Work Text:
For another year in a row, Jimin has to third wheel a bunch of couples at a Christmas Eve party.
It’s not that she doesn’t know anyone at the party—she knows nearly each and every person. It’s just that she prefers being in a corner, quietly listening in order to avoid any questions being asked about her significant other.
The more she lingers around, the more the ache in her heart expands. She’s supposed to be happy and jolly, not standing in the corner with a tentative smile that’s just barely enough to convince her friends.
Looking down at the drink in her glass and swirling it around, she wonders what her girlfriend is doing. Her hand brushed over her phone, contemplating calling Minjeong.
Before she can wonder into the idea more, a hand nudges her. “Hey.” A man approaches her, someone she doesn’t know this time, leaning against the counter beside her with a drink in hand. “Saw you moping around and thought I could entertain you. I’m Jae.”
The raven snorts, turning her glass. “I have a girlfriend, but if you’d like to talk, then that’s fine.” Jimin shifts a bit, letting out a sigh.
Jae makes a face of understanding, his shoulders tensing. “Oh, I’m so sorry. I’m assuming your girlfriend isn’t here which is the reason why you looked like a kicked puppy?” He jokes, making Jimin laugh.
She’s upset that she’s become used to this, having no one to kiss under the mistletoe. But she thinks she rather have no one than kiss anyone else but Minjeong. Doing long distance has taught both of them a few things, like self control, patience and resilience. It may be hard at times, but Jimin feels a warmth in her heart when she remembers that Minjeong still loves her, no matter how far apart they are.
A while ago, Jimin received the news that she wouldn’t be able to visit for Christmas. It was heartbreaking, discouraged the raven a little because she couldn’t even visit her girlfriend herself. And spending Christmas alone is such a humbling experience.
Jimin shakes her head, trying to focus on the current moment. She’s barely listening as Jae talks, occasionally humming to show that she’s there. But the more they begin to talk, the more the raven misses her girlfriend. Even if she was single, she still wouldn’t entertain Jae. He was simply nice to talk to but nothing else.
Throughout their conversation, Jimin glances at her phone and lights up when she sees a certain notification. “I’m sorry, I have to take this.” She lifts her phone before running out of the area.
She says her goodbyes to her friends, knowing she isn’t going to come back. Minjeong hasn’t actually even called her yet, however, she tells the raven that she’s free to chat for a little.
The raven sends herself home, settling for the night.
Jimin shivers, snow falling just outside her apartment, reflecting the coldness she feels inside. The heater is on yet she still feels cold under her thick Christmas pajamas, silly elf socks and a good amount of blanket on her bed. Jinwol also has been reacting to the weather, preferring to stay in his corner rather than let his paws come in contact with the cold tiles.
It’s quiet, nothing other than the Christmas music that has been playing all day long from the Alexa device. It’s supposed to feel the void the raven has been trying to fill, however, nothing seems to occupy the emptiness that has been lingering in her apartment for so long.
Sighing, Jimin wipes at her tears and reaches for her phone. She scrolls to her most recent contact and presses the facetime button. She patiently waits and waits, letting her phone vibrate in her hand. Just as she begins to become restless, the phone finally picks up, causing the raven to peek up in excitement.
“Minjeong!”
The girl on the other end smiles widely, waving her hand at her. “Hi, my love! I’m sorry I didn’t answer earlier, was super busy with something. How are you?” Minjeong sets the phone down, her full face coming to view.
Jimin feels her heart pace at the sight of her girlfriend, who she’s been missing so badly. Being long distance has been a bit difficult for them, not being able to spend as much time with eachother as they’d like to, but they refused to give up. Their love is too strong to let distance break them apart. However, it doesn’t mean they didn’t miss eachother.
Especially the raven, who happens to be a particularly needy person. What she needs right now in this weather, is Minjeong loving hugs and kisses, which she can’t get and will not get for another long while.
Jimin shakes her head, just happy to see her girlfriend. Although, she wishes she could see the girl in real time. “It’s okay, I know you’re busy. Just don’t get too busy.” She tries humorously.
