Work Text:

Christmas morning is always something special for Izuku and Katsuki, gift giving is something they adore, and they always try to top each other’s presents. When Kosuke and Izumi were born, it became competitive solely between them while they spoiled their twins together. They’d adopted the littles when their parents were killed in a villain attack that Izuku had assisted Katsuki and other heroes on. It took a while to ensure nobody else could step in for the three-day old twins, but when there was nobody except for Izuku and Katsuki, they were officially given the small twins.

They’re turning two in just a couple of months, and Izuku can’t wait to give them the little walkers and merch stuff that he and Katsuki got from all of their friends. But the biggest one is the kitten that the twins saw at the cat cafe when they went out for lunch to celebrate Hitoshi’s return from a six-month undercover mission. It was three weeks ago, and it took Izuku and Katsuki two days to decide whether they were going to adopt the kitten for the twins, but when they made the decision, they immediately went to Shota and Hizashi for help because Hitoshi and Eijirou ended up taking a vacation.

Shota and Hizashi offered to house the kitten until Christmas for them, and they went and did some shopping so the kids could open gifts to give the kitten as well. Thank god for their mentors.

That’s the gift that they’re most excited to give, and Shota and Hizashi are going to be coming to drop the kitten off specifically to add to the surprise in the morning.

“Stop pacing, Zu, it’s gonna be fuckin’ great,” says Katsuki as he comes back to the living room after the twins were officially sleeping.

“I know, I just– Are we ready for this, Kacchan? I know I’m continuing teaching, only patrolling when you’re off, and they bounce between UA and the nursery in the Agency, but… Are we ready to add a cat to the mix? Will they do well with the kitten? Will the kitten do well with them?” Izuku’s overthinking, and he knows he is because the twins did so well with the kitten at the cafe. He knows the twins do well with animals because everyone has at least one, mostly cats because of course, and everyone has talked about how sweet they are with their furbabies.

So, he knows he’s overthinking it.

“Zu, stop overthinking,” says Katsuki with an amused tone as he walks over to tug him onto his lap as he sits down on their soft green couch. “You know the twins did really well with the kitten when we were at the cafe, enough so that the workers were cooing at them and talking about how they’re doing the best they’ve seen any littles do with their cats. They’re constantly playing and cuddling with the cats within our dumbass friend groups too. It’s going to be fine, and we will be able to handle having a cat, I fuckin’ promise. Wouldn’t have agreed if I didn’t think we could.”

“True, you’re right, Kacchan,” says Izuku with a sigh as he curls himself against Katsuki’s chest. “It’s going to be great, and they’ll have fun with everything we got, not just the kitten. Can’t believe they’re finally at the point where they like ripping the wrapping paper themselves.”

“Our floor is going to be a fuckin’ mess, and it’s going to be perfect. I’ll have goggles’ cameras set up before we start too, so we can watch it later and get stills printed for the picture book. Now, can I kiss my husband, or do I have to wait a bit longer for that big brain of yours to cool off?” asks Katsuki amusedly as he gets a hand on Izuku’s cheek, thumb slipping to brush over the soft smile curving those sweet lips.

Izuku just lifts up and leans in, showing Katsuki just how much he loves him as he falls for him over and over again. They get lost in it, the kissing, as per usual, but eventually, they pull away from each other, swollen lips and hickeys down their necks. They head to bed for the night, stopping to check on the twins again when they think they hear a soft cry only to find them curled up on top of their blankets in their cribs still fast asleep.

When a cry screeches through the apartment, Izuku groans as sunlight filters through their curtains. He knows Katsuki is already up, mainly because the cry is cut off as soon as it wakes Izuku up, but also because his husband goes on his run first so that Izuku can get a bit more sleep before his own. Usually, Izuku will sleep as long as the twins sleep, then he’s up just before Katsuki gets back from his run and they switch off that way someone’s always with the twins, and they both get to go on their runs.

Though, today, he thought they’d agreed not to do their runs.

With that thought in mind, Izuku slips out of bed, yawning as he stretches his arms up high until his back arches and pops as he leaves the room. When he reaches the end of the hallway, he sees Izumi and Kosuke crawling around Katsuki as he sets up the camcorder, in a pair of sweats and nothing else.

“Ah, so you didn’t go running,” says Izuku as he announces his presence. He coos when Izumi starts frantically crawling towards him before lifting and bouncing on her knees all the way to him, grabby hands in full force as her chunky little arms lift. “Well, hello there, Izumi, good morning to you too. Are you ready to open your presents, baby girl?”

Izumi gurgles out a, “Dada,” and laughs when Izuku snorts at her, and then Katsuki’s approaching with Kosuke on his shoulders.

