Chapter Text
Latvia is having a horrible day.
He woke up later than usual that morning, had to scrub the kitchen floors clean with only a toothbrush, spilled the bucket of water he was using, and then had to scrub again! Worst of all, Mr. Russia walked in and now he probably thinks he was slacking off!
So, now he’s sitting out here.
Latvia grabbed at the snow on the ground rolling it up into a ball in his hands.
This sucks.
Why did he have to deal with all this torture? Why does everyone else get to be free but him? Latvia thinks of Sealand, one of his only friends. He lives a nice life. With parents who love him, toys to play with, not having to be scared every day, no chores to do, and people who adore him. Why can’t he have the same thing?!
Latvia clenches the snowball in his hand.
Only Lithuania would care if he got hurt! Sealand doesn’t understand what it’s like, nobody does!
Latvia throws the ball of snow as hard as he can into the vast wilderness in front of him.
“Ow!”
His ears perk up. What was that?
Latvia slowly gets up from the ground, wiping off any snow left on his legs, as he waddles towards the trees. He looks around for the source of the noise.
“Hello? Is there someone out there?”
The sound of ruffling echoes through the forest and a girl pops her head out from behind a tree. Her blond hair blanketed in snow.
Latvia almost immediately recognized her. She had large bug-like green eyes and a long rufflely pink dress. It was Liechtenstein. Latvia felt his blood circulating to his face as he stared wide eyed at the girl. She was so pretty. He glanced at the snow on her head for a moment. How did that get there?
Wait a minute-
“Did I hit you with that snowball?! I’m so sorry!”
“It is okay.”
It wasn’t okay. At least not to him. Liechtenstein did nothing wrong and he attacked her with a snowball. He wouldn’t be surprised if she hates him forever now.
“I can shake it off, see?”
Liechtenstein shakes her head, propelling the snow away.
Latvia couldn’t help but think she is too kind for her own good.
“Why are you here.”
Liechtenstein stared at him for a moment. Was that too blunt? Think before you speak Latvia!
“I was going on a walk. The forest is so nice.”
She smiled.
Latvia turned his eyes away and looked out into the trees. He could never enjoy the snow-covered green leaves and quiet nature just outside his house, but now he imagines having a nice stroll through it with Liechtenstein in a world where it’s not surrounded by dark memories.
“Yeah... it does seem nice.”
Latvia and Liechtenstein gaze off into the trees. He glances at her and then down at her hand. What if he…
Latvia’s hand inched closer to Liechtenstein when suddenly he feels a heavy weight drop onto his shoulder. He freezes in place. Did Mr. Russia come to find him? Is he going to get in trouble? What about Liechtenstein?!
Latvia’s eyes turn upwards at the hand on his shoulder and is met with not the imposing figure of Mr. Russia’s smiling face but the imposing figure of Switzerland’s scowling face.
Liechtenstein looks up to her older brother with what Latvia thinks is surprise.
“Big brother?”
He looks over to his sister, staring at her in silence and removing his hand from Latvia’s shoulder.
“Go do your homework.”
Switzerland responded matter of factly to his little sister. Liechtenstein pauses for a moment before nodding.
Latvia shivers at the mere presence of Switzerland. He has to be mad at him. He had to have seen him try to hold her hand. He’s going to get beat up for the sixth time this week and its only Monday!
Switzerland looks at him, his hand starting to rise. Here it comes. Latvia prepares himself, the least he could do is not flinch. Maybe Liechtenstein could see past how much of a loser he is if he can show her, he’s brave enough to take the hit.
It’s happening.
Any moment now.
…
Latvia opened his eyes to be met with Switzerland waving at him.
Oh.
Liechtenstein had followed her brother and waved as well. Both of them slowly fading off into the distance.
Latvia stared blankly, giving a weak wave back.
He seemed to have forgotten about everything else, including the time.
“Wait what?”
Latvia looked up at the sky to find that the sun is setting just over the horizon.
“AH! I need to get back before someone notices!”
Then Latvia sprinted off into the direction of Mr. Russia’s house, still pondering on that quiet moment he shared with Liechtenstein.
