At first Claire was certain she was hallucinating, or seeing a goddamn ghost–either one made more sense than a dead woman standing in her bedroom, holding a picture frame. She’d raised her gun on reflex and lowered it just as quickly. “What the fuck, Ada?!”
“Claire.” The way she said Claire’s name… the amount of longing in it pierced Claire’s heart and made her furious all at once. “It’s good to see you.” Her dark eyes flicked over Claire’s form, from the oversized men’s t-shirt she wore to bed to her bare legs and back up to her face. “You look well.”
“You look like shit.” Claire wasn’t just saying it because she was reeling and vindictive; Ada seemed like she’d been through hell, and recently. “A part of me wants to shoot you, you know.”
Ada’s full lips quirked; not for the first time, Claire wondered what they tasted like. “I’d let you.”