Minjeong chuckles in response. “I’ll never get too busy for you.” The brunette’s warm smile gleams evident through the phone screen, that Jimin’s heart can’t help but flutter.
They eventually begin settling into a comfortable conversation, the older telling her girlfriend about her day. Compared to her conversation with Jae, Jimin feels herself wanting to just talk and talk, and diligently listen to the younger speak. As they talk, Jimin can’t help but notice Minjeong’s constant moving. The younger keeps looking up, but makes it known that she’s still listening. Minjeong has always been an attentive person so to see something distracting her is a little concerning.
After some time, Minjeong stills, looking at Jimin with a curious expression. “Baby, what do you want for Christmas?” The brunette asks, placing Jimin into a moment of thought.
Really, Jimin already has something on her mind, but she knows her girlfriend’s going to call her corny for it. But the last thing she wants is for her to lie.
Jimin, with her head resting in her pillow, she waits a few moments before answering. “What I want for Christmas? If I had to be honest, all I want is to be able to spend time with you. I want to be able to see you, feel you, breathe you in and touch you. I want to hear your voice nearby, I want to sleep next to you and feel you hold me.” She pauses, seeing how Minjeong’s face has saddened. “I- I want to be able to kiss you.”
Jimin breaths in and out, attempting to prevent her tears from falling. She knew she missed her girlfriend—but to know that she missed Minjeong this much physically hurts her chest.
Minjeong swallows, her eyes roaming Jimin’s face. “Me too, my love. I miss you so much that I don’t know what to do with myself. I’m sorry.” Her girlfriend sincerely apologizes, leaving the raven to wipe at her tears even more. She didn’t mean to make her feel bad.
Silence encases them, Jimin’s tears slowing down in speed. She knows she’s asking for too much, although, she can’t help it.
“It’s not your fault. I just- really wish you were here and that you were always here.” She can feel tiredness slowly take over her, her body sinking more into the mattress. Her head starts hurt and her eyes start to blur. “I’m going to head to sleep, love.”
Minjeong nods, wanting to say more, but settles with pressing her lips together. “Alright. Sleep well, I love you so much.” She sends her an air kiss, making the older smile.
“I love you too, my love.”
Then the call hangs up, a warmth being left with the raven as she drifts off to sleep.
-
When Jimin wakes up, her body doesn’t feel as cold as it did the night before.
She blinks in confusion, her gaze settling on the light behind the blinds. Did it suddenly get warmer?
Then she freezes, because there’s slow breathing behind her, tickling her neck as well as an arm slung around her waist just under her shirt. She doesn’t turn around immediately because she’s still trying to figure out whether or not she’s imagining things. The clock beside her ticks and ticks, time allowing the woman to realize that she isn’t dreaming.
Jimin knows she isn’t because there’s a specific sweet scent lingering around her that only belongs to someone in specific.
She blindly reaches for her phone, glancing briefly at it. December 25th. It was Christmas.
The presence behind her groans, snuggling closer to the raven and Jimin fights the urge to sob.
“Minjeong?” She calls out quietly. There’s no answer. “Babe?” She tries again, and this time, a whine echoed in her ear.
There’s ruffling sounds, making Jimin hold her breath. “Yes? Why are you up so ear-” Before the person can finish her sentence, the raven jumps up and turns around, throwing herself onto the body next to her.
Her girlfriend giggles fill the room, sitting up to hold Jimin properly. “Someone’s excited for Christmas.” Minjeong presses a kiss to her hair, all while stroking her back in comfort. “Hi, my love.”
Digging her head into the brunette’s face, Jimin is still in disbelief. “What- How? How are you here? I thought you wouldn’t be able to come over this time?” Questions hurl out, too fast for the younger girl in front of her to handle.
Minjeong fixes her on her lap as she pulls one of the blanket around her girlfriend. “Remember what you told me yesterday? What you wanted for Christmas?” Jimin slowly nods, easily recalling the call.