“This one tried to get into the presents as soon as I got him out of bed since he woke up earlier than normal,” says Katsuki as he adjusts Kosuke until he’s off his shoulders, belly flat against his palm while his feet kick against his chest. “He almost got into the one I got you, but I managed to save the mini tear that he created. Now, that little miss right there, decided she was going to attempt to climb out of her bed while I was changing Kosuke. They’re terrors already, Zu.”

“Not my babies,” says Izuku before chuckling as he looks between the twins. “You two are already drivin’ Papa up the wall with your curiosity and escape attempts, huh? I thought we talked about you giving him a rest before scaring the living daylights outta him.”

“Like I said, they’re terrors,” chuckles Katsuki as the twins giggle in their arms. “Anyway, I have the presents all set up, and breakfast is waiting in the kitchen. Zashi and Zawa are coming over in about an hour, I already called to check on them.”

“Sweet, okay, let’s eat breakfast and see if we can keep these two babies occupied until Zawa and Zashi get here,” says Izuku happily as he bounces on his toes, making Izumi giggle with a childish glee that makes his heart sing.

“Still can’t believe you promised to let them watch our babies open their gifts this year,” huffs Katsuki with an eye roll, even though he’s the one who pointed out that they should just come spend the morning with them after they do their own gift giving. “Let me get these two settled in their chairs, and then I’ll help you bring out the food.”

“You don’t get to huff about them coming over when you brought it up first, just so you know, and besides, you want to have all of our friends over when we go to our parents’ place tomorrow to exchange gifts,” grumbles Izuku to himself as he passes Izumi over to Katsuki, pouting when he gets a smirk in return.

“You wanted to figure out how to bring all of our friends and our parents together, so I don’t wanna hear you complaining,” replies Katsuki amusedly as he takes Izumi and heads for their little high chairs that sit on the ground.

Izuku huffs under his breath and turns to head to the kitchen, depriving himself of watching Katsuki be adorable as he latches their babies into their high chair seats because he’s annoyed with his husband. Even hearing Katsuki coo at Izumi and Kosuke doesn’t stop him from making his way into the kitchen to start making their plates. He quickly makes the Twins’ plates first before getting to work on his and Katsuki’s, loving that they’re having chocolate chip pancakes and hot cocoa with milk for their babies. Of course, there’s fruit as well because Katsuki refuses to eat sweet food without healthy food, but still, chocolate chip pancakes and hot cocoa seems to be another tradition that they’re starting.

“Zu, baby, are you still being huffy with me?” asks Katsuki in a low tone as his arms wrap around Izuku’s waist.

“No, not really, since we’re both right about the situations,” murmurs Izuku as he leans back against Katsuki’s firm chest, head falling back to rest right under his husband’s throat.

They fit perfectly together, their height difference working sweetly to their advantage as Izuku’s hair makes up the difference between Katsuki’s chin and his head. It’s easy to just enjoy being held in Katsuki’s arms, feeling his chin against his head, feeling him dip back so he can press a kiss to Izuku’s curls as his arms squeeze around him lightly. But, as always, their little moment is interrupted by a burst of giggles and indiscernible words from their twins. Izuku snickers into his hand as Katsuki snorts.

“We should probably go see what those two little terrors are gigglin’ about,” murmurs Katsuki with a fond tone filled with amusement that curls his lips in a half-grin.

“You can carry their food, and I’ll come with ours, okay?” offers Izuku with a wide smile as he turns with the twins’ little plates in hand, an Eraserhead one and a Nighthide one because Zawa and Hito are their favorite heroes.

“Sounds like a plan, Zu,” replies Katsuki softly as he takes the plates before leaning in to give him a quick peck. “Don’t take too long, we’re watchin’ All Might Cartoons, Zumi said Mi’ Mi’ was the pick for the day.”

“Sounds perfect,” says Izuku with a soft smile as Katsuki winks before turning to head out of the kitchen.

He chuckles to himself as he finishes setting up their own plates, hearing Katsuki say, “Now, what are you two troublemakers gigglin’ for in here, huh?”

Izuku follows in time to see the twins share a look and burst into giggles again as Katsuki sets their plates on their tray. His husband shakes his head, snorting as Izumi and Kosuke keep giggling like they can’t stop, but when Katsuki grabs their cups and sets them in their little cupholders, the twins seem to realize that breakfast is served. Izuku giggles as he walks over to the couch, watching as Izumi grabs her little pancake triangle and immediately tries to feed Katsuki while her other hand shoves two others into her own mouth. Meanwhile, Kosuke is practically face-planting into his food to eat. He’s got a big appetite, but he’s also just as quick to stop eating after six bites. It’s a bit difficult to discern, so they always give him about twelve bites, with several left over just in case he decides he’s still hungry. Katsuki nudges the bite back towards Izumi as she grabs another two, and then she decides she’s going to shove all three little triangle bites into her mouth at once.

