Work Text:

Haruaki slowly twirled a candy cane between his fingers, observing it closely. He nodded to himself before grabbing many more candy canes and sticking them into his basket. He then checked them out of the convenience store and continued his way up to the school, humming as he did.

“Hello, you guys~!”

He happily skipped into the teacher’s lounge and set his bag down, ignoring the various groans he was met with. Miki watched him mill about, gathering his stuff up to head off to his class.

“...Abe-san, how is it that you have so much energy in the morning?”

Haruaki leaned down and smiled at his brightly. “Just my excitement for the day!”

“Urgh, right…”

Haruaki hummed and continued on his way to his class, carrying a shopping bag alongside him. Miki watched him, slightly cocking an eyebrow but simply grabbed his own items and made his way to his class.

“Hello you all~!” He walked into the classroom, smiling at all of the students. “How was your guys’ weekend?”

They all groaned and Haruaki vaguely recalled hearing about an incident in the dorm over the weekend that seemed to last for a long while so he simply chuckled and set the bag down on the stand.

“Well, that sounds like a kind of rough thing… but, I may have something to make it a tad better. Everyone, close your eyes!”

They all glanced between each other but reluctantly followed, and Haruaki went throughout the desks, setting a candy cane on each one. They were each personalized to every student, with different colors that matched them. When he was finished he returned to the front and stuck one into his own mouth.

“Alright, you can open them up!”

They all did and looked around for a moment before looking downwards. Kuniko picked hers up and hummed quietly.

“Is this because the stores are selling them at a discount?” She flipped it over.

“No! Well, that did make them more affordable, but I bought them so that you’d all have a nice treat in this class!” He smiled brightly at them. “And you guys aren’t the only ones who I got them for. I also got some for the other teachers.”

Sano nodded and unwrapped it. “...This was nice, Seimei.” He stuck it in his mouth.

Haruaki beamed and watched each of them enjoy their candy canes and hummed around his own. He wondered if his friends would enjoy them as much as his students did. The rest of the lesson went on as normal. Occasionally Haruaki noticed the students trading different bits of their candy canes with ech other to give it a try.

“Mission accomplished successfully~”

“What’re you so joyous about?”

He turned and saw Miki in his doorway and beamed at him. “Hello Rintarou! How was your class? Everything going well?”

“Yes, yes, everything’s fine. What did you send off your students off with, Haruaki?” He stepped into the classroom, noticing the wrappers around. “And… do you plan on cleaning that up~?” He snickered.

Haruaki took a glance and sighed. “I suppose I will… oh, but.” He reached into his bag. “Close your eyes, Rintarou!”

Miki watched him and slowly closed his eyes. “Alright…”

“Hold out your hand for me.”

Miki reached his hand out. “Alright…”

Something was slipped into his hand and he cocked an eyebrow and tried to figure it out. Maybe it was a pencil or something similar. It was thin and hard, and yet… he couldn’t figure out exactly what it was.

“Okay, you can open them!”

He slowly opened his eyes and looked down, and saw a colorful, rainbow colored candy cane in his hand. He looked back up at Haruaki, who was smiling brightly at him.

“...You got them candy canes?”

“Yep! And you and Izuna and some of the other teachers!”

Miki looked at it before unwrapping the treat and sticking it in his mouth. It felt like a cigarette, but without the smoke and… danger to Haruaki. He smiled softly.

“Well then… thank you very much. Here, I’ll help you clean up, okay?”

“Thanks!”

As Haruaki went to begin cleaning up, Miki glanced at the rest in his bag. They were all the standard type of candy canes… meaning Haruaki picked out the rainbow one especially for Miki. He felt his face heat up at the realization and simply went to help him pick up the wrappers. Haruaki didn’t need to know that Miki was aware of the personalized candy cane for him.

“Oh, and Rintarou…”

He looked over at him. “Yes?”

“Try not to tell the others I gave you a colorful one.” He gently bumped him with his hips. “It’ll be our little secret, yeah?”

Miki watched him before smiling and whispering, “Our little secret it shall be.”

They finished and made their way to the teacher’s lounge, exchanging different pieces of their own candy canes.
