Summary
Dahlia looked to the calendar and sighed, “De years seem to pass quicker and quicker—huh, Clover?”
With practiced ease, she pulled out a piece of paper and a pencil to write her dear, late friend. This time of year always brought a melancholic feeling to the woman, searching for words to describe the highlights as part of her reached for memories that got foggier year after year. Clover’s face was no longer clear in her mind’s eye.
Dahlia told herself that’s just what comes with age, but it did nothing to lift her mood. Only recounting the latest thing to catch her interest did that, and after an hour of hemming and hawing, Dahila signed the letter with love like she had for most of the time since Clover took that final hike. Moving over to the small shrine she made for him and his father, she opened the drawer below and slipped the pages onto the stack of letters all starting with ‘Dear Clover’.
“Happy anniversary, Honey.” Dahlia whispered as she closed the drawer. Sighing once more as a finger wrinkled the yellow and blue polka-dotted scarf at her neck, “Please watch over me—wherever ya are…”
With that, Dahlia checked the time, pulled on her boots, and left the apartment for her librarian shift.
