Work Text:

Doppio had always enjoyed teasing people, especially when he saw how easily he could get under their skin. But when it came to Ver Vermillion, well, that was a different kind of fun. Ver was always so composed, so calm, and Doppio loved seeing him get flustered. And lately, he'd found a new way to get under Ver’s skin.

It all started one late evening in their shared hideout. The dim light from the candles flickered against the stone walls, casting long shadows across the room. Ver sat across from Doppio, scrolling through some documents on the table, his face drawn in concentration. Doppio, on the other hand, was idly leaning back in his chair, watching Ver with that mischievous glint in his eye.

"Hey, Babygirl," Doppio said casually, leaning forward slightly, his voice low and smooth. "You need a hand with that?"

Ver froze. He glanced up from his paperwork, his sharp eyes narrowing. "What did you just call me?"

Doppio smiled, unbothered. "Babygirl," he repeated, savoring the sound of it. His voice was deliberate, deep, teasing. "It just suits you, don't you think?"

Ver’s face flushed a deep shade of crimson, and he quickly glanced away, his fingers twitching slightly as if unsure of what to do with them. "I-I’m not your ‘babygirl,’ Doppi," he stammered, his usual smooth demeanor slipping for just a moment.

Doppio leaned back further in his chair, enjoying the effect his words had. He knew Ver’s cool exterior was all a mask- one that cracked the moment he started speaking in that low, almost playful tone. "Oh, but you are, Kaichou. I mean, just look at you. So cute when you get all flustered. Come on, don’t be shy."

Ver clenched his jaw, trying to maintain his composure, but his ears were burning. He shifted uncomfortably in his seat, cursing under his breath. "You... You’re unbelievable, Doppi." His voice was strained now, a mix of annoyance and something else. He couldn’t quite place it.

Doppio chuckled softly, his gaze never leaving Ver. "Come on, Babygirl," he said again, drawing out the word with a little more emphasis. "I’m just saying, you’ve got that vibe, you know? Like you look so cute with your big eyes staring up ever so innocently, and the flush that’s creeping up right now. I’d say quite the babygirl, Ver."

Ver’s eyes widened. He was sure his heart was racing now, and his breath hitched in his throat. “That’s not... That’s not even funny.”

But Doppio could see the way his cheeks were tinged pink, the subtle tremor in his voice. Ver was trying so hard to pretend it didn’t affect him, but Doppio knew better.

"You sure about that?" Doppio’s voice dropped even lower, his words slow and deliberate. He leaned forward a bit, making sure his next words were heard clearly. "You can deny it all you want, but you know I’m right."

Ver swallowed hard, his face now a deep shade of red. He glanced around, his gaze darting anywhere but at Doppio, desperately trying to hide his flustered state. “You’re insufferable.”

Doppio’s smile widened, completely pleased with the effect he was having. “I think you like it, Babygirl. You’re just too shy to admit it.”

Ver wanted to retort, to tell Doppio exactly where he could shove his teasing, but his mind was a whirlwind, and his words seemed to be caught in his throat. He could feel the heat radiating off his skin, and the teasing tone in Doppio’s voice, the way he said "Babygirl" in that deep, almost possessive way- it was making him feel things he definitely wasn’t prepared to acknowledge.

"Stop calling me that," Ver muttered under his breath, but it came out more like a plea than a command.

Doppio leaned back again, raising an eyebrow. "Oh? Are you really gonna tell me to stop?" He chuckled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "What if I don’t want to, Babygirl? What if I like seeing you get all embarrassed?"

Ver opened his mouth, then closed it again, not sure how to respond without giving himself away. He hated how much Doppio’s teasing was affecting him, but he couldn't seem to stop it. Every time Doppio said that word, in that tone, it sent a wave of warmth rushing through him.

With a deep sigh, Ver tried to regain some semblance of control. "You're impossible," he muttered, turning his attention back to his paperwork, even though he knew it wasn’t helping to distract him.

Doppio chuckled again, enjoying the rare sight of Ver- strong, usually so unshakable Ver- flustered and unable to hide it.

"You say that," Doppio mused, "but I think you secretly love it. You're just too shy to admit it."

Ver huffed and gave up trying to look calm. He crossed his arms and glared at Doppio. "You’re lucky I don’t throw you out the window."

Doppio’s grin softened into something a little more tender, still playful, but with a hint of affection. "Oh, I’m not worried. You’d miss me too much if I was gone, Babygirl."

Ver rolled his eyes, though the smile tugging at his lips betrayed him. "You really are impossible."

But Doppio’s voice, so low and steady, was like a silent promise. "I’ll keep calling you that, Kaichou. I know you like it. Even if you won’t admit it."

And somehow, Ver found himself not really minding that at all.

End.
