Work Text:
Angela sighed as she tossed her bag onto a chair and threw herself onto the couch. It had been a long day, with her dashing back and forth between multiple sets for multiple projects. She’d been up since 5am; it was nearing 11pm now, and while she wasn’t normally the type to go to bed this “early”, she felt absolutely exhausted now. On top of that, a surprising (but not unwelcome) holiday cold front had moved in to Los Angeles, and of course she’d forgotten her coat. Angela was freezing.
“Welcome home, babe,” Amanda entered the living room from their bedroom wearing a big plush robe, her hair wrapped up in a towel, her cheeks rosy from the boiling shower she’d clearly taken just before Angela got home. Somehow knowing exactly what Angela was feeling, she grabbed a heavy knit blanket off the ottoman and tucked it around her girlfriend before pressing a kiss to her forehead.
“Hey, Manda,” Angela murmured back as she tugged the blanket up further towards her chin and settled deeper into the cushions. “Will you make me a hot chocolate?” Maybe it was because it actually got cold in Boston, but Amanda’s hot chocolate was the best Angela had ever tasted. Certainly far better than she could ever make herself. It was exactly what she needed to warm herself up— plus, the thought of falling asleep right there on the couch didn’t sound as bad if Amanda was cuddled up next to her with a mug too. “With lots of marshmallows?” Angela added.
“Name all of Santa’s reindeer and I will.” Amanda grinned mischievously, eyes twinkling as she looked down at the little snug-as-a-bug Angela.
Angela rolled her eyes. “Really, Amanda?”
Amanda nodded. “Yep. Do it, or no hot cocoa. And especially no marshmallows.”
(Which wasn’t true, and Angela knew it— Amanda could never resist her girlfriend’s big brown puppy dog eyes. But Angela couldn’t resist Amanda’s dares either, so she’d play along.)
“Fine, easy, no problem.” Angela thought for a moment. How did that poem go again? “On Dasher, on Dancer, on…. Prancer? And Vixen! On…. Comet, on Cupid, on Donna, and Blitzen. Oh, and Rudolph, duh. See?! There! Hot chocolate time!”
Amanda blinked at her as she processed Angela’s words. “Wow, I’m actually impressed, you— wait. Wait, ‘Donna’?”
“Yeah, that’s one of the reindeer.”
“‘Donna’?!” Amanda repeated again.
“On Donna and Blitzen. Yeah, those are the last two.”
Amanda burst out laughing. “Not Donna. Donner. Like the Donner Party, but not. Definitely not Donna!”
Angela pouted. “On Donna and Blitzen,” she mumbled. “Whatever, I was close enough! I named all of Santa’s reindeer—”
“You almost named all of Santa’s reindeer.”
“Can I have my hot chocolate now? Please?”
Amanda used the edge of her robe’s sleeve to dab away tears of laughter from her eyes. “‘Donna’,” she giggled. “Donna the reindeer!” She called out as she made her way into the kitchen to fix two mugs of hot chocolate (with plenty of marshmallows) for her and her girlfriend.
