About cats and dogs

Summary:

Seungkwan is so over his ex, with whom he had a toxic on-off relationship for a long time. After a few distractions, he is looking for a serious relationship again. Good thing Jeonghan is holding a blind date event in his cat cafe and he forces Seungkwan to take part. The date with Dokyeom goes fabulously - until Seungkwan ruins everything?

Notes:

Small note: This Oneshot is part of my The chaos in my life series (Dates with Mr. Beanie, Falling..., Whiskered...). If you're only here for Dokyeom/Seungkwan - don't read the other stories :)
Dokyeom is not Seokmin from the cat cafe series. They're just two people who happen to look the same and nobody notices ;)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Boo Seungkwan was over Jeon Wonwoo. Oh, he was so over him.

He wouldn’t tell the following lines because he still thought a lot about Wonwoo. Just so that you knew the background of why he behaved the way he did.

Wonwoo and Seungkwan had met at some point during their school days. Together with Jeonghan and Jihoon, the four of them had been a group that had never (majorly) argued and were always together.

As was often the case, Seungkwan and Wonwoo fell in love. Not immediately. It took a long time, they were both already working. But it was wonderful. It was perfect. Wonwoo, who ran a cat cafe, and Seungkwan, who now worked as a vet.

They were made for each other. Seungkwan thought so. And Wonwoo too.

Jeonghan disagreed. Really disagreed.

Unfortunately, Jeonghan was right, because they argued a lot, and looking back, Seungkwan had to admit that they had a very toxic relationship. They argued. They broke up. They got back together. And argued again. A constant cycle. He didn’t even know how long it went on like that.

Until last year. Seungkwan tried to meet new people, Wonwoo found someone new, and it seemed like they had finally managed to break away from each other.

Ha!

Wrong.

They tried again, and it failed again.

Seungkwan would like to say that it was his idea. But no, not at all. Wonwoo fell in love again and made it clear to him that that was it.

And Seungkwan’s stupid heart didn’t want to believe it. Until Wonwoo’s new boyfriend, Kim Mingyu, asked Wonwoo to end the friendship (haha) that still existed with Seungkwan.

The friendship with Jeonghan and Jihoon had suffered enough in all the on-off time that it wasn’t a big break.

And it was the best thing that could have happened to Seungkwan. He distracted himself. Because maybe he wasn’t as over Wonwoo as he wanted to believe. But he distracted himself so much.

He met a few guys (well, a few lots of guys) and even though he couldn’t imagine a relationship with them, it felt so good to be seen.

Seungkwan had his faults. He didn’t want to hide that. But Wonwoo’s mistake was that he always put the cats and the cat cafe first. Seungkwan felt neglected. Displaced. Not important at all.

So. That was the backstory.

That was a few months ago, and even though that sounded like a short time, Seungkwan had noticed that his feelings were getting less and less every time they had an off-time. Being with Wonwoo was more of a…habit.

The guys he had been seeing? Wow, Seungkwan was seen. Seen!

Seungkwan didn’t want to fool anyone. He couldn’t remember most of their names. Because, as the saying goes, to get over one guy, you had to get under the next.

No matter, they were there for just that - to get over Wonwoo and to boost Seungkwan’s self-esteem again.

He had only been really looking for the one for a few weeks.

Seungkwan was not a workaholic. He had his own veterinary practice and did a few night shifts, but he didn’t overdo it. And when he came home one day on a completely random day and it was so quiet, Seungkwan knew. It was time. He didn’t need hot guys anymore. He needed a partner. Someone who loved him.

The fact that he met up with Jeonghan again shortly afterwards and that Jeonghan raved about Wonwoo and Mingyu’s perfect (yuck) relationship didn’t help. Again - Seungkwan was over him! It was just so unfair that Wonwoo had someone new and Seungkwan didn’t. Jihoon had someone. Jeonghan was about to meet someone. Only Seungkwan was still alone.

He didn’t like to admit it, but Seungkwan agreed to Jeonghan’s stupid idea.

He had told Seungkwan about a blind date event for the cat cafe, where the couples were supposed to decorate some cake.

“Tell me, Seungkwan. What was it like before that you were desperately looking for a hot guy?”

Seungkwan looked up in alarm. When Jeonghan started like that, nothing good came of it.

“Do me a favor, yes? He’s cute. Crazy about dogs. And comes to the event and doesn’t have a partner anymore?” Jeonghan looked at him pleadingly.

But Seungkwan shook his head. “Are you crazy? I’m supposed to go from a cat freak to a dog lover? Never.”

