Yuri wasn’t a big fan of birthdays. She saw little use in celebrating them and thus, didn’t really celebrate her own. If it was someone who she cared about and who liked their birthday, she would often go out of her way to celebrate it if they asked, but when it came to herself… she usually just enjoyed a nice card, a small cupcake, and a well wish.
So… this was a bit much for her.
“Happy birthday, Renjou!”
A popper was set off in her face and she jumped back, seeing all of the girls of Class 2-3 sitting in the classroom. She had been called there by Kuniko during lunch and she realized why. She smighed softly, but a small smile crossed her face as she sat down.
“Ah… thank you, you all.” She looked down at the small presents she had been handed and glanced aside. “...This is very nice.”
Se counted the amount of gifts and was able to tell that she got a gift from every one of the girls… aside from two. Kuniko gave her a card and Koizumi had given her nothing. While she didn’t mind, she was a bit curious.
Not showing any of her curiosity, she continued listeneing to them and thanking them for each of the presents. New outfits, makeup… a death summoning doll… she was setitng that aside for the time being.
“Um… Koizumi, may I ask you something?”
“Hm?” She turned and smiled at Yuri softly. “Yeah, go ahead.”
“Not that I mind.. But may I ask why you didn’t give me a gift?”
Koizumi blushed softly and rubbed the back of her head. She turned away and chuckled softly. “Ahh.. I recall you telling me that you didn’t really like celebrating your birthday.” She reached down and grabbed her hand. “So…” She leaned over and kissed her cheek. “That’s your little gift, okay?”
Yuri blushed brightly and looked away. “Um… that’s fine. I enjoyed it.”
“Well… I’m glad you enjoyed it. I just wanted you to enjoy today… despite what the others wanted to do for your birthday. So…”
Yuri kissed her. “Thank you, Koizumi.”
“Of course.”
