Work Text:
Chase wasn’t one for feeling down or at least not showing it to others but lately he’s been struggling with controlling his mind it’s never silent and always loud giving him headaches. Not to mention the voices at the back of his head that won’t go away no matter what, he tried listening to music I didn’t work. He tried singing it didn’t work. He tried everything he could think of and it never worked... the voice never left always saying the same thing...
Worthless, useless, dumb,
That’s all the voices whisper... so far, it’s just I the back of his mind but its slowly starting to take a toll on the blonde he’s finding it harder to ignore and push away... he’s been hearing these voices ever since his mum first got sick but lately they have only gotten worse he refuses to tell anyone he doesn’t want bother others with his issues when they too have problems of their own...
So he’s just resorted in keeping it to himself so far nobody’s noticed anything off with the blonde that was... until he met silver in her human key form that is she started noticing when he was feeling down at first, he would shake it of as nothing but he has started opening up to her slightly but he never told her about the voices... he’s too scared she’d thing he’s going insane or something but it did help to talk... although that didn’t help the voices stop... it only got worse...
He was currently sat on his bed staring into space trying, and failing, to ignore the voices they kept screaming in the back of his head begging to be heard to be listened to for him to believe what they said it never stopped he feared it never would constant screaming repeating the same thing over and over...
Worthless boy, dumb blonde, useless can’t even help your own mother
He pressed his knees to his chest and buried his head on top of his knees begging the voices to stop... why wouldn’t they stop? Why we’re they tormenting him? And what did he do to deserve it? So many questions but never any answers...
“Chase? Dear, are you alright” a small woman’s voice called out from beside him pulling him out of his mind
He lifted his head to look silver in the eyes “Yeah... just tired is all... don’t worry” he said lying through his teeth he hated lying but he hated people worrying about him more...
“Alright if you say so dear” she says flattering her silver skirt “Deacon was talking about going into a wonderful book this morning” she adds excitement in her voice
“huh? And what book is that?” He asks
“I believe the book was called sorrow roads it has a sad name but according to deacon the ending is happy!” she exclaimed
“sorrow roads...?” chase repeats “I’ll make sure to ask deacon about it...” he adds gaining a nod from silver
A while later deacon knocks on the door and wonders into the room, he immediately notices chase who is sitting on his bed with silver talking chase has his knees tucked to his chest and silver is sat on top of his left knee looking up at him as he talks to her deacon clears his throat with a cough catching the blondes attention
“Chase, are you ready to do a story?” The brunette asks
The blonde nods “Yeah, I am” he says allowing silver to climb onto his hand before slowly getting off his bed
The two climb up the loft ladder silver now sat onto chases shoulder once they are in the attic room Chase helps silver down reuniting her with her brothers,
“So what book are we doing?” Chase asks
“sorrow roads, its more on the sad side at the beginning but near to the end it gets better and ends with a happy ending” the brunette replies placing the book down
The blonde nods and allows silver to climb onto his hand as she shapes into her key form deacon dose the same with bronze once they are ready chase takes a deep breath and joins his cousin in entering the book with a flash
Once they entered the book chase immediately noticed the gloomy atmosphere, the sky was dark and dead like with only black and grey clouds cascading slowly in the sky begging to cry out their tears, the sun was hidden underneath the depression leaving a grey glow on the world. Chase turned his head and noticed everyone was wearing black matching the sad feel of the scene
He felt uncomfortable... he gulped hoping his thoughts weren’t true it can’t be... he was at a funeral but who’s? Past memories of his dad’s funeral threatening to flash in his mind sending him into a state of panic which he quickly shock off no he can’t panic now he needs to complete this book... for his mum
He looks over at deacon who is wearing a black suit with a slight apple print that you wouldn’t see unless looking for along with a white Button up with the top button undone and a grey tie loosely tied around his neck under the collar of his shirt that made him look to see his own outfit,
Which was also a black suit similar to deacons but with a skirt like tail coat at the back to reference he was the heroine it was a simple outfit but still beautiful in his eyes his suit however had the slight detail of flowers mainly roses that would be seen unless looking for the detail he approached silvers touch and would make sure to thank her
