Work Text:

Jetfire had been awake for quite some time. He knew that he needed recharge, but he couldn’t help himself watch Red Alert recharge so soundly in his arms, that he felt comfortable and safe in Jetfire’s embrace.

The smaller bot's back was pressed against Jetfire's chassis, his arms wrapped tightly around them, one of his arms being used as a pillow for Red Alert.

Red had said that Jetfire was the most comfiest pillow, which he had a hard time believing.

Though, he had never used himself as a pillow before.

He felt Red Alert stirred in his arms, blinking his optics open.

“Good morning, love,” Jetfire whispered, placing a kiss on Red Alert’s helm.

“Mm…morning…” Red Alert mumbled, trying to get the last bits of recharge out of him.

Jetfire leaned down and nuzzled the top of Red’s head. “Do you know what day it is?”

“Remind me…” Oh, he knew exactly what day it was, Jetfire could tell in his voice.

“It’s our anniversary.”

One year ago today, they had asked each other to become conjunx endurea, to be together forever.

Red Alert turned in Jetfire’s arms, now facing him. “Is it now?”

Jetfire smiled. “Yes, it is.”

Red buried his face in Jetfire’s chassis. “Do we even have a plan for today?” As much as he loved that Jetfire knew when their anniversary was, it was difficult to do any of the activities related to it when the entire planet was in…disarray, and they were the last ones left.

“Recharge more.” He wasn’t too tired, but Red looked like he would benefit from some more. Plus, Jetfire wasn’t going to miss out of more cuddling with his partner, he had just been on a journey that lasted him a couple of weeks.

Red smiled against the plating. “Sounds like a plan to me.”

Truth be told, Jetfire did have some semblance of a plan. While he was out on his travels, Jetfire had managed to find something that he knew that Red would love.

It was a perfect anniversary gift.

That…was most of his plan, really. He thought about what they would do if the world wasn't like what it was, but that just made Jetfire more sad than anything.

He would be content if they just held onto each other for the whole day.

*

Red Alert awoke first this time, optics opening to a faceful of Jetfire.

Not the worst place he's woken up to.

Far from it.

He looked up from his spot, finding that Jetfire had fallen into recharge at some point. He moved up closer to his partner's face, and snuggled into the crook of his neck.

He sighed contently. He could be stuck here for the rest of his functioning, and he would be happy.

Red really wasn't tired anymore, he probably could leave if he wanted to.

He really didn't want to leave.

And it seemed like Jetfire shared the same sentiment, as his grip on Red Alert tightened.

“Mmm…you awake, Jet?”

Jetfire merely hummed as he nuzzled Red's helm.

“Should we get up?”

Jetfire really didn't want to. He didn't have to leave for another few days for an energon run, and there was no real reason to actually get up.

However, his HUD was starting to ping at him to refuel, and he guessed the same was happening to Red Alert.

Plus, he wanted to give his gift at some point or another today.

Jetfire sighed. “Ya, probably.”

Red Alert tried to wiggle out of the embrace, but Jetfire smiled, keeping his hold tight as he got up.

“Jetfire, you know that you don't have to carry me around everywhere.”

“Oh, I am aware.”

Red Alert chuckled as he started to place kisses along Jetfire's helm.

Jetfire walked to the supply closet, grabbing a couple of rations before heading to the couch.

“No. Not the couch.”

“Yes. The couch.”

Red really had no choice, Jetfire was carrying him, not to mention, he had no plans to leave Jetfire's embrace.

Jetfire sat down, and Red slid down to his lap, and was given the ration of energon.

It was a comfortable silence, relaxing in each other's touch.

After a while, both had finished their energon, and Jetfire was about to relax on the couch before he remembered his gift.

“Red?”

“Hm?”

He readjusted Red Alert to easily access his subspace.

“I got something for you.”

Red Alert flushed. “Jet, you didn't have to get me anything.” If he was being honest, he wasn't too sure what Jetfire could get him.

He really wasn't expecting anything.

Soon enough, Jetfire pulled out a small something, going the extra to wrap it in a piece of old tarp.

“But I did.”

Red Alert chuckled. “I'm just impressed you managed to find something in this scrap heap. I mean planet.”

That got a laugh out of Jetfire, a genuine one. For all the times they kissed and cuddled, Jetfire usually kept his laughs tame around Red Alert.

“-scrap heap!”

“It's true, though!”

It took a bit for Jetfire to settle down. Through his dying giggles, he gave the gift to Red Alert.

“Are you going to live?”

Jetfire gasped. “I believe so.”

Red Alert chuckled as he unwrapped the gift, gasping as he saw it.

A music tape, somehow still intact. At least on the outside.

“Jetfire…thank you.”

“I have no idea what music is on there.”

“Let's see, shall we?”

Red Alert pulled out his music player, and placed the new tape in. He hit play, and music came out. It sounded like rock music, something he didn't have yet.

Red smiled as he hugged Jetfire, the larger mech hugging him back.

“I got you something too,” Red whispered.

Jetfire blinked. He was not expecting something.

Red Alert grabbed his gift from his own subspace, a small box. He handed it over to Jetfire, who examined it carefully.

“It's a miracle that we were able to find anything to count as a gift.”

Red chuckled. “Open it, already!”

“Calm down, I'm getting to it.”

Jetfire carefully opened the box, gasping softly as he pulled the gift out.

It was a pair of rings, one big, the other smaller than the first one.

Compared to other rings he had seen before, these were quite simple. Merely metal bands with some symbolic carvings engraved.

Jetfire wouldn't change them for the world.

He slipped on the first ring, finding it fitting perfectly on his finger. Looking at the second ring, it seemed to be made to fit Red's finger. Jetfire carefully lifted Red's hand, and slipped the ring on.

“I…I know it's not much-”

Jetfire placed his hand under Red's chin. “It's perfect. I love it. Thank you, Red.”

Red Alert moved up, and met Jetfire's lips. Jetfire held Red Alert up as he held Jetfire's helm. Love through the bond was sent from both bots.

After several moments, they broke apart, panting slightly.

“How did you get the ring to fit my finger?” Jetfire asked. As far as he could remember, Red Alert never asked him for his fingers to measure, and it would be difficult to do so while he was out.

“It's surprisingly easy to measure your fingers while you're recharging,” Red Alert smiled.

Of course he would do that.

“How dare you take advantage of me while we’re recharging?” Jetfire asked in mock offence.

Red learned against Jetfire. “Yes, yes, how dare I take ‘advantage’ of you for a gift.”

Jetfire tightened his arms around Red Alert as another comfortable silence came upon them again.

“Red?”

“Hm?”

“I love you.”

Red Alert smiled. “Love you, too.”