Large hands reach for Jimin’s smaller ones, tangling their fingers together. Jimin untangles and tangles them again, like she’s trying to actually take in the brunette’s breathing form in front of her. “I wasn’t expecting it to actually come true- How did you even get here? How are you here?” The raven lifts her gaze and meets beautiful, alluring eyes.
Before Minjeong explains herself, she cups Jimin’s face and firmly kisses her. And fuck, Jimin nearly keens, sighing into the brunette’s mouth as she kisses back eagerly, as it’s the first time in a while that she’s being able to feel Minjeong’s lips against her own.
When the brunette’s deprived her of all her oxygen, she pulls away, sighing happily. Jimin leans into her touch, desperately wanting more of her kisses.
“When you called me, I was actually at the airport, waiting for my flight to board. Luckily, I caught a flight just before the heavy snow started up again.” Minjeong finally explains, a smile teasing on her lips.
Her girlfriend wanted to surprise her and she did, because Jimin is still in shock. She still can’t believe she’s even in Minjeong’s embrace right now. Happiness settles in her heart, this Christmas morning being the best one in a while.
Suddenly, Minjeong reaches for something, the raven’s eyes watching her girlfriend move secretly. “This is just the least of the Christmas gifts, but here, read it.” She hands Jimin a folded paper.
The raven curiously unravels the paper, wondering what the contents might be. Minjeong rests her chin against Jimin’s back as they both read what the paper says.
Soon, Jimin straightens, a gasp escaping her lips. “What do you mean you got transferred to the branch over here? You’re staying this time? You’re not leaving me? For real?” The older woman’s wide eyes make her girlfriend laugh brightly.
A nod answers her questions, prompting the raven to throw her arms around her frame, tightly hugging her. Minjeong hugs her back, kissing her cheek mutiple times in between.
Minjeong strokes her hair gently, while her other hand rubs Jimin’s back up and down. “I managed to find a place, a really nice spacious one because my transfer to the new branch meant I’d be getting paid even more fancily. If you’d like to, I’d want you to live with me, together.” Her voice is a little hesitant, as if the raven’s would even say no to living with her beloved.
The raven leans back only slightly. “Are you kidding me, Minjeong? Why would I say no?” Jimin bumps their foreheads together. Minjeong whines but soon smiles nonetheless.
Jimin eventually stares, taking in her girlfriend. She’s not dreaming, Santa really placed a human sized Minjeong at her door, and she’s beautiful. Her hand reaches up to caress the brunette’s face, running her thumb over smooth skin gently.
“You’re really here.” Jimin breathes, letting out a slow sigh at the way their noses nuzzle against eachother. “You’re here and I can finally feel you.”
Her girlfriend holds her hand against her own, as she nods carefully. “I am, and I’m not going anywhere.” Minjeong firmly states, all before slotting her lips between the raven’s.
When their lips meet this time, Jimin feels some many things at once. For goodness sake, she’s been apart from her beloved for so long. So when a hand slides under her sweater, running across her waist, Jimin lets out a whimper, scooting closer to her girlfriend until her legs are locked around Minjeong’s back. Her own arms eventually find their way around the brunette’s shoulders, fingers of one hand tangling with short brown locks.
Minjeong’s making subtle noises as they kiss, trying to keep her passionate desire under bay. But Jimin hears her throaty grunts loud and clear when she tugs gently on her hair. It makes the younger kiss her firmer, ravishing her mouth like Jimin’s the last source of oxygen left on the earth.
The heat at her core only grows warmer, the raven fighting an urge to find friction against Minjeong’s pelvis.
“I know what you’re doing.” Minjeong takes it as a chance to catcher her breath.
Jimin keeps her eyes closed, a slight smirk occupying her lips. “Mmh, what am I doing?” Her fingers begin to play with Minjeong’s shirt buttons.
Minjeong shakes her head humorously, giving Jimin one last long kiss before she moves the raven off her lap and stands up. “I have stuff planned for you and if you keep me in the bed, none of it is getting done.” She turns away from her girlfriend which makes Jimin laugh.