He looks back at deacon “Well this is... depressing” he says glancing at the many people crying by the casket
“Oh right... I forgotten mention it started with a funeral... we can go home if your uncomfortable and choose a different book” Deacon says
“No... no, it’s fine were here now might as well finish this...” the blonde says as deacon hands him his notes
“Alright well it seems we’re going to be separated for a bit my task is in that direction and you... have to say goodbye to the person in the casket...” Deacon adds hesitantly
“w-what? Why?” The blonde asks his breath hitching I his throat
“It’s your characters... mother who’s in the casket... you have to say your final goodbyes...” the brunette adds rubbing the back of his neck
He had to do... what... chase looks over at the casket feeling his heart pounding in his chest his breathing got ridged and fast paced his ears ringing as he stared at the long wooden box, he felt like it was zooming towards him despite him standing still he turned back to his cousin
“do I have to...?” He asks
“If you want to do this book correctly then yes” the brunette adds
“...alright” the blonde sighed
He looks toward the casket again taking a deep shaky breath and walked towards it with his head down every bone in his body was telling him to run. To get out of there bit he ignored it stepping right next to it he slowly lifted his head up to view the woman laid there and as he did he felt his mind go blank, his ears rang louder than ever before his heart pounding in his chest his throat felt like it had closed up and his breathing quickened and shock with each breath
He couldn’t help but shake the woman was thin too thin and ghostly pale her eye lids closed but he could tell her eyes had sunken in her hair was a dirty blonde she was beautiful for a corpse, the voices in the back of his head screamed to be heard and for once chase was too weak to push them away
She’s dead just like your dad, isn’t it funny if you don’t find a way to be useful your mother will end up just like this~ thin, pale and dead.
The words panicked him no... no he could do this he could save his mum... right? He can do it he had to do it... he has too... his ears rang more his head feeling light and dizzy his entire body was shaking tears threatening to fall from his eyes The only thing he could do was run. And that is what he did he didn’t know where he was going or what he was doing he just ran
He ran as far as his legs would take him before collapsing onto the ground in a panicked state his eyes darted around trying to take in his surroundings bit everything was just a blur, he couldn’t see... he couldn’t breathe he panicked his hand clenched his shirt as he tried to gasp for air he was panicking and he couldn’t stop tears poured out his eyes only making his blurry vision worse
His knees found his chest trying to comfort himself to no success he feared he’d never stop... that was until he felt hands on his shoulder then the worried voice, he couldn’t understand what was being said but it did draw his attention making him turn his head to see who it was, its buddy... buddy had a worried look on his face his lips moved but chase couldn’t hear the words the ringing in his ears where too loud.
Buddy seemed to notice chase couldn’t hear him so he resorted in comfortingly rubbing the blondes back in hopes it would calm him down which slowly worked once the blonde was calm, still shaking but calm buddy sighed
“What happened” the goth asks with slight softness in his voice
Chase looks away from the black-haired male “t-the w-woman in the casket s-she-“ Chases voice was shaking and he could barely get his words out
“shhh it’s okay take your time” the goth says comfortingly rubbing the blondes back again
The blonde takes a deep breath and nods taking a moment to calm his nerves buddy stays close making sure to comfort the blonde to the best of his ability
Once the blonde was ready, he looked at buddy meeting his eyes finally noticing the worry his ice blue eyes
“calm?” The goth asks gaining a nod from the blonde “Okay now what happened?” He adds concern in his voice
“the woman in the casket... she reminded me of my mother...” the blonde says looking away
Buddy’s eyes widen slightly shocked? Surprised maybe or concerned? There was definitely some concern in the goth “I’m... so sorry...” the black-haired male finally adds
“no... it’s fine she’s not dead my mother but... she’s greatly sick and I fear she may...” rears form into the blondes’ eyes
Buddy pulled him into a hug embracing the blonde as he cried again chase leaned his head into the goth’s chest letting himself cry as the goth rubbed his neck with one hand while the other comfortingly played with his blonde hair after a while chase stops and leans back
“thank you... buddy” he says smiling up at the goth
The goth gave a small smile back “your always there for me this is the least I could do” he says as chase leans back into his embrace
They stay like that for a good while before finally deciding to get up and find deacon they both agreed that chase needed to get out of this book and once they did chase has finally decided to sign up for therapy he needed to stop these voices one way or another.