“But he only likes dogs! He doesn’t have any of his own. And I don’t think he owns a dog cafe either. Please. Just this once? Do it for me?” Jeonghan tilted his head. “What bad thing could happen? That I’m right and you fall in love and finally be happy?”

Seungkwan sighed. He was lonely. And longed for a relationship. And Jeonghan always had a knack for getting him to do things that Seungkwan didn’t want to do.

“I can’t do something like that in front of Wonwoo. That...that’s not right?”

A blind date in front of his ex? That would be a disaster!

“I’m sending Wonwoo to the kitchen that day. Or I’ll ban him from the cat cafe. Say yes, okay?”

And yes, Seungkwan said yes. More out of love for Jeonghan than the hope that this Dokyeom was really for him.

And now here he was, a few days later, in the cat cafe. All dressed up for his blind date and nervous as hell.

Was Seungkwan still thinking that nothing would happen between him and Dokyeom? Maybe.

Had he changed clothes three times, anyway? Yep.

Was he happy with it? Not necessarily.

But it was too late. Seungkwan was standing in his white sweater (yes, he realized too late that a white sweater wasn’t ideal for decorating cakes) and black pants. Nothing special. But he felt good, okay? And that was what mattered.

He was the first of the “guests” to enter for the event. That gave him the opportunity to talk to Jeonghan and Jihoon (as Jeonghan had promised, Wonwoo was nowhere to be seen). And that made everything even worse.

“I can’t believe you got me to join in here,” he greeted the two. And as soon as he saw Jeonghan, he lost all desire for a blind date. He had a huge hickey on his neck. It looked almost bad.

“Who attacked you?”

“I hope you look like that tomorrow,” Jeonghan replied as they hugged in greeting.

Seungkwan wanted a date. He didn’t want a one-night stand. Maybe he was too old-fashioned not to want to go to bed with someone on the first or second date. He wanted to get to know the person he was with.

“No thanks!” he snorted.

Seungkwan hugged Jihoon too and he looked... different. He turned him once, which Jihoon just let happen. And he also noticed a hickey on Jihoon’s neck. Great.

“Is everyone here happily in love? That’s disgusting.” Jeonghan put a finger to his lips and Seungkwan dropped the subject.

But the two of them, with their proof that they were in happy relationships, wouldn’t help to lighten the atmosphere.

“Don’t worry, you’ll get your turn too. After today, you’ll be madly in love with Dokyeom.”

As if that would be the case after one date.

“I doubt it.”

Yes, it wasn’t the best conditions to meet a potential partner.

The cat cafe filled up and Seungkwan made polite conversation with people he didn’t know and might never see again. He had no idea which of these people was Dokyeom.

“Welcome to our cat cafe. With no cats today for now. But if you want to get to know them, feel free to stay afterwards. Maybe for a second date?” Jeonghan winked and got laughs (of course). Jeonghan would probably never have any problems winning people over. “I’ll tell you your tables in a moment and you can get started. Jihoon here will also show you different techniques and is your contact person when it comes to decoration. If you have any other problems, feel free to contact me. Any other questions?”

Seungkwan looked around the room. Like everyone else, which is why he immediately turned back to Jeonghan. All that was missing was him “flirting” with someone else when Dokyeom was somewhere in the room.

“Okay, let’s get started.”

Jeonghan got a list and called out names. And Seungkwan watched as more and more couples went to a table. “Seungkwan and Dokyeom,” Jeonghan finally called. Seungkwan got nervous. But it wasn’t a big deal. It was a blind date. Nothing more.

Seungkwan didn’t pay any attention to anyone and only looked up when he was at his table.

“Hey,” a really gorgeous looking guy greeted him. He was taller than Seungkwan (about the same height as Wonwoo?) Dokyeom had light brown hair with dark, kind eyes. Glasses (like Wonwoo - shit). He wore a navy blue shirt (his favorite color) and dark jeans. He looked really good. Seungkwan felt a little-

“You look pretty. I’m Dokyeom,” his counterpart introduced himself, and his smile was magical. But Seungkwan had had enough hot guys lately and that meant nothing.

“Hi, I’m Seungkwan,” he also introduced himself.

“If you can tear yourselves away from each other, Jihoon will introduce you to the techniques.”

“Let’s go, okay?”

Seungkwan could hardly concentrate on Jihoon’s explanations. Dokyeom stood half behind him so that the others had space and Seungkwan himself didn’t know why he was so nervous.

