Chapter 1: An erased past

Chapter Text

It was a morning like any other at the Kiramman residence. Caitlyn, a young Piltovian with blue hair and eyes, was preparing for another day as a watchman. Her goal was clear: to rise to the rank of Sheriff.

As she descended into the dining room of the imposing family home, a recurring thought haunted her mind: the dream she had had that night. It was not especially unusual, just a muscular, female silhouette, talking to her about the possibility of forming a duo. Caitlyn had already grown accustomed to these strange dreams, so she decided not to give them too much importance.

When she arrived at the dining room, she met her father, Tobias, who smiled affectionately at her. Although her relationship with him was good, it did not reach the closeness she had with her mother, Cassandra, who appeared from the kitchen announcing something with some displeasure:

―The chefs will take a while to bring breakfast.

―I don't understand why you hired them, Tobias. They are so… slow,” Cassandra commented, in her usual annoyed tone.

“Come on, Cass. They still haven't gotten used to our big kitchen. Give them time,” Tobias replied calmly, trying to soften his wife's fury.

“Okay, but they'll only have one more chance,” Cassandra conceded with a sigh, before directing her inquisitive gaze toward her daughter. “Caitlyn, how did you sleep? You seem distracted.”

The young woman looked away toward the tablecloth.

“It's nothing, mother. Just that… ever since the accident, I keep dreaming about a strange woman with pink hair,” she confessed in a low voice.

“About that again? Daughter, I already told you that they are just dreams. Don't give them importance,” Cassandra said, in a tone that mixed calm and firmness.

―Maybe you're right, but... they're so recurrent that I can't stop thinking about them,― Caitlyn admitted, scratching the back of her neck lightly.

―I understand your concern, but try not to obsess over it,― Cassandra replied, although her face revealed a slight hint of concern.

―Don't worry, mother.

Cassandra, changing the subject to dispel the discomfort, turned her attention to Tobias.

―Is there anything new, honey?

―No, everything is the same as always,― he replied with a serene smile.

―Well, I do have something interesting to tell you,― Caitlyn intervened, a slight blush tinting her cheeks.― There's a new guard. Her name is Maddie Nolan, I think.

Cassandra arched an eyebrow and sketched a mischievous smile.

―Are you interested in this Maddie? You should… get to know her better.

―Maybe… yeah, I think I'll give her a chance,― Caitlyn said with a shy smile, though her eyes seemed to sparkle with excitement.

As she thought about Maddie, she remembered the intensity of her grey eyes under the sun and the way her red hair moved in the wind. It was as if everything about this new vigilante mesmerized her. However, a fleeting memory interrupted her thoughts: the image of a woman with pink hair, a strong build and a charming smile.

Caitlyn felt a chill. She couldn't see that woman's eyes in her vision, but her presence was impossible to ignore.

―I have to go change. With your permission, parents,― she said, a little upset by the sudden appearance of that image.

―Of course, dear,― Cassandra replied.

"Good luck, my little watcher," Tobias added with a hint of pride.

Caitlyn went up to her room, confused but determined to unravel the mystery behind these visions.
