    Summary

Even the most sharp-eyed apothecary can miscalculate.

Maomao prided herself on logic, observation, and the ability to diagnose what others overlooked. She could detect poison from a single sip and identify illness from the faintest discoloration of skin. Yet when it came to her own body, she missed the most obvious truth of all. Our Maomao still has a lot to learn.

Luckily, not every mistake ends in tragedy.

    Summary

Back at the estate, Maomao had scooted off to the small servants room she's been given and pulled the hair stick out, laying it flat across her palms. The wings the capped its end were terribly distorted, indented with a deep crater that bulged the metal and stretched it thin. It no longer laid straight, and lacked any polished spot, cloudy with time and neglect. She had never considered its details before, when it had been hers. As she had traced the wing's edge, she hopes that seeing it again means they served their purpose.

The thought crossed her mind she should return it to Jinshi. Instead Maomao reached into an inner pocket of her robe, and removed an unremarkable velveteen sleeve. Tucking it inside, she heard the clink of metal as it makes contact with its poppy adorned successor. He had never expected that one back either, and so she carried it with her carefully all these years, always out of sight

or Maomao finally gets her hair stick back and returns it to Jinshi.

In the glow of golden lights on the night streets of Paris, a lone man stands above, burdened by his existance as a nation and watching all the human lives below. Wondering if they really have it better, to live a short yet fulfilling life..

After all, they do say 'till death do us part', dont they?

    Summary

People promise to marry when spring arrives
    because surely, when spring comes,
when the earth grows lively, when young rice shoots green the fields,
the lovers will be joined together.

    But people do not promise
when this voyage is over, I’ll marry you,
because who can be sure the skies will stay calm and the seas peaceful,
who can be sure the one who leaves will return home safely,
and so people do not promise,
and so whatever wishes to be said must be spoken with all one’s heart...
