Work Text:
It has been a week since chase started feeling unwell It started out as just a normal cough, that refused to go away and only got worse and worse. Chase assumed he just has a dry throat but the cough never went away...
“Boys! I’m going to the store need anything?” The elder man called walking into the kitchen
Deacon turned his head from his poorly hidden book to look at the man “I’m good grandpa” he replied looking over at the blonde
Chase was sat at the table trying to eat while coughing “just cough sweets for me maybe some of that err cough syrup thing” he added
“That cough still hasn’t gone away” the grandpa asked worry in his voice
“I’m fine it’s just a co-“ he said coughing before he could finish his sentence
The elderly man look concerned but didn’t push it further and agreed to get the cough sweets and left the house leaving the boys alone. Deacon watched as his cousin struggled to eat in between coughing worry in his eyes
“Chase... this cough has lasted a week, are you sure you’re okay?” He asks with concern
“I don’t know Dorkin, you’re the doctor in training you tell me?!” The blonde replies sarcastically
The brunette just stared at him unimpressed and still very much concerned “I’m just worried about you” he replies
“I know, I know I’m fine Dorkin, it’s just a cough it’ll pass... eventually” he said staring at his bowl with determination in his eyes clearly ready to fight his coughing for a bite of his oat meal
Deacon continued to watch his cousin worry clearly on his face but he knew just how stubborn the blonde could be so there really was no good in fighting chase would only end up coming up with excuses.
“Are you sure you’re okay to be doing books today” the brunette says watching the blonde climb the ladder
“Again I’m fineeeee” the blonde whined
“Okay, okay just making sure” Deacon replies not fully convinced
“Ah chase dear how’s the cough?” silver asks placing her knitting down to look at the blonde
“slightly better I think but I well enough to do books!” The blonde says proudly before bending over in a coughing fit
“hmm I’m not too convinced” Bronze adds walking next to his sister who also has worry in her eyes
“I agree chase we can have today off if you need” she says
“What? No I’m fine and anyways I can’t afford any more days off my mum isn’t going to get any better I need to do this for her!!” He argued
“Okay chase calm down we’ll do the book just... if you need to leave okay?” The brunette adds joining in the conversation
“fine...” the blonde says walking to the pile off books
They grab a book and head into the book yet another version of Cinderella, as the story goes on chases coughing doesn’t slow down or stop instead it only got worse
“there you are, brat” the goth said while walking up to the coughing blonde “you alright? You’re not sick again, are you??” He adds
“no, no... buddy I’m fine just... just a cough” the blonde says weakly
“Hmm alright then” the goth says straightening his back “then hurry up you have a book to complete” he adds turning on his heal and walking off
As the book continues chase’s coughing only got worse this time it felt like he couldn’t breathe like something was blocking his throat. Chase was walking to meet deacon for the next part when he suddenly started coughing this time a lot worse than before he fell to the ground hitting his knees hard against the wooden floor but that didn’t hurt as much as whatever was blocking his throat.
Once his coughing had come to an end, he noticed something red on his hand... blood the blonde started panicking 'it’s not real right?' He thought standing up he walked towards the kitchen and washed his hands
"I'm fine it will pass" he told himself hoping he was fine
It in fact didn’t pass. Instead only getting worse they eventually finished the story and chase had to ignore the worried look on his cousins face when they arrived home
“dude you, okay? You look worse than before we went into the book...” he said concern and worry in his voice
“Yeah... I’m all good just need some rest...” the blonde looked away he didn’t want to see the pity in his cousin’s eyes
Deacon just nodded and said his byes to the keys before leaving the room Chase told silver about what happened in the book but leaving out all his coughing and the blood... Once he had finished, he headed to bed hoping that would help
Chase kept telling himself he was fine but his coughing only got worse by the day and the days turned into weeks but he was still coughing this time petals and blood the petals where a cool icy blue colour it’s a shame they were covered in his crimson blood
Chase had decided to do some research about it finding out he shares the symptoms of Hanahaki disease... which help him realise he was in fact in love with buddy and was never going to be loved back after all the man hated him... but chase didn’t want the surgery either the thought of losing all feelings for buddy the good and bad didn’t sit right with him and after all they didn’t have enough for both his mums treatment and his surgery...