However, Jimin crawls over and tugs her back down onto the bed. She pushes the brunette down until her back hits the mattress. Kneeling in between her legs, the older removes her sweater swiftly, no longer feeling cold. She grins as Minjeong stares at her with wide eyes.
The brunette’s hands reach for Jimin, resting on her bum as she allows the raven to settle on her. They bring their lips together, no longer tentatively. “Okay….. maybe they can wait.” Minjeong mumbles in between, sliding off her girlfriend’s shorts in one motion. Jimin giggles brightly.
She thinks they’re off to a great morning already.
-
After a nice warm shower, Minjeong gets started on breakfast, making the raven watch prettily by the counter as she works diligently. Jimin gazes lovingly while she watches her beloved pace around the kitchen.
It’s snowing outside, snowflakes sticking onto the windows. Jimin feels comfortable, spinning in her chair with a warm feeling in her chest. Her home and heart doesn’t feel empty anymore. Christmas music plays, and compared to the day before, they sound merrier, the raven swaying her head to the music.
Two large plates are placed in front of her, along with some small plates. “Breakfast is served. Enjoy!” Minjeong dusts her hands off, letting her girlfriend take in the sight of food.
Jimin’s eyes wander over the selections, looking up at the younger with disbelief. “Baby, this is a lot of food.” She tells her with a pout, following her figure that eventually sits next to her.
Her girlfriend plucks a berry from one of the bowls and pops it into her mouth. “You need a hearty breakfast after all the energy we just burnt.” Minjeong shrugs, laughing when Jimin slaps her shoulder.
Of course, Minjeong shares, making her own plate with the series of food on the counter. While they eat and converse, Jimin counts the things the brunette has given her already.
She figures that she doesn’t have to worry about Minjeong leaving this time. She’s here to stay.
Jimin opens her mouth to let her girlfriend feed her, humming in approval. “Gosh, I missed you cooking.” She admits, enjoying all the food showcased.
The younger laughs, patting her thigh lightly. “I’m glad you like the food. After we’re done, I planned to take you ice skating, that’s if you want to.” Minjeong tells her plans, scraping her first plate clean.
“Where did you have time to plan all these things? I would love to go ice skating with you.” The raven smiles, her foot nudging against Minjeong’s leg.
Making a face, her girlfriend stares off toward a direction. “I have my ways. Do you want to open presents before we go?”
Jimin blinks in confusion, unable to recall placing any gifts under her tree. However, when she looks back at the once empty tree, she’s surprised to see a decent amount of gifts, in all sizes. Jimin’s jaw drop as she looks between her girlfriend and the gifts. The brunette keeps continuing to blow her mind. She doesn’t know what she did to deserve such a kind soul.
Turning her attention to her food, she shakes her head in disbelief. “What are even in all those presents?” She quietly asks.
Minjeong rubs her back, and the older woman knows she’s enjoying catching her off guard. “All the gifts I’ve wanted to give to you over the year. You want to go open them?” She motions toward the tree.
Springing up to her feet, Jimin skips to the tree, sitting down and situation herself in front of it. Minjeong sits right beside, the raven taking it as a chance to scoot between her legs so that her back is resting against the brunette’s front.
Her girlfriend wraps her arms around her waist and leans her chin on Jimin’s shoulder as the raven chooses a random gift to open first. Jimin shakes the box carefully, trying to make out what it possibly could be. She opens it after a few shakes, unraveling the wrapping paper.
The first gift is Jimin’s favorite perfume that she literally had just ran out of. She gasps, looking back at Minjeong with excitement. “I was just thinking about buying my refill and you bought it for me?” She pouts, looking back at the perfume bottle.
She thinks Minjeong deserves a kiss for every present. So she places a kiss on the brunette’s cheek for the first gift. Her girlfriend blushes, diverting the attention from her by reaching for another gift.