“The technique looks nice, doesn’t it?” Dokyeom said quietly.

Seungkwan nodded but hadn’t really listened to Jihoon.

He could already hear others whispering quietly to each other and asking questions, and Seungkwan wondered if they should get started too.

“These are the techniques. If you have any problems or need help, let me know,” Jihoon said, and he smiled shyly. It brought Seungkwan back down to earth.

“It’s a bit hard to decide what you want to do with a stranger in such a short time, isn’t it?” Dokyeom asked with a smile. They were back at their table and standing in front of their cake. In the shape of a paw.

“Well. We can use the opportunity to get to know each other. It doesn’t have to be perfect. I thought the sprinkles on the side were good.” Seungkwan wasn’t a shy boy going on his first date. He had been on dates. And he didn’t really expect anything from this one.

“You’re right. We could just split it in two. You make one side for me and I make one side for you?” Dokyeom offered. The broad smile never left his face, and he seemed nice.

“Yes, that sounds good,” Seungkwan agreed.

That way they would be able to avoid an argument.

“Tell me something about yourself. What do you do?”

Dokyeom took the bag with the buttercream. “My name is Dokyeom, I’m 33 years old and I work as a kindergarten teacher.”

Dokyeom looked like he was good with children. He was already working alongside him on the cake and yet Seungkwan felt seen because Dokyeom kept looking at him when he spoke.

“I’m Seungkwan,” he introduced himself. “32 years old and I’m a veterinarian.”

That made Dokyeom stop. He straightened up and looked at Seungkwan with a twinkle in his eyes. “A Veterinarian? Really?”

Oh no. Now the question would come if he owned dogs. And Dokyeom would rave about dogs and tell him how many poor street dogs there are and that they deserve better and that he would like to have his own dogs and so on.

He tried to keep the smile on his face and nodded. But then he took the cream and started with his side of the cake.

“I imagine that this is difficult. I might be too emotional. But every time children start school, I feel a little...sad? And it’s only natural that they leave us and move on. When patients leave you, they don’t go for a good reason, right? You must be emotionally strong.”

What?

Seungkwan looked up.

And Dokyeom looked at him so sincerely, as if he really wasn’t making fun of him.

So there was another way, right?

“I...I don’t think I am.”

They asked each other the usual questions. Family, dreams, plans, etc. All the things you ask on a date. And yes, it went well.

“What was your dream job as a child? Did you always want to be a vet?” asked Dokyeom. He was still busy with his half of the cake. Seungkwan too. Although he was only putting some decorations on it to keep himself busy.

“No. That only came when I met Wonwoo and the others. Wonwoo always talked way too much about cats and it was...inspiring. I thought back then that you could make a difference. I don’t know what I wanted to be,” he said, lost in thought.

“Wonwoo? Is that one of your friends?”

Shit.

“Um, no.” Seungkwan stopped. He didn’t want to talk about Wonwoo. It was...you didn’t start talking about your ex-partner on the first date. And Wonwoo wasn’t important anymore either? But he only made it weirder the longer he waited. “My ex-boyfriend.”

Dokyeom didn’t seem to be thrown off by the statement. But probably very few people were in a long-term toxic on-off relationship with their ex-boyfriend.

And then there was a sudden commotion and when Seungkwan looked up, Mingyu was standing in the room. And he froze.

Okay, he had only asked Jeonghan to keep Wonwoo away today. But Seungkwan had actually meant to include Mingyu in the request.

He saw Mingyu look at him and go into the kitchen of the cat cafe.

And it threw Seungkwan completely off track.

He felt like he had to prove himself. Be someone or something he wasn’t at all. As if he had to get together with Dokyeom. Because Wonwoo was already over him.

The atmosphere died. Seungkwan got in a bad mood.

Every question turned out to be about Wonwoo and he really didn’t want to. But when Seungkwan hesitated or even lied, Dokyeom seemed to know exactly what he was getting at or who he was thinking of. It was so frustrating!

“Would you rather be reborn as a dog or a cat?” Dokyeom asked while he was still decorating the cake.

“Neither. I see all too clearly that very few people take proper care of their animals.” He had given up decorating his side and watched Dokyeom as he carefully and lovingly decorated the cake.

Because of his unfriendly tone (it made Seungkwan himself uncomfortable), Dokyeom looked up. He noticed how Seungkwan was just standing there and not doing anything.

His smile faded a little. “Sorry. I’m taking too long, huh? I’ll be finished soon.”

