AITA for ruining my teammates relationships without knowing it

Okay, so I know the title might make me seem like a complete AH, but hear me out. I didn’t intentionally ruin these relationships, it just … kinda happened, and I ended up being in the middle of it.

AITA for ruining my teammates relationships without knowing it

Okay, so I know the title might make me seem like a complete AH, but hear me out. I didn’t intentionally ruin these relationships, it just … kinda happened, and I ended up being in the middle of it. I also don’t want to pretend I had no part in it, but still. Anyway, here’s my story:

I (17M) am part of this competitive sports team, and somehow, I’ve accidentally ruined two romantic-ish relationships and one sibling relationship. Please don’t come at me, I swear I didn’t mean for it to happen or turn out like this.

The First Relationship I Ruined: N and M

Okay, so this one’s kinda weird. It all started during a camp we had early on. My team was facing off against N (17M) and M (17M) and their teammates. N and M are both prodigies at this sport, but they have a strange dynamic. N is super lazy and M is always the one taking care of him (like literally feeding him, carrying him around, practically doing everything for him). They’re practically attached at the hip. I didn’t know much about their relationship at the time, but it was pretty obvious they were pretty close.

Anyway, my team won that match, and I didn’t think much of it at first. Fast forward to the next part of the camp, where we had to form teams of three for a new phase. At first, I was hoping to team up with my friends, but N asked me to join him and M instead. I didn’t think it was a big deal, so I declined, thinking I’d rather be in a team with my friends. But in the end, N joined our team and left M. I didn’t really consider how much this would affect M, but when I ran into him in the middle of this phase later on, he was furious. He looked so hurt and I felt like it was partly my fault as the reason N wanted to join my team was because he thought I was interesting. Some time has past since then and they had made up and M and I had bonded a little but I think he still kinda holds a grudge against me and is still a little pissed about what had happened but from this event, he had improved his skill in the sport as he didn't relied on N as much and had grown as a person. So I don't think I really ruined it that much as they did make up.

The Second Relationship I Ruined: R and S (The Sibling Thing)

The second one’s even messier, and it really sucks because I didn’t even realize what was happening at the time. During the end of the camp, the coach put together the best players to form a team (which I was a part of) to face off against another team that had highly skilled players. We had R (16M), who’s kind of emo and standoffish, but an incredible player, and on the opposite team, we had S (18M), who’s also an amazing player, but he also got some serious attitude problems.

Here’s where it gets awkward: S and R are brothers, and they had a huge fallout a while back. S went overseas to play for another team, and when he came back, there was all this unresolved tension. R was kinda obsessed with proving himself to S or, I guess, proving that S was wrong about him. I didn’t fully understand it, but it was a big deal for R.

We ended up winning the match, and after the game, S went up to talk to R, and I really thought they were going to make up. But no. R walked away from that conversation looking pissed—at me. Apparently, S said something about me during their talk (probably because I scored the winning point), and afterward, R looked at me like he wanted to kill me. It was like, all the progress I thought we had made as teammates and friends went straight down the drain. Ever since then, R’s been low-key hostile, and I’m pretty sure I made their sibling relationship worse by just… existing in the same space. It’s like a one-sided beef as i dont think S realised how pissed R is as he seems to be emotionally stunted, but I still feel like it’s my fault.

The Latest One: K and A (The Toxic Romance Thing)

Now, here’s the big one. The most recent relationship I messed up was between K (19M) and A (19M). To be honest, I knew something was off between them when we had our first match playing with each other as teammates. K was kinda fixated on crushing me. Like, completely obsessed with beating me and everything (which is normal-ish as i have multiple rivals which want to also beat me). Which, I get—competitive spirits and all that and also because I want to beat him too. But the thing is, I didn’t realize just how much it affected his relationship with A.

K and A have this… complicated dynamic, and while I wouldn’t call it a full-blown romantic relationship, there were definitely one sided feelings from A to K. But the more K focused on me and trying to crush and one up me, the more toxic things got with A. It was like, everything became about me to K. I wasn’t just the opponent anymore, I became this obsession as K really wanted to beat me as something was said between us due to the heat of the game, and it started to mess with his mental state. K must have done something to A, and honestly, it spiraled as A became a little deranged.

I’m not saying I caused K and A’s problems, but the way K fixated on me made everything worse between them. A started feeling like he wasn't needed anymore or was not useful for K and how A always treats K like he is his king but K kinda treats him horribly. It’s been awkward ever since, and I feel like 99% sure I had something to do with it.

So yeah. I know this sounds like I’m some kinda villain in a high school drama, but honestly, I didn’t mean for any of this to happen. I didn’t want to come between N and M, I didn’t want to make things worse between R and S, and I sure as hell didn’t want to mess up what was going on with K and A. It just… happened. Maybe I shouldn’t have gotten involved in all these situations, but it’s hard when you’re just trying to do your best at a sport you love and suddenly, your actions have consequences you didn’t even realize.

If anyone has any advice on how to fix things or even just how to not make it worse, I’d appreciate it.

(Also, in case you’re wondering: No, I’m not the reason N left M. It was a team decision I swear.)

NTA. You didn't mean to as there was a bunch of miscommunication between the two parties or the relationship was kinda toxic.

What in the K-Drama is this. Are you the mc or something because this is crazy. Like how do you even accidentally ruin 3 of your teammates' relationships.

This seems kinda familiar….

You should probably try to avoid them but since they are your teammates, try not to agitate them too much or try to minimise your interaction if you are still not in good relations.