Jimin opens the lid, removing the paper surrounding the object. It’s a small box, jewelry size. The raven opens it and inside is a beautiful silver necklace, the letter J engraved into a heart emblem. The raven nearly tears up at the sight of the necklace.
“Do you like it?” Minjeong’s voice is quiet as she asks. She gazes back at the raven when she shifts a little to look at her girlfriend.
The raven wipes at her eyes, happy tears making her eyes blurry. “I love it, Minjeong. It’s so beautiful.” Her hand goes under the heart emblem, the silver sparkling brightly.
Minjeong relaxes against her in relief, reaching for the necklace. She pushes back Jimin’s hair from her neck and helps put on the necklace. When she’s done, she presses a kiss to her skin before settling her hair back down.
Jimin gently brushes her thumb over the jewelry, still astonished at how perfect it looks around her. “Thank you. I think I’ve found my favorite piece of jewelry.” She squeezes Minjeong’s hand on her thigh.
The next present is a just a bit bigger than the last. The raven removes the bow and takes off the lid, removing a photo book from the box. There’s a photo of her and Minjeong, one from when they first started dating. Jimin runs her finger over the photo, taking in how young they looked.
Minjeong opens the album, a little note “It’s a photo book full of our memories. There’s still lots of open slots for new ones, now that we’d be together now. Starting….” Minjeong lifts her phone, leaning into Jimin and motioning for her to face the camera. She takes a photo, wide smiles on both of their faces. “With this one!”
Afterwards, the doorbell rings, causing Minjeong to jump to her feet. “Ah, one moment.” She runs over to the door, leaving Jimin on the floor.
Jimin flips through the photo book, wondering how her girlfriend managed to keep count of all of these. Her heart melts as she sees that Minjeong’s placed all types of photos of the both of them, even individually. The good, the ugly, and the silly. All of it is in the album.
Minjeong returns shortly after, hiding her hands. Jimin raises an eyebrow at her, curious as to what’s she’s hiding. The brunette reveals her hands, a large bouquet in one hand. She hands it to Jimin, who’s in another state of shock.
“Just how much gifts do have for me? Minjeong, this is too much.” She pulls the brunette down to the floor, onto the mess of wrapping paper. “I didn’t even get you anything. How am I supposed to compete?”
Of course, her girlfriend refutes, pulling Jimin back into her arms. “I get your love and affection, that’s enough for me. Just take me spoiling you today as an apology for all the time we’ve spent apart. I know it’ll never make up the loss of time but I atleast wanted you to feel special. I felt bad yesterday when you told me how much you missed me.” Minjeong sighs, which makes the older place the flowers aside.
Turning around, Jimin takes her hands, tangling their fingers together. “My love, you being here alone is enough for me. It means the world that you went through these lengths just to make sure you were here on Christmas. And you’re staying, we’re moving in together, what more can I ask for now that I’ll no longer be apart from the most important person in my life?” She moves closer, letting go of Minjeong’s hands to cup her cheeks.
Jimin makes the brunette look at her, allowing the older to study her face. Minjeong is truly real and right in front of her. Not only did Santa grant her wish, he gave her even more.
She leans forward to brush their lips together, stroking the hairs near Minjeong’s ear as they briefly kiss. When they separate, her girlfriend is smiling like a fool.
“Thank you, for everything. I love you.” The raven sincerely tells her, resting her head against the younger’s.
Minjeong presses her lips lightly to her hair. “I love you, too. You deserve everything good in life.”
-
Jimin finishes opening Minjeong’s meaningful gifts and afterwards, they clean up the kitchen together before heading out to the ice rink.
When they arrive at the rink, there’s a decent amount of people, not too much. Jimin’s eyes briefly glance over at the area as the brunette helps put on her skates.
Grunting as she stands to her feet, Minjeong reaches for her hand, slipping her knuckles between Jimin’s. “All done! Come on, let’s get onto the rink.”
The raven laughs, following Minjeong onto the rink. They both know how to ice skate, it’s just been a while since they’ve done so. Jimin skates on the ice smoothly, alongside her girlfriend who has the biggest smile on her face.