So he kept it to himself pretending he was fine. He had to be... for his mum he needs to for his mum if he can’t help her who will... he doesn’t want to lose her but one thought never crossed his mind either he tried not to believe it or think of it but he was dying himself how would his mother feel losing her only child? He never let himself think it but deep down he knew... and he wasn’t trying to stop it...
Deacon walks into the room and chase quickly throws away the blood covered tissue he was staring at in the bin “Okay so I’ve got some more simple books we can do” the brunette says placing the books down
“If your well enough that is” he adds deacon has been noticing how un well his cousin is and how weak he looks
“I’m fine Dorkin, we need to do this... for mum” the blonde says standing up
“Chase dear it’s okay if you want to sit this one out deacon could go in on his own” silver adds with bronze nodding in agreement
“No... silver I have to do this please...” he begs
The little key sighs “very well, but if at any time you feel to sick, please call it a day and come home” she adds
Chase nods but he isn’t keeping any promises he needs to do this for his mum they grabbed the keys and with a flash headed into the book deacon had chosen a simple tale of a girl who works for the evil empress but married her son and brings the empress to justice getting her arrested for all her crimes
“Okay here’s your notes your first scene is with buddy in the writing room and the notes will tell you the rest, okay?” He says looking at chase with worry
Chase hated the look of pity on his cousins face it wasn’t like he was going to die... well he was but not any time soon... right?
“Okay okay, I’m off now see you around Dorkin” the blonde finally says and turns to walk away
He arrived at the room and sore buddy sitting at the desk “took your time huh brat” the goth says turning to face the blonde “I’m surprised you didn’t get lost” he adds looking at chase
Now that he was looking at the blonde he noticed that his skin looked sickly and pale his usually bright brown eyes where dark, dull and baggy clearly tired he didn’t look well almost like he was fading away Buddy gulped
“a-are you... okay?” He asks catching the blonde off guard
“Y-yeah I’m f-“ before the blonde could finish talking a cough had taken over him he covered his mouth with a cloth he took out of his pocket
Buddy looked worried and rushed over to the blonde patting his back in the corner of his eye he sore blood come from the blondes mouth making him pull away the cloth to his shock there was blood along with petals on it buddy’s eyes widened in fear and worry and chase hated it he hated pity he hated people worrying about him but the cough didn’t stop his throat felt like it was closing up
Once he stopped buddy sat him down “Why didn’t you say anything you’ve had this cough for weeks and you didn’t once say blood was coming out along with petals why?!” Chase was confused why was buddy worried?
“It’s... not that big of a deal I’m... fine” he says as he feels his throat get tighter
Buddy notice how chase seemed to be struggling to breathe “Where’s your friend you need to go home” the goth adds
“No! no... I need to do this please...” the blonde begs his breathing getting weaker and more rapid his throat felt blocked and he couldn’t breathe maybe he had less time than he thought
“What’s going on with you chase” the goth asks
The blonde sighs “I have hanahaki...” he’s finally told someone after weeks of suffering alone he’s finally done it a little too late...
Buddy’s eyes widen “AND YOU DIDN’T TELL ANYONE THAT SHITS DEADLY!!” buddy yells more worried than angry
“I- I know...” is all the blonde could say
“who?” The goth asks “who is it you like? Is it your friend?” The goth adds
“No... Deacon is my cousin...” Chase says
“Oh... so who is it you like then?” buddy asks looking chase in the eyes
Chase smiles “you...” he says buddy’s face flushes with blush and shock but once the blonde passes out his expression is replaced with worry
“Chase?... CHASE?!” The goth starts worrying the blonde isn’t moving nor is he breathing tears run down his face “no no no no no shit no” buddy panics
“you idiot I love you too...” he adds but it’s too late the blonde left it too long and now he was gone... and buddy couldn’t do anything about it
