Five Nights at Blue Badger's

Summary:

Klavier won't let his fear of animatronics and horror movies stop him from having a date with Apollo. Written for Inimi, who requested, "Klapollo" and "horror movies" for my 700-word drabble contest on my tumblr

Notes:

Klavier shares my own fears for animatronics, but also my morbid curiosity with things like “Five Nights At Freddy’s”. Given that Ace Attorney Investigations has it’s own “piss yourself” moments in the Gatewaterland episode, I figured I’d run with it. Protobadger is creepy af.

Work Text:

Klavier's hand suddenly grabbed his own.

Apollo looked over at the prosecutor; Klavier stared stock-still at the screen ahead, but Apollo had the sense that Klavier wasn't really, "watching."

"You okay?" Apollo whispered, which caused Klavier to jolt slightly in his seat before he turned to address Apollo. Had, Apollo not seen Klavier's fear from the profile-view, he might have fallen for Klavier's calm and cool expression when Klavier turned to face him with his 100-watt smile,

"Ja klar, baby. Why do you ask?"

Apollo didn't need Athena's ears to know what was going on in Klavier's pretty blonde head; fortunately, Klavier was too distracted to attempt to conceal his ticks from Apollo.

Two hair flips, and a spin of the silver thumb ring, and Apollo knew something was up,

"We can leave, if you're scared." Apollo whispered back, his eyes leaving Klavier's to look over the blonde's shoulder towards the screen:

The night guard was listening to Phone Guy's message for night three. Protobadger's night; if they left now, perhaps Klavier would be okay-

Klavier made a noise, "Haha, Forehead. It's fine...unless it's you, that wants to leave...I understand," he said nonchalantly in a way to make it seem that Apollo was the one wanting to run scared from the theater.

And to be frank, Apollo didn't want to leave. It was the special extended release version of Five Nights at Blue Badger's, and Apollo had been dying to see the movie since test footage had been leaked the year before.

Plus, it wasn't that scary...but then again, he and Clay had passed their Friday nights since the age of twelve watching horror movies (the good and the bad), as if it were their jobs; perhaps he had a higher tolerance?

On screen there was a shuffling behind the nervous security guard, as they worked their way down the dark hallway. A jump scare was coming- Apollo took a long sip of his soda- nothing to be worried about.

Klavier's hand was on his arm again, and it was beginning to tense. Apollo darted his eyes over to Klavier's profile again- noted the look of dread and morbid curiosity on Klavier's face as he watched in anticipation- and then Apollo darted his gaze over to the pair of (the many) teenage couples who were busy making out with one another, completely un-phased by the movie. Then back to Klavier.

Wow. He looks really scared, I mean...it's not that scar-

And then Klavier nearly jumped out of his seat when Protobadger popped up from a floor grate to drag the hapless security guard down to their doom.

There was screaming, and gore on the screen- nothing too out of the ordinary for a psychological slasher, however Klavier looked as if he was going to be sick if he had to endure another night at Blue Badger’s.

Getting Klavier to agree to leave however was going to take a white lie,

"Hey," Apollo said, "I'm not feeling so hot, do you mind if we-?"

Later, as they walked down the street, Apollo would wonder if Klavier had suddenly gained the ability to apparate; Apollo didn't really recall their leaving of the theater, given Klavier's rush.

They were walking down the sidewalks in the cool autumn air, and it wasn't too late- perhaps he could coax Klavier into getting drinks, Klavier certainly looked as if he needed one.

"I'm sorry you didn't like the movie," Apollo said quietly as he looked about for bar they could duck into for some privacy. Klavier looked at him, attempted to put on his "cool guy" persona, but it faltered when Apollo cut him off with a knowing look, "we didn't have to see a horror film, if you don't like them."

Klavier frowned, "Ach, but you wanted to see it- you'd been going on about this movie for months, and I didn't want to take that away from you."

"Yeah but you were scared."

"Nein-"

Apollo rolled his eyes, "You can't lie to me, Klav."

Klavier made a huff, "I wouldn't have minded...I wish it had not been about," and the prosecutor shivered, "animatronics coming to life and committing murder."

"Had you ever played the game?"

Klavier shook his head, "Please. Mutti and Vatti never let me play video games...and even if I could have, I would have had nightmares..." Apollo heard the other's mutter of "I'll probably have them tonight."

"You're scared of animatronics?"

"Ja. Once in Disney World, I was stuck on the one with the international singing dolls for almost an hour; it was mein own personal hell."

Apollo felt his face heat, "T-then why did you want to come and see the movie with me? I feel badly now-"

"Because I never get to see you anymore," Klavier said quietly, "I figured what's a little adventure in nightmares, if it means I have a dream date with Herr Forehead."

Apollo could feel the blood flowing to his cheeks Looks like ' Mr. Smooth' has recovered, "S-still. You shouldn't have had to suffer through something you weren't going to enjoy; we could have done something else."

"Ach," Klavier was running his figures through his hair as he walked, "I am with you, so I am happy."

Apollo sighed, "C'mon, there has to be a way for me to make it up to you; I feel like a bad date over here."

Suddenly Klavier's hand was taking Apollo's hand again, this time it was light, yet firm, "Let me hold your hand, and I will be happy to forgive you."

Apollo squeezed Klavier's hand as they continued down the street towards the bars at the end of the boulevard, "Am I going to get a kiss out of it at the end?"

Klavier smiled, "But of course."
