“It’s Christmas and we’re in Tartarus,” the brunette stated, hands on her hips. Makoto had said he wanted to make this a Christmas Yukari wouldn’t forget…However, she didn’t expect it to involve Tartarus.
The blue-haired boy said nothing as he cut through another Shadow in their way. They’ve been wandering the first few floors of Tartarus for a while now; filling the eerie atmosphere with mindless chatter and competing over defeating Shadow’s with the most ‘style’. It was silly, so silly that Yukari couldn’t help but think Makoto had suggested this for a well-needed distraction.
After continuing to wander through the distorted, narrowed halls, Makoto soon spotted the stairs leading up. Unanimously, they decided to take a breather. As the archer checked her remaining arrows in her quiver, she found herself getting lost in thought. Being in Tartarus on such a day felt like a fever dream. Yet – at the same time – she didn’t mind being away from everything. It was just her and Makoto here. In a twisted sense, it was comforting.
Yukari exhaled through her nose. “Gosh, this block reminds me of our beginning days…Can you believe it hasn’t even been a year? So much has happened,” she mused. Makoto nodded in response, stepping closer to her. He took her hand and slowly traced some circles on the back of her hand. With a soft giggle Yukari told him, "It's almost funny…The world is ending and yet, I feel calm. I wonder…” She looked up at him. “Is it because of you?” the brunette uttered, before quickly averting her eyes again, she felt heat rise up in her cheeks. What in the world possessed her to get all sentimental like that? She couldn’t believe what’d escaped her lips.
Afterwards, Yukari felt a soft hand brush under her chin, carefully grasping the tip of her chin and shifting her head back towards its owner. She shifted her eyes with the movement of her head; dark blue eyes – like the sea – stared back at her. Yukari couldn’t help but stare, her throat became dry from gaping – she swallowed.
The blue-haired boy pulled her closer to him, running a hand down her back until it stopped mid-way. He smiled – a rare smile – and it was only aimed at her. It was only for her.
Yukari slowly shut her eyes, letting herself be completely indulged in the moment. The brunette led her hand up his arm and placed it on his rounded shoulder as she pulled herself closer. She felt Makoto’s arms fully wrap around her waist. Yukari stood on her tiptoes, slightly tilting her head as she came closer to his lips; she felt her heartbeat pounding.
In the next moment, the archer tasted the softness of his lips as she gently pressed her own against his. In their heartfelt moment, Yukari felt one of his hands slide up her head, mindlessly playing with her hair. Nothing else in the world counted right now. The brunette wished this would go on forever…
“I feel really calm as well…” he breathed into her ear.
“Silly…You’re always calm. Sometimes I worry, you’re too calm…” she mumbled back.
“Our first kiss in Tartarus,” Makoto stated, “no other guy could possibly top that.”
Yukari playfully rolled her eyes. “There won’t be any other,” she said, leaning more into the embrace of his hands. “I didn’t expect you to be the competitive type.”
“That’s only because of you,” he retorted softly. She couldn’t see his expression, but she could practically feel the cheeky grin spreading on his face.
Yukari exhaled through pursed lips. “Dork.”
It took a few more minutes before they separated again. The brunette saw Makoto staring into the middle distance. “The air inside Tartarus always feels the same,” Makoto started, glancing towards the ceiling.
Yukari perked up. “Hm?”
“Seasons pass by, but it’s like time’s standing still here. I want to cherish this moment forever,” the blue-haired teen ended, shifting his attention back onto her.
The brunette felt her cheeks heat up once more. Makoto could be so weird, distant even…But he could be quite romantic too – in his very own way at least. “Time doesn’t need to stand still.” Yukari smiled. She definitely shared the sentiment of wanting to spend more time with her boyfriend. “We’ll have plenty of opportunities like this after we get rid of Nyx.”
“You mean to tell me there’s going to be a Tartarus 2.0?” he quipped with a raised eyebrow.
She lightly pushed his arm. “Jeez! Who are you? Stupei? You know what I mean...”
Makoto hummed. “I think I need a better motivation for defeating Nyx. Maybe wear that Maid-outfit for me?”
Yukari rolled her eyes. He definitely hung around Junpei too much… “Fine, consider it a deal. Defeat Nyx for me and I’ll wear it for you.”
“Promise me.”
“I promise, Makoto…I “ she paused. “I love you.”
Makoto took her face into his hand, brushing her warm cheek. “I love you too…Yukari. May this be the first Christmas of many to come.”
“Yes, I would…I would like that.”
