"3 2 1, happy new year!" The hotel staff all yelled in unison before bringing their loved ones close as the fireworks started going off behind them. Vaggie and Charlie, Husk and Angel, Cherri and her... picture of Sir Penrious, yeah better nor to question the grieving woman. Lucifer watched all of them getting their new years kiss, all of them except for him.
He knew Alastor wasn't the biggest on physical affection at the best of time let alone in public, Lucifer didn't expect Alastor to embrace this tradition, but still it hurt a little seeing everyone else kiss their lovers with the fireworks in the background. Lucifer was a romantic (who would've guessed, shocking right?) And this was one of those moments that screamed classic TV romcoms, he would've loved it. But he wouldn't break the boundaries Alastor had set, he respected him too much to even try. Instead he just stood there watching the fireworks and popping the lone party popper, he had handed one out to everyone but the others were all too distracted to use them.
Unsurprisingly to everyone except for some reason Lucifer, Alastor was watching the king with keen interest. The colourful fireworks reflected in the kings eyes in the most beautiful way, he wouldn't say it but Alastor thought the king was the most distractingly gorgeous being in all of the seven rings. He was absolutely breathtaking and it almost compelled him to lean in and take the mans hand in his own and kiss him, but more than his distaste towards PDA his distaste for cheesy traditions was much more present in the moment. Perhaps if it wasn't for the disgustingly cute nature of the action he would consider it.
All of his thoughts however changed when Lucifer turned to him happily and spoke "Happy new year, Al." It was so simple, so plain and yet the way he spoke, was so captivating. He had a small smile on his face and his voice was soft and seemingly cheery but underneath there was a rint of sadness, disappointment. He didn't have to say for Alastor to know why he was sad, he knew it was his own fault. Lucifer had agreed easily and instantaneously when Alastor told him not to kiss him on new years, he knew to respect his boundaries and would never dare to even try to cross them. And still, Alastor wasn't blind, he saw the way Lucifers face fell slightly before he tried to hide it. It was sweet, that he agreed to something that meant he wouldn't get what he so clearly wanted. Alastor decided Lucifer deserved a reward.
Reaching out his hand Alastor replied with a smile, not his usual ever present smile, but a smaller, more genuine one. "Happy new year my love."
Lucifer took his outstretched hand in his own, quickly being pulled in close to Alastor, gold blush quickly rising on his face as he looked up to his partner. Before he could even try and question Alastor's actions Lucifers lips were captured by Alastors as his hands moved to wrap around his waist.
It was a short kiss, barely long enough that Charlie had just stopped saying "awwww" by the time they separated, but to Lucifer it was everything.
