Work Text:

“Do you want to spend Christmas at my place?”

Miyano closes the manga he is reading and looks down at Sasaki, who is now looking straight at him from his lap without anything blocking the view. To Miyano's amusement, his boyfriend has the book he has been busy with until now sprawled over the lower part of his face to hide his mouth.

“Your family won’t mind?”

Miyano has been over countless times, but never on a holiday. They have been talking about what to do on the 25th a few times, but despite the date only being a few days away, they haven’t made any concrete plans yet. At least that’s what Miyano had assumed. To his surprise, Sasaki averts his eyes as he answers.

“It would be only us. My parents are invited to a get-together and my sister will be with her boyfriend.”

Alone. On Christmas. At Sasaki’s house.

Miyano feels the heat in his cheeks, hurries to use the manga to cover his face. If Sasaki can block his, so can Miyano.

“Y-you don’t want to go out somewhere?”

He feels Sasaki shifting but doesn’t dare to peek past the corners of the book he is holding. It doesn’t help that it is a Christmas story. Damn holiday specials.

“I just want to spend the day with you, Myaa-chan. I don’t care where we are.”

Somehow, hearing this makes Miyano’s face heat up even more than thinking of them being all alone at Sasaki’s place, making him hold on tightly to the manga in his hands. Sometimes Miyano hates just how flustered he still gets. Unlike the previous year, they are a couple now, have been for almost a year too seeing their anniversary is less than a week after the new year. He should be a bit more confident by now, shouldn’t he?

“Myaa-chan,” Gentle hands place themself on Miyano’s, now grasping the manga way too hard, and slowly lower them. “...it’s ok, you don’t have to. We can just go out, too.”

There is no judgment or disappointment in Sasaki’s voice or eyes, only the warm affection that always makes Miyano’s heart beat faster.

“I-I want to...” Miyano says after a short pause to collect himself. “...if you don’t mind having me over.”

Sasaki’s eyes light up as he pulls one of Miyano’s hands away from the book and to his lips, placing a soft kiss on his fingers. When he talks, Miyano can feel his boyfriend’s lips move against his skin.

“Always.” Sasaki chuckles softly. “At least this year I don’t have to pretend it’s not a date.”

Miyano swallows dryly, puts the book aside for good as he starts running his free hand through Sasaki’s hair. “Would you have wanted it to be? A date I mean.”

Sasaki closes his eyes at the touch and lets out a soft, content sound. “Of course...”

“You wouldn’t have...worried a-about us breaking up if he had gotten together right before Christmas?" Miyano can’t help remembering the superstition that led him to postpone his answer by another couple of weeks. “I... I heard about that once...”

Sasaki smiles against his finger, voice light and teasing.

“Why? Did you actually want to confess before Christmas, then?”

Miyano opens his mouth without any sound coming out. He had been so afraid of hurting Sasaki, of giving him the impression he didn’t really want to be with him. In retrospect, it feels like such a silly reason. They hadn’t even been together, and Miyano had already been afraid of breaking up. No matter how much Miyano wants to talk, though, he doesn’t seem to be able to.

This time, when he stays quiet, Miyano sees his boyfriend shift, sees Sasaki get up from his lap, and reach out with both hands to cup Miyano’s face. “Did you, Yoshikazu?”

Miyano nods and resists the urge to close his eyes to avoid looking at his boyfriend. If he is disappointed, Miyano has to accept that seeing that it was his fault for letting a silly superstition get to him so much. He’ll find some way to make it up to him. Instead of disappointment, though, Miyano watches a smile tug on Sasaki’s lips; sees a wave of affection wash over his face.

“You worried about it that much?”

Miyano nods again and feels his stomach flip when his mind is filled with only three words.

“Of course,” Miyano hurries to say when his voice finally obeys him again. “I always worry. I love you.”

Sasaki looks at him silently, starts running circles on his cheeks before closing the distance and gently pressing his lips on Miyano’s. More than words, Miyano knows that Sasaki shows his affection like this - by feelings safe enough to give in to the small wants he has. Wants that Miyano is just too happy to grant.

“Will you give all of them to me as well, Shuumei-san?” Miyano mumbles against Sasaki’s lips when they stop to catch their breath. “All the Christmases to come? Even if we started a year late?”

Sasaki chuckles softly, making Miyano wonder if he only imagines the small choking sound coming from his throat.

“They’re already yours.”
