Work Text:
Another restless night came around for Vessel.
He couldn't sleep, no matter how hard he tried.
Couldn't get his mind to slow down enough for him to get sleep.
He wasn't tired. He was wide awake and bored, his mind craving activities. He could clean his room, but that didn't seem exciting. He could read, but that also didn't seem exciting. Writing was an option, but it was the same as the others. Boring.
He could...Play his keyboard. That seemed like a viable option. But there was a few issues with that. It was across the house in the studio room, and II was dead asleep. If he woke up II, then he'd get reprimanded and sent back to bed like a young child, and that was embarrassing. But if he was quiet enough... He could pull it off. Was it worth the risk? Yes.
So, Vessel took off through the house, creeping through the halls to the studio room. He slowly opened the door, making a loud creaking sound that immediately made Vessel freeze. He stayed still and quiet for a moment, listening in for any sounds or movements from II. Once the cost seemed clear, he continued, shutting the door behind him. Sitting in the corner was II's drum kit, with the sticks nowhere in sight, as usual. II always somehow lost his damn sticks no matter what. In the other corner was Vessel's piano, gathering dust from lack of use. He probably should clean it off, but that can wait for another time. His guitar was leaned up against the wall, the strings begining to oxidize and rust. Damn it, he'd have to replace those sometime. The main goal of this entire midnight adventure was right in the middle of the room, his keyboard. The mic seemed to be lowered, sitting way below where Vessel's mouth was. Probably Sam's doing.
It didn't matter though. He was simply going to use the keys anyway, not the mic. A long skinny finger pressed down on a key, the sound echoing around the room. Another finger touched a different key, then so on so forth. He then ran a hand up and down the keyboard, playing around with it out of boredom. The keyboard didn't extinguish his need to do something like he thought it would. He was still wide awake and wanted to do something. Vessel's eyes aimlessly wandered around the room, thinking of what else seemed interesting enough to do until they fell upon II's drums. Now that seemed intriguing. Should he be playing around with II's drums? Probably not. Was he going to do it anyway? Most definitely. He wandered over to the drums, looking it over. Damn II and his red bull, this thing was covered in drink spills and stains! Have to call Sam sometime to have him wipe down and de-drinkify II's drums, and maybe have him knock some sense into the drummer. The question was where were the drumsticks? Of course they weren't with the drums, but they seemed to be nowhere in the room. Vessel even restored to crawling around on the floor to see if they rolled under something, but nothing was found. Now he really couldn't mess with II's drums, unless...
Spoons.
He could grab spoons from the kitchen and use them as makeshift drumsticks. Surely they'd be somewhat similar, right? No, not at all, but Vessel doesn't care. He's bored and wants something to do. So, he creeped his way through the house and to the kitchen, scavenging through the utensil drawer and grabbing spoons before making his way back to the studio room. A slip of the hand caused him to drop a spoon, the metal clanging against the hardwood floor. Vessel panicked, snatching up the spoon and scrambling away before he could find out if II was woken up or not. He entered the studio and shut the door behind him, leaning back against it and letting out a breath he didn't know he was holding. After taking a breather, he made his way over to the drums, sitting down behind it.
With one spoon in each hand, he began to screw around on the drums, beating on them with the spoons. He mistakingly hit a cymbal, the metal on metal clash sending out a painful ringing in his ears. He winced before oathing to himself that he'd never touch a cymbal with a spoon again. He continued with the drums, messing around and giggling to himself. He got so caught up in it that he didn't realize II woke up until it was too late and II was standing in the doorway of the studio, glaring at him. Vessel shot him a wide-eyed, innocent look as he froze and immediately dropped the spoons.
"What are you doing?" II strained out, his voice scratchy from sleep. Vessel simply stared at him without making a peep, looking like a toddler who got caught staying up past bedtime. "Go get in bed, now." II hissed. Vessel simply let out an annoyed huff, remaining defiantly behind the drums.
"I'm not doing this with you, go to bed." II said, getting agitated. Vessel remained in his spot, refusing II's demands. "I will drag you out from behind there, now GO." II snapped, receiving a groan from Vessel as he eventually complied, but not without cursing under his breath. Vessel unwillingly shuffled out of the room, II following right behind him to make sure he actually went to his room. Once they reached the doorway to Vessel's room, Vessel turned around and made a shooing motion towards II. "You can go now, thanks." He grumbled sarcastically. II rolled his eyes before shoving Vessel into him room, the taller man yelping in surprise.
"Lay down." II hissed.
"I will! Can you get out though?" Vessel snapped back. II ignored him and shoved him onto the bed, tired of Vessel's shenanigans. Vessel shot him a look of disbelief, grumbling as he got under the sheets. "There. Now leave." He mumbled. II didn't reply as he crawled in bed with Vessel, laying down with an exhausted sigh. The taller man gave him a surprised look, expecting him to leave and return to his own room, not bunk with him.
"This is interesting..." Vessel started, II responding with a grumbled "shut up". II laid on his side, facing away from Vessel as he tried going back to sleep. Vessel has other plans. He cuddled up right behind II, dramatically throwing an arm around him before deciding to further annoy the man. He began to loudly sniff II, wanting to get a reaction out of him. When it didn't work, he resorted to giving II a big sloppy lick down the back of his neck, making the smaller man squirm and shiver out of disgust. "You nasty bastard!" II exclaimed, reaching behind him to try and hit Vessel. Vessel simply giggled to himself, not regretting his decision at all. "I'll do it again!" He cooed, getting a disgusted scoff out of II. "Quit your bullshit and go to bed!" II barked out. Vessel replied with a snicker, before going to speak, but was interrupted by II clamping a hand over his mouth. Vessel let out a whine, but slowly complied, shutting his mouth and getting ready for bed.
He snuggled up to II, throwing an arm around him and pulling the smaller man into his chest as his buried his face into II's shoulder. "Y'know, you're awfully mean to me..." Vessel grumbled, II responding with a grunt. He let out a grumble, then slowly his eyes began to flutter shut as his breathing slowed. II laid there awake, waiting for Vessel to fall completely asleep before getting up and returning to his own bed. That was the plan, but after being pulled into Vessel's warm embrace, he was having second thoughts. Ultimately, he decided to stay, rolling around to face Vessel as he threw an arm around the sleeping man, soaking up the large amounts of body heat radiating off of Vessel. Slowly, II began to drift to sleep, laying comfortably in Vessel's arms.
Throughout the night, Vessel threw all his limbs on top of II like an octopus, becoming tangled with one another. They stayed like that, their limbs tangled endlessly like lovers entwined, lost in the peace and tranquility of the night.
