Pyrrhic Victory

Summary:

“I hate him.”

Shoto looked at Yvaine as if she'd grown two heads. “You hate All Might? You?” It was written all over his face, how could anyone hate All Might?

“He didn't save my mother.”

“Didn't or couldn't?”

“Does that matter?”

She looked ahead, as she always did. Scoffing, she pointed towards a poster of Endeavour, raised brow that told him he should understand her.

“They are not the same.”

Then, she laughed and threw him off. “Well, we might be, the same I mean. Daddy issues and all.”

Born to shoulder the weight of a legacy, Yvaine Idalia must claw her way out of the rubble.

“The most admirable reason for someone to be a hero is because they want to save others, the most common too. Some do it for money, some do it for fame or to continue the family legacy. Is it a crime that I do it because it's expected of me?”

Notes:

Forgive the errors, its not beta read and mostly updated at leisure by a broke college student in pre-med whos supposed to be studying instead. Thanks for giving my story a try.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

How did All Might fall in love?

He'd been asked that question, hounded, for months after his private life was revealed. Before he had debuted, none really cared and yet at the height of his popularity it seemed he was the world's next best entertainment.

Still, how did he fall in love?

He avoided the question but truthfully, he would ask himself and he wouldn't know either.

"I just did. I don't know how, or when. But I did."

"Aw, that is very touching." The interviewer was starry eyed as she rattled off to coax more answers.

"You must feel very lucky All Might. Marrying a member of the Idalia family and all. Or maybe Lady Idalia is lucky."

"We both are," Toshinori answered quickly, smiling, not the grin he would wear. Toshinori's smile not All Might's. "But, I confess, I feel luckier. I'm blessed to have my wife."

"Or she's lucky to be the wife of the number one hero-"

"No. She's been with me from the beginning. Before I even became All Might. I'd say, this number one hero wouldn't be number one without her."

He could see the forced smile on the interviewers face, thankfully, they weren't live. He was barely holding his tongue.

"And," he continued, "do not forget, my wife too, is a pro hero."

The interviewer grinned and spoke, quipped, almost barbed. "Ah, wasn't the Idalia family suddenly banned from the hero profession-"

"Miss," All Might said in warning, pressing his tone. He didn't continue, just stared her down. Her eyes shook, she understood- it was crossing the line.

She cleared her throat and smiled, professional and bright. "Right, oh, we heard you and your wife are expecting?" Her redirect wasn't clean still, what was said earlier could be edited out.

He smiled, soft and almost teary, his large hands clenching into fists as he couldn't throw his hands up to declare to the world how happy he was.

      "Yes. Yes, we are."

"Congratulations, All Might. You seem joyous."

"Ha!" His booming laughter resounded in the studio. "Joy cannot describe the way I feel. Our daughter-" Gasps rang out among the crew.

"My daughter is the greatest gift and blessing I will ever receive. I would give my life to protect her, her existence in this world is incomparable to anything."

And yet, fourteen years later Toshinori Yagi has not seen or talked to his daughter for eight years.

Just like that, as All Might's might faded to the world, so did memory his wife and only child.