Seungkwan could cry. He gave up on somehow turning the conversation around.

When Dokyeom was finally finished, they sat down at one of the tables in the cat cafe. Seungkwan noticed that they were one of the last “couples” to finish.

“Sorry,” Dokyeom apologized again. “I sometimes overdo it a bit. I-“

“No, it’s okay. You did well,” Seungkwan tried to say in a conciliatory way. His side looked so much better than Seungkwan’s.

But when he looked at Dokyeom, Seungkwan noticed his smile disappearing.

Great.

“Hi, can I get you something to drink? Oh.”

Everything went wrong.

As if someone didn’t want Seungkwan to be happy.

Because Wonwoo of all people was standing in front of their table. With his stupid cat ears that he was wearing because of a stupid bet.

“What are you doing here?” Seungkwan snapped at him. And regretted it the next moment. But it didn’t matter, did it?

He had already ruined his date with Dokyeom.

“Sorry. A coffee please, Wonwoo.”

He didn’t look at Dokyeom but pulled the plate with his piece of cake towards him and started eating.

“That’s your ex?”

“Yes. I actually asked him not to work today. But Jeonghan didn’t seem to grant my request.”

“You talk about him quite a lot,” Dokyeom remarked coolly.

And Seungkwan looked up for the first time. He missed the friendly smile on Dokyeom’s face.

“I-“

“Here’s your order. Let me know if you need anything else.” Again, it was Wonwoo who interrupted them.

Seriously?

“I’m over him, okay?” Seungkwan tried to clarify as soon as Wonwoo had disappeared.

“Are you sure? You talked about him a lot today. I suspected that he was working here. But I thought it was the tall man who went into the kitchen earlier. You got in such a bad mood afterward.”

Bad mood? He hadn’t gotten in a bad mood! The bad mood came from talking to Dokyeom.

“No, that’s his new boyfriend.”

Good. He heard it himself. Seungkwan closed his eyes.

“Okay.” Dokyeom sighed.

And that was their conversation.

When Jeonghan came to them, Seungkwan looked up at him unhappily.

“Is everything alright with you?”

“Yes, everything’s fine. Do I have to pay anything else for the drinks?” asked Dokyeom. Seungkwan looked at him and noticed Dokyeom standing up.

“No, it’s all included in the price. Come visit us again sometime.”

Dokyeom nodded with a very forced smile. He said goodbye and left.

Jeonghan took his seat. He looked at Seungkwan as if it was his fault. And maybe it was.

“What did you do? You can’t mess up my quota!”

Seungkwan leaned back and let out the sigh that was weighing on his soul. “Maybe I talked about my ex a little too often?” If he thought about their conversation, it wasn’t just his fault! “Not on purpose. I also told him I was over him...but...” He stopped. There was no point in making up an excuse.

Seungkwan had failed.

Love just wouldn’t find him.

Days passed. Weeks. And nothing changed in his life. He went to work. Helped the cat cafe more often. And he was really over Wonwoo!

Seungkwan had one or two “dates”. One ended faster than the other. And both times it ended in bed and he didn’t want that anymore.

It wasn’t perfect, but his life moved forward.

Seungkwan was at the pet store to buy some treats to give to his patients when he saw him. Dokyeom. With a dog on a leash. He was talking to Heejin (a saleswoman who worked here and who Seungkwan got along well with) when Seungkwan wanted to turn into that hallway. He really didn’t need this right now. Just a moment ago, someone had canceled on him for a date. A real date.

Seungkwan was about to turn around when Heejin saw him.

“Ah, Seungkwan. How nice of you to come over. We could use your help.”

No.

Why? Why him? Why now?

Dokyeom had also turned around and seen him. He could no longer escape.

“Hi,” Seungkwan greeted them both kindly. “How can I help?”

“Dokyeom here found a dog running loose outside. Can you take them both with you and read the chip? Otherwise the poor thing will have to go to the animal shelter.”

Oh. It wasn’t his dog.

Seungkwan looked at him in surprise.

“That would be nice of you,” said Dokyeom. He smiled that friendly, broad smile again.

Was Seungkwan so desperate and longing for love that this horror date was still haunting him?

“Um.” He looked at the dog, who looked up at him, wagging his tail. “Sure, why not? Do you have a minute? I was just about to go buy some treats.”

The dog, a small, light brown mixed breed, wagged his tail. He seemed to know the word treat. “Shall we get one for you?” Seungkwan asked him in a sweet voice.

“Sure. I’ll help you carry it.”

