Christmas 2024
Wooyoung knew how much his Sannie loved cats. And he had to admit that he shared that fascination. In the two years they'd shared their flat, their life had been a perfect mix of tenderness and laughter, and Wooyoung knew that this year he had the perfect gift in his hands.
The bell rang softly as he entered the local refuge. The place wasn't just a pet shop, but a haven for abandoned animals, where each cage held a story begging for a happy ending. He took a deep breath, feeling his heart lighten.
When his eyes met the little Siamese, he knew. A tiny ball of cream fur with chocolate ears and tail, and eyes so pure blue they seemed to contain pieces of winter sky. When Wooyoung put a finger through the bars, the kitten meowed softly, resting its tiny paw against his hand as if it already recognised him.
It was love at first sight.
After sorting out the details with the employee, he left the shelter, his heart swelling with pride. He was going to pick up ‘Byeol’ - the name he had already chosen for her - on 24 December, just before they exchanged presents. San wouldn't be expecting it. Wooyoung knew that he was going to give his lover the best present he had ever received. Well... after himself. Because, let's face it, having Wooyoung in his life was already a priceless gift.
When he pushed open the door of their flat, he was greeted by the sweet smell of hot chocolate and biscuits. The Christmas tree lights were flickering softly in the corner of the living room, and San, wrapped in a blanket, was slumped on the sofa with his mug in his hand.
"You've got a smile I don't trust, baby," San said, arching an eyebrow and smirking.
Wooyoung burst out laughing and put down his bag, approaching the sofa with a light step. He leaned over and planted a soft kiss on San's lips.
"Why did you do it? I haven't done anything... yet," he murmured mischievously.
San frowned slightly, trying to guess what Wooyoung was up to, but he didn't have time to protest as Wooyoung followed up with a series of small kisses on his nose, his cheeks and finally his forehead.
"You're too mysterious," grumbled San, even though his cheeks had taken on a slightly pinkish hue.
Wooyoung sat down beside him and put his arms around him.
"It's Christmas, isn't it? Trust me, Sannie. I just want it to be perfect."
San sighed softly, resting his head against his chest.
"With you, it's always perfect."
A tender smile lit up Wooyoung's face. He didn't reply, but gently stroked San's hair, savouring this moment of calm and intimacy. The little Siamese was still waiting a few days in the shelter, but Wooyoung knew that he already had a spark of happiness in his hands, ready to light up their lives.
24 December 2024 - Late afternoon
San hadn't returned from work yet, and Wooyoung took the opportunity to savour a few precious moments with Byeol in his arms. The little Siamese purred softly, her tiny paws kneading Wooyoung's woollen jumper.
"I'll have to hide you afterwards, my little Byoelie," he murmured, placing a shower of kisses on the top of her little head.
She was so small that he was almost afraid of hurting her by holding her, but the trust she already seemed to place in him made him melt. As he gently stroked her back, Byeol meowed and carefully began to climb onto his shoulder.
"Not so fast!" Wooyoung laughed softly, catching the little adventurer before she lost her balance.
He held her against his chest, his delighted smile mixed with a hint of apprehension. This kitten was a ball of energy, and he hoped San would be ready for such cuteness.
The sound of the lock made Wooyoung jump instantly. He rushed to place Byeol in the black pet shop bag, covering her with a soft blanket to keep her calm. He pushed the bag under the coffee table just in time.
San entered, his features lit up by a gentle smile.
"Hey, baby," he said, putting down his bag and taking off his coat.
"Hey, you," replied Wooyoung, straightening up with an innocent smile, as if nothing had happened.
San moved closer and put his arms around his waist, placing a quick kiss on his lips.
"You smell good," he remarked, burying his nose briefly against his neck.
Wooyoung laughed softly, a little nervously.
"I've made you some tea, you must be freezing, eh?"
San raised an eyebrow, amused.
"Hm, you're cute... but you're hiding something, aren't you?"
Wooyoung feigned indignation, putting a hand on his chest as if he were hurt.
"Me? Hiding something? Never!"
San squinted slightly, his gaze scanning the flat.
"Yeah, it's suspicious," he said, moving towards the sofa.
Wooyoung felt his heart skip a beat, but he kept on smiling.
"Come on, let's get you warmed up. I'll make you a cup, and you can settle in while I finish... some things."
San shrugged his shoulders, clearly unconcerned, and dropped onto the sofa. Meanwhile, under the coffee table, Byeol remained strangely calm, as if she understood that it wasn't time yet. Wooyoung glanced quickly at the bag, reassuring himself. Only a few seconds to go before the surprise was revealed... But an unexpected noise beat him to it.
A distinct meowing sound came from San's office. Wooyoung stiffened and stared at his boyfriend, who seemed as surprised as he was.
"What was that?" asked Wooyoung, confused.
San frowned slightly, before straightening up with a nervous smile.
"Er... nothing?"
Wooyoung squinted, clearly doubtful.
"Are you sure?"
San laughed, caught in the act.
"Well, OK. My surprise turned up a bit earlier than expected. Hang on a sec."
He got up quickly and headed for his office, while Wooyoung, puzzled, stayed by the sofa. A few seconds later, San returned with a black kitten in his arms, its green eyes shining and a shy little meow.
