Chapter Text
Prologue
Harley’s POV:
A lot has happened this past summer of 1967, so let me catch you up.
First, Pony got his license and is working on his applications for early action. It took a lot of arm twisting on my part, and Darry nagged him to get there. It probably helped though that Darry was doing it for the University of Tulsa. I was able to help Darry study for his second set of ACTs and Pony to study for his first try at ACTs. Let’s just say that Pony did better than Darry, not that it was a competition or anything.
The next big thing was that Pony got a job at the public library with me and we would ride side by side on our Vespas. Shout out to my grandmother. Working together, bonding over books, and seeing who could make the most book recommendations and help the most people was fun.
Pony surprised us all by sharing with us all right before it came out, that he published his theme that he wrote when Johnny and Dally passed away and it was coming out. I was so proud of him.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a normal gang summer if I didn’t mention that we still have our monthly dinners at my grandmother’s house and that she still hovers over us because of what happened this past year, especially with my family. My parents are still ghosts to the wind though. That’s fine with me though. Good riddance.
The Greaser and Soc rift though is still there. The Socs were a little skittish though with me, with everything that went down with Ford. I don’t mind. It’s not like I’ll be around much since I’ll be starting USC in the fall.
Speaking of USC, before I forget. Darry sat Pony and me down and told us he thought it was in our best interest if we decided to split and stop dating before I headed off to college in the fall. He didn’t want Pony to be sulking and revert to his old ways like the year in between when Johnny and Dally died and I showed up. As much as I wanted to protest, I knew he was probably right. We needed to explore what we were like without each other for a while especially with me being off at college and Pony starting his senior year and applying to colleges. It doesn’t make it hurt though any less. We were still going to be friends though and hang out in the group, just like old times.