They’re dressed warmly, Jimin layering in a dark brown coat, a blue scarf, Ugg’s and black pants. Minjeong decided on a beige coat, with the white scarf Jimin had gifted her a while ago. Her short hair sits perfectly on top and the younger appears so adorable.
She feels like a teenager again, heart stumbling as Minjeong pulls her close until their fronts bump. Her girlfriend holds her by her waist, her eyes wandering Jimin’s face like she’s the most precious person on earth. At that moment, the raven does feel like the most precious person on earth as her beloved stares fondly at her.
It’s cold in the rink, although, the warmth between them is enough to make her forget about even being cold.
Minjeong releases her to spin her around, the older woman giggling as her girlfriend makes her feel special. The brunette then brings her back into her embrace, the both of them continuing to skate at a steady pace.
This time, they’re closer than before and Jimin’s breath hitches at how their lips nearly touch at their proximity. “You know, it’s the first time I’m seeing you in such a long time. The more I gaze at you, the more I wonder how such a beautiful and wonderful girl loves me as much as she does. Everytime I look at you, I fall in love over and over again.” Minjeong whispers against her lips, deeply with passion as she speaks.
It was hard, very hard being apart from eachother. There were times where Jimin broke down, being in such a state of stress because she had no one to comfort her. She had missed Minjeong so much over the course of time, felt the longing that eventually occupied her heart. Even through it all, her feelings never subsided. Instead, she was left yearning for her girlfriend more and more, her feelings growing tenfold whenever she missed her girlfriend and whenever there were times they finally met again.
She feels just the same, witnesses herself fall so deeply for Minjeong over and over again. She felt the heavy approach wash over her like a huge wave, knocking all the air out of her when she realized that the person she had been waiting for all this time was finally beside her.
Jimin thinks it’s the little things that helped her push through. The FaceTime calls, the caring messages, the short visits, the leftover things that reminded her of Minjeong.
The one thing that kept her sane was Minjeong’s pink hoodie that she left her. It had her scent all over it and there were times where she either used it as a blanket or as a device to help her calm down.
She likes Minjeong taking care of her, she loves that she knows her girlfriend cares and that she’ll go through the lengths to make her feel appreciated, loved, comfortable. It’s the reason why she missed the brunette so much.
Lifting her arms, the raven wraps them around Minjeong’s neck, slotting her lips in between the younger’s. She kisses Minjeong deeply, feeling the latter put in as much love and passion into the kiss as she does. She feels a hand run up her back, until it’s caressing Jimin’s cheek, stroking her thumb over her skin.
They kiss until Jimin runs out of breath, settling with small pecks in between. Minjeong’s lips is soft, has always been, yet, her kisses are confident, sure in what and who she wants.
Sighing, Jimin parts from the younger, switching back to holding hands and skating next to eachother. “Thank you. You’ve made my day when I thought I’d be spending Christmas alone. All you’ve done is spoiled me and showed me how much you love me. I feel the same way, I find myself falling in love all over again, with all of you, and I can’t imagine loving anyone else.”
Being here with her girlfriend, Jimin’s heart soars knowing that this is one of many moments with her one and only. She’d like to continue making memories like this one on such a special day.
Deciding to sit down for a break, they scoot close and Jimin watches as Minjeong smoothes out the creases in her pants. “Can you hear what they’re playing?”
The raven listens closely, trying to make out the song.
‘I don’t want a lot for Christmas’
‘There is just one thing I need’
‘I don’t care about the presents underneath the Christmas tree’
‘I just want you for my own’
‘More than you could ever know’
‘Make my wish come true’
Minjeong rests her head on her shoulder, pulling their interlocked fingers into her lap. “How ironic.” She mumbles, laughing along with her girlfriend.
She’s so in love. Jimin doesn’t need anything else. With Minjeong by her side, there’s nothing more she could possibly ask for. The brunette being here is the best Christmas gift she could ever receive.
‘All I want for Christmas is you’