“We’ve got some big eaters on our hands, do you see these two?” asks Katsuki with an amused shake of his head.

“Oh please, you ate more than they do when you were their age. Remember what Mitsuki said? You used to eat three pancakes cut into bits and still try to sneak some from their plates. We only give them one to start, and two if they’re particularly hungry,” Izuku nudges Katsuki as he settles on the couch next to him with a teasing smile before he passes over his plate of pancakes and fruit.

“True,” An amused huff falls from Katsuki’s lips as he leans forward to grab the tv remote and press play. “But their curiosity is definitely on you, just so we’re clear.”

“Oh, for sure, I’m already going insane with how curious they are,” laughs Izuku easily because yeah, he’s the curious one who has to get answers. He knows the twins are going to be just as bad as him when it comes to that because he hasn’t changed a bit. “But shush, they’re already distracted by the show, so we should eat quickly and make sure everything’s all set up before Zawa and Zashi get here.”

“You got a point,” mutters Katsuki as he starts cutting into his pancakes. “I still have to get their shitty presents out of our closet and set up the other camcorder.”

“I’ll set up the camcorder if you grab those presents and throw on your papa elf shirt,” says Izuku with a challenging grin as he arches a brow.

“Yeah, alright, but only because you’re fuckin’ adorable,” replies Katsuki with a shake of his head, feigning annoyance at having to put on the elf shirt that Izuku got him when he got the official adoption papers and the clear that they’d get the twins as soon as they filed them.

“Hey, I’m wearing the dada elf shirt that you got me, so it’s only fair,” says Izuku as he gets a bite of pancake covered in whipped cream and lifts it to his mouth.

“Whatever, eat your whipped cream,” mutters Katsuki as he nods towards the bite that looks like whipped cream instead of pancake.

Izuku rolls his eyes as they both quiet down and start eating properly so they can finish with their set up, cooing to themselves when the twins try to copy All Might’s moves on the screen. As soon as they’re done, Katsuki takes their plates as he heads towards the bedroom while Izuku tugs out the second camcorder and sets it up by the tree to give two different views. Katsuki’s just coming out with the presents when there’s a light knock on their door, and Izuku quickly presses the record button on both camcorders, catching the presents that Katsuki tosses to him, and he gets them under the tree just as the door opens to reveal Aizawa and Hizashi holding a carefully decorated cat crate and a box that’s wrapped up neatly.

“Merry Christmas, where are my future problem children?” asks Aizawa with an arched brow before he tilts his head and the twins squeal and slap their hands excitedly on their trays. “Are they watching All Might again?”

“Of course, they are,” replies Katsuki with a smirk as he tugs the door wide open and throws his arm out. “Come on in, they’re gonna be excited to see you.”

“What am I? Chopped liver?” Hizashi’s voice is loud enough to tug Izumi’s attention and she starts making grabby hands.

When Hizashi reaches her, she grabs at his hands and tries to lift herself out of the high tray chair as though she’s not strapped in.

“Get her outta there before she manages to upend herself again,” says Izuku with a sigh as he shakes his head. “Hope she ate enough.”

“Her plate’s empty, kid,” calls Shota as he leans down to help Hizashi get Izumi out, only to be sidetracked by a tug on his black sweater from Kosuke who starts pouting at him. “Problem children.”

Hearing his fond voice makes Izuku melt as Katsuki gets the door closed and comes over to stand with him. They watch their former sensei’s pick their kids up out of their high chairs, watching as their babies get all happy and giggly as they poke and wiggle against them.

“They’re so adorable,” coos Hizashi softly as he wiggles his fingers against Izumi’s side, making her shriek with laughter as she tries to scoot away from him, only to curl back towards those same fingers when they stop moving. “We made it before they opened their presents, right?”

“Of course we did,” says Shota with an eye roll as he swings Kosuke gently in his arms, being careful since he’d just ate. “They said we’d get to watch ‘em.”

“And you do, but only if you sit your asses down,” huffs Katsuki with a shake of his head.

“Ignore his huffiness, he thinks this is as adorable as I do,” says Izuku as he nudges Katsuki in the side, snorting when he gets an eye roll in response. “We have gifts for you too, so of course we waited.”

“Oh, you two didn’t have to do that,” says Hizashi seriously as he looks up while Shota makes his way to the couch.

“I told them that already and got told to shove it, so just say thank you, Zashi,” says Shota with a snort as he settles with Kosuke, tickling him gently when those pudgy little fingers press against him in a mock tickle movement.