It was...weird. How they walked through the aisles of the pet shop. Heejin brought them a basket and Seungkwan put the treats in it. It was almost like a little crazy date.

“Would you rather be able to understand the thoughts of animals or babies?” asked Seungkwan, trying to lighten the mood of the date. They had asked each other this and that question in the cafe. Before almost every answer came down to Wonwoo.

“I think the one from animals,” Dokyeom answered after a while. They were at the cat treats and Seungkwan was looking at the new varieties to see if he could feed them to his patients without any concerns. “I think babies can’t form proper thoughts yet?”

“Really?” asked Seungkwan, amused. “Maybe it’s the same with animals. And do you really want to hear the thoughts of thousands of insects?”

“Oh. You’re right. There are fewer babies in the world than animals. Unless I can block out the thoughts. And only understand them specifically.”

When there weren’t topics that somehow led to Wonwoo, things were going well between them.

This one question didn’t leave them alone. Not when they went to the cash register or when Dokyeom helped him bring the bags to his practice.

“Wow, that’s your practice?” asked Dokyeom in amazement as they came in. The little dog at his side seemed to be looking around cautiously. Yes, many animals didn’t like the smell of a practice. But Seungkwan couldn’t do anything about it.

“Yes. I haven’t had my own for very long. Before that I had a partner, but we had too different opinions and I wanted something completely my own.” He put the bags down at the reception. “Come with me and we’ll see where the little one lives.”

Dokyeom followed him. “But that’s amazing. You’re only 32 and you already have something of your own.”

“Oh, come on,” Seungkwan denied. He was a little embarrassed. It was nothing special.

They went into a treatment room and Seungkwan took out the scanner. “Can you lift him onto the table?”

Dokyeom nodded and carefully lifted the dog up.

“I thought you might have gotten a dog,” Seungkwan admitted as he looked at them. Dokyeom stroked the dog and tried to reassure him.

“Me? No. I don’t have enough time for a dog.”

“It’s good that you admit that. Many people don’t do that.” Seungkwan stroked the dog and gave him one of the treats he still had. “It doesn’t hurt at all, okay?” He scanned the chip.

“And now?”

“We just have to enter the number and hope that they have registered the dog too.” Seungkwan tidied up the scanner and went to his laptop to do exactly what he had just said.

“We’re lucky. Our little friend is registered. Her name is Ari.”

“Oh, did you hear that, Ari?” Dokyeom called out excitedly. “And do we have her address?”

It was nice to see how happy Dokyeom was.

“Yes, we do. It’s very close by. She probably ran away just before or after the walk. Should we take her home?”

Dokyeom looked at him. And he smiled. “Gladly.”

Dokyeom put Ari back on the leash and, after Seungkwan had got everything ready, they went to Ari’s house.

“Would you dance in the rain or be kissed in the rain?”

Um, what?

Seungkwan was glad that it was already getting darker. Luckily, it wasn’t raining, otherwise he would have had some wrong thoughts.

“With the right person, both are nice.” He couldn’t stop his voice from sounding wistful. Oh, he messed everything up again.

“You’re right. First one and then the other,” Dokyeom agreed. But the conversation ended again.

Ari’s owners were happy to get her back.

Seungkwan blurted goodbye to him and wanted to leave, but Dokyeom grabbed his hand and stopped him. “Wait.”

“What is it?” Seungkwan asked a bit snippily. Damn, as much as the beginning was nice, they weren’t suited to each other.

“I’m sorry. I was unfair to you.”

What?

Seungkwan turned around again and looked at Dokyeom in surprise.

“You had no choice to tell me about your ex with the questions or topics we had.”

“I...”

“I just wanted to tell you that. In case you’re blaming yourself or anything. It was a nice day. Today too. Thank you, Seungkwan.”

“Oh, um...thank you?”

Seungkwan felt weird. Really weird. He had to get out of here. “Um, I...I have to go. I have another appointment and um, yes.”

“Oh, okay.”

“Bye”

Yes, in hindsight he realized his mistake. Seungkwan was simply no longer made for love. Dokyeom wanted to ask him out on a real date, right?

Well, that’s how you ruin two dates with one person.

Seungkwan had to wait exactly 8 days before he saw Dokyeom again. With a Sapsali. Where did he get this dog from?

“Hi. Garam here needs his annual vaccinations.”

Didn’t he say last week that he didn’t want to get his own dog?

Seungkwan stared at him thoughtfully. At Dokyeom. Not Garam.

“Okay. Do you have his vaccination card with you?”

