaking through his well-crafted walls seeps away, and instead, there’s just confusion. Ellie leans around Joel so she can see better, wearing the same expression.
“Wait, it looks like…” Ellie reaches for her arm and tugs her bandage off, and before Tess can step away, she rushes forward and puts her arm up next to Tess’s neck, “Holy shit.” She breathes unbelievingly.
Joel steps forward, his eyes going from Ellie's arm to Tess’s neck. He raises a trembling hand, fingers reaching out for her. Tess flinches back, pulling away from them both, unbalanced by their behavior.
“Joel, what are you thinking?” She goes to let go of the fabric in her hand, but Joel’s hand snakes out and stops her.
“No, Tess, somethin’ ain’t right. It looks like Ellie’s bite.”
“What?” Tess rasps.