“Alright, let’s do this,” says Katsuki when Hizashi looks like he’s going to object again.

“You’re getting presents, Zashi, so don’t argue,” huffs Izuku petulantly before he turns to grab presents, handing them to Katsuki to pass out.

Kosuke and Izumi are let down on the ground when the presents start getting passed around, both twins scrambling to reach their piles when Katsuki says, “Hey, terrors, your presents are right here.”

Izuku giggles even as he has to quickly reach his hand out to stop Kosuke’s head from smacking into the coffee table as he sits up in an attempt to stand. When all of the presents are passed out, and the twins are sitting in front of their piles, all bets are off as Katsuki and Izuku put a present in front of them. They know that hiding the kitten for all of their presents won’t work, so they picked out one that they knew the twins would be super excited for before they’d bring the cat crate over to let the little furball out.

When they pull out small plushies of Hitoshi and Denki, Kosuke and Izumi squeal so loud that Katsuki scrunches his nose while Izuku laughs happily. Happily chanting “Hito Plush,” and “Den Plush,” as loud as they could.

“See, this is why they’re terrors,” says Katsuki as he shakes his head, a fond smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “Alright, little ones, there’s a special surprise in the crate.”

He carefully tugs it over, but it takes maybe two moves before Izumi is rushing over saying, “KitKit,” joined quickly by her brother’s “Cat,” chants.

Izuku moves to join them, carefully opening the crate while Katsuki holds onto the twins so they’ll let the little furball come out on her own. The kitten takes a moment, peeking her pale face out, little pink nose twitching as she takes in all the smells, but then she makes her way out and curls up in front of the twins, slowly blinking blue eyes at them.

Izumi moves first, carefully putting her pudgy fingers in front of the furball’s nose, bouncing excitedly when that nose bumps into her fingers before fur meets fingertips. Izumu scoots closer to pet carefully, moving slowly even as she grins with victory, then Kosuke moves towards the kitten, slow and uncertain. Izuku meets Katsuki’s eyes, brows arching in tandem because this kitten came running straight up to Kosuke as soon as they got into the cafe, but now, Kosuke seems uncertain. But the minute Kosuke’s hand is in reach, the kitten gets her head under his hand without sniffing his fingers, a soft purr rumbling through her and making Izumi gasp in surprise.

“Purr, KitKit purrs!” says Izumi excitedly, eyes sparkling as she turns to look at Izuku.

“My cat,” says Kosuke with a proud hum as he pets her head softly.

“Both of yours,” says Katsuki with a knowing tone as he leans forward so Kosuke can see him.

“Both ours,” Kosuke says it with a nod, but his lips curve down into a pout that makes Izuku clap a hand over his mouth to keep from laughing.

“So, like, are we sure they don’t have your DNA running through them? Because, like, they look exactly like you, act exactly like you. That pout is on Katsuki’s face at least nine times a day when the media interrupts your conversations,” says Hizashi as he starts chuckling when Kosuke turns his head away from Katsuki.

“You know damn well we’re sure, and we visit their birth parents' graves on their death day,” grumbles Katsuki as he glowers at them, lips downturned.

“That right there is just another reason why it seems like they have your blood running through them,” says Shota with a half-smirk as he nods at Katsuki, snorting when Katsuki’s lips press into a thin line. “We know they’re your babies, we know your plan for telling them about their parents, and we know that they’re going to have all of your traits even if they don’t have your blood. Doesn’t change the fact that they’re literally perfect mirror-images of you two.”

“Okay, you’re not wrong, but we’ve double checked everything to make sure that we weren’t losing our minds. Our first worry was a quirk thing when Mitsuki showed us how similar Kosuke looks to Kacchan, but we know the truth,” replies Izuku with a soft smile, sadness aching in his chest even as he thinks of how fate must’ve intertwined their lives for this exact reason.

“Pwesents! Mowe pwesents!” Izumi turns towards Katsuki with a pout on her face as she takes her tiny fists and slams ‘em down against her own legs, putting more than enough space between herself and the kitten to avoid startling her.

The rest of the morning is spent with the twins opening their gifts, then getting distracted by the kitten who eventually gets named Patchy because of the brown and tan spots that decorated her white fur. It’s spent watching Zawa and Zashi open their gifts. Some records to go along with a vintage record player that was exactly like the first one Zashi had owned as well as an appointment with Mei to try out a new prosthetic for Zawa.

By the time lunch comes around and passes, they’ve put on Home Alone and ordered a mix of meals from the diner a couple blocks away because they’re doing a marathon, even though Zawa has complained about Katsuki’s inability to stop grumbling about other ways the kids could cause trouble for the burglars. It’s a perfect Christmas with their kids, their new cat, and two of their most important mentors.