"This is Kuromi," said San, his cheeks flushed with emotion.
Wooyoung was speechless before bursting out laughing.
"You can't be serious?"
San raised an eyebrow, puzzled.
"Why not?"
Wooyoung pointed to the coffee table, still laughing.
"Look at your feet."
San bent down and found the black bag moving slightly. He grabbed it and unzipped it slowly, letting Byeol out, meowing softly, before climbing onto his thighs.
San stared at the Siamese kitten in disbelief before looking up at Wooyoung.
"Are you joking?"
"Merry Christmas Kitty," Wooyoung replied, laughing softly, his eyes shining.
San hugged Byeol tightly, a dazzling smile lighting up his face, while Wooyoung took Kuromi in his hands to stroke her stubborn little head.
"Ohhh, she's adorable," said San, looking at Byeol cuddled up in his arms. "Can you believe it? We had exactly the same idea."
They sat down on the sofa, each holding a kitten in their arms. Byeol and Kuromi sniffed shyly at each other. Byeol, as gentle and calm as San, watched her new friend with touching caution, while Kuromi, like Wooyoung, was more playful and headstrong. She reached out a little paw to pat Byeol's head, trying to get his attention.
"Easy, Kuromi, easy!" said Wooyoung, scratching the black kitten's head with an amused smile.
San laughed as he watched the two kittens discover each other, one reserved and the other adventurous. Byeol stayed close to San's protective arms before timidly approaching Kuromi, who happily ran over to sniff her even more.
"They're so cute..." murmured San, his eyes filled with affection. "Thank you, Woo."
He looked up to meet his boyfriend's gaze, his smile turning into a tender expression.
"Thank you too," replied Wooyoung, his cheeks turning slightly pink.
San put Byeol down on the sofa so that he could take Wooyoung's face in his hands.
"You make everything perfect," San added, moved.
Wooyoung closed his eyes and smiled, feeling San's lips press gently against his in a tender kiss.
"I love you," San whispered, pulling back just enough to whisper the words, his thumbs caressing Wooyoung's cheeks.
Wooyoung felt his heart leap and whispered back, his hands sliding over San's wrists:
"I love you even more."
San laughed softly, shaking his head.
"It couldn't be."
They stayed like that for a while, their foreheads pressed together, surrounded by the curious little meows of Byeol and Kuromi. The two kittens ended up snuggling up together, exhausted by their exploration.
"Look at them," Wooyoung murmured with a smile. "They're already inseparable."
"Like us," replied San with a wink, drawing Wooyoung in for another kiss.
And as Christmas night slowly settled in, their flat became a cocoon of warmth and tenderness, filled with laughter, love and the two little fur balls that completed their family.
Morning, 25 December 2025 (1 year later)
San's arms are the most comfortable Wooyoung knows. His head rested on his boyfriend's muscular arm, resting against his hard chest, listening to the soothing melody of his breathing and gently beating heart. There was no better Christmas morning than this one, wrapped in the warmth of San and their bed.
Suddenly, a little ball of fur slid gently between them, creeping into the narrow space. San was still sound asleep, his steady breath caressing Wooyoung's hair, so Wooyoung gently picked up the little creature.
In the darkness of the room, he couldn't tell whether he was holding Byeol or Kuromi, but it didn't matter. He brought her close to his face, playing gently with her little paws and placing a shower of kisses on her muzzle.
"Do you want a cuddle this morning too?" he whispered tenderly, a smile stretching his lips.
The little ball of fur let out a high-pitched mewl, its energy already wide awake. Unfortunately, this little cry sounded close enough to San to reach his sensitive ears.
"Mmh... what's meowing..." mumbled San, his voice hoarse with sleep.
Wooyoung laughed softly, holding the kitten close as he watched San slowly open his eyes.
"Sorry, she was too cute for me to resist," said Wooyoung with an apologetic smile.
San grunted slightly, but eventually a smile spread across his face as he straightened up a little to look at the scene.
"So, which one is it this time?"
Wooyoung blinked and turned the kitten slightly towards San to try and identify it in the dim light coming through the curtains.
"Hmm... it's Kuromi," he said, seeing her boundless energy.
San laughed softly as he rubbed his eyes before running a hand over Kuromi's head.
"Of course, it's her... She's as impatient as you are to start the day."
Wooyoung feigned a sulky pout.
"Hey, I'm much calmer than she is."
San raised an amused eyebrow before gently pulling him in for a kiss on the forehead.
"Yes, of course, baby."
Byeol soon appeared, climbing carefully onto the bed before settling against San. He caressed her gently, a tender smile lighting up his features, which were still a little drowsy.
"Well, now that we're all awake... shall we make a nice breakfast?" suggested San, stroking Byeol's back.
"With pancakes?" asked Wooyoung, his eyes sparkling with enthusiasm.
San rolled his eyes and laughed.
"Yes, with pancakes. But you do the washing up."
"It's a deal," said Wooyoung, laying Kuromi on his shoulder, ready to start the perfect Christmas morning with San and their two little treasures.
And so began their day, filled with laughter, love and the mischievous little adventures of Kuromi and Byeol.