“Sure.” Dokyeom smiled and handed him the card.

Seungkwan really didn’t know what to think of it.

Was Dokyeom doing that to be close to Seungkwan? He was nice. Sweet. And stunningly good-looking. But both dates fell through at some point.

He prepared the syringes and didn’t say another word. Seungkwan could be stubborn when he wanted to. And whatever this was, he didn’t like it.

“Chocolate or roses?” Dokyeom asked, and Seungkwan heard his smile in his voice.

“What?” He didn’t turn around and drew up the last syringe.

“Would you rather receive chocolate or roses?”

WHAT?

Was he...hitting on Seungkwan?

Seungkwan took Garam and stroked him. “I’m working,” he stated soberly, and gave Garam his vaccinations.

“Oh okay. Sorry.”

There. Seungkwan had done it a third time.

He wrote the vaccinations in Garam’s passport and said a quick goodbye to Dokyeom. Whatever.

The fourth time he saw Dokyeom was after only 6 days. With a poodle named Daeho. What the hell was he doing?

“What are you doing here?”

“Hi. Daeho here has thrown up several times. Can you check on him?”

Seungkwan stared at him and waited for a proper answer.

But Dokyeom just looked at him with a smile and stroked Daeho.

“Okay,” sighed Seungkwan and began his examination.

“Would you rather be underdressed or overdressed?”

Was that...he didn’t give up? Dokyeom flattered him. Oh, it really flattered Seungkwan a lot. If only it weren’t for that bad feeling he had.

“Overdressed. Looking better than the others is always an advantage.”

Dokyeom laughed and nodded. “That’s true.”

Maybe...Seungkwan should let himself be courted?

“And roses,” he added in a more conciliatory tone.

Dokyeom’s smile grew even wider, and he nodded. “Roses, yes? Good choice.”

After three days, Dokyeom came with Yumi, a Jindo dog who turned out to be pregnant.

“Partner tattoos or partner piercings?”

“Tattoos would be better. Piercings are difficult when operating. Or in kindergarten.”

2 days later, Seungkwan was visited by Dokyeom and Jiah, an old terrier lady. She was hit by a car and Seungkwan chased Dokyeom out of the treatment room and operated on her. He didn’t expect Dokyeom to wait the whole time. How many dogs was that? Where did he get the dogs from?

Seungkwan paused. Jiah was stitched up, and her leg was in a cast. She just had to wake up and she could go home – wherever that might be.

But now he knew what he didn’t like. The dogs. The many different dogs. Dokyeom, who claimed he didn’t have one and didn’t have time for one. Did he hurt the dogs??

Oh, Seungkwan would get him in trouble. He couldn’t hurt animals because he wanted to woo Seungkwan.

Seungkwan had his assistant bring Dokyeom back in.

“Where did you get the dogs? Tell me the truth.” He tried to sound as mean as possible.

But Dokyeom...he...smiled sheepishly?

“Ah, that. Um. When I visited you with Ari...I thought that would be a good way to get close to you? I really enjoyed our date. But you kept your distance, and I didn’t know if it was because of our first date. So I put out an ad that I was taking dogs to the vet. You wouldn’t believe how many people want to take advantage of that. Many don’t have time to go during opening hours.”

Oh.

Oh.

That was...the most romantic thing Seungkwan had heard.

“When we were here with Ari, you looked really relaxed. At the cat cafe, you were kind of tense? Well, that was probably because of your ex and-“

“Would you kiss someone on the first or third date?” Seungkwan interrupted.

He had...well, they were at the beginning. But this...this right now...this was perfect. Dokyeom made an effort. He made an effort because of him. Because of Seungkwan!

Damn. And he didn’t let Seungkwan’s harsh manner put him off.

“Ah, I think it depends on the person?” Dokyeom answered, slightly shyly.

“Okay.” Seungkwan got brave. “Then let’s find out. Go out with me, Dokyeom? Nowhere where there are animals. Or any ex-boyfriends. That would be our first proper date and actually our third. The answer doesn’t matter anymore.”

Dokyeom beamed. And Seungkwan noticed with satisfaction that something was fluttering in his stomach.

Fate had not given up on him! Thank you. Oh, he was so grateful.

Seungkwan would find happiness in love.

“Gladly.”

Dokyeom said goodbye with Jiah. The next time they saw each other, for their 1st and 3rd date, was only 2 days later.

And yes, it ended with a kiss. And luckily not in bed. Just a single, almost shy goodbye kiss.

And it was so perfect.
