Book Flood

Summary:

Y/N, Sun, and Moon celebrate Jólabókaflóðið!

Notes:

My mom discovered this tradition a few years ago and we’ve been doing it ever since!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Are we ready for Jólfdjbafbdh?” you ask.

“That’s not how you pronounce it,” Moon corrects.

“Well, how do you pronounce it?”

“Jólabókaflóðið,” Moon says perfectly.

“That’s exactly what I said.”

“Say it again.”

“Jólfurberderfdfsfg.”

“You sound like the Swedish Chef from the Muppets,” Sun laughs.

“In my defense, it’s hard to pronounce,” you defend.

“Still,” Moon said.

“Fine, are we ready to do book flood?” you ask, making sure to heavily enunciate the words book and flood.

“Yeah!” Sun cheers.

“Yes,” Moon says. You reach under the tree and pull out the presents for Sun and Moon. Moon reaches under the tree and grabs the mysterious third present. You give Sun a present wrapped in yellow wrapping paper that says To Sun. Then you give Moon a present wrapped in blue wrapping paper that has To Moon written on it.

“One for Sun. And one for Moon,” you say when you give them their presents.

“And one for you,” Moon says as he hands you the third present. The wrapping paper is your favorite color and it has To Starlight written on it.

“Thanks, Moon,” you say as you grab the present.

“Sun helped pick it out,” Moon says.

“Thanks, Sun!”

“You’re welcome!” Sun says.

“Who wants to go first?” you ask. Sun and Moon say nothing. You assume they want you to go first but you don't. Moon seems to notice this.

“I guess I’ll go first,” Moon says as he begins to unwrap his present. Inside is a book on the meaning of dreams. Moon smiled as he realized what it was. “Nice,” he said.

“I want to go next!” Sun announced.

“Go for it!” you reply. Sun tears open his gift and sees a picture book titled The Book With No Pictures. “Oh! I’ve heard of this book! The kids will love it!” Sun exclaimed.

“I thought you would like it,” you say, “I thought it was funny,” you continue.

“Now it’s your turn!” Sun squealed. You unwrap your gift and find the book you’ve been wanting for months.

“You got it!?” You ask excitedly, “This has been sold out everywhere!” you exclaim.

“Let’s just say we have our ways,” Moon says nonchalantly.

“Merry Jólabókaflóðið guys!” Sun says.

“Merry Jólabókaflóðið,” Moon replies.

“Merry Jufindaflubaderbadobafedjncfed,” you say. Moon rolls his eyes. The three of you spend the rest of the evening eating chocolate and reading.

Notes:

I wanted to give Sun a picture book so I decided to use The Book With No Pictures because I loved it when I was little.
