Chapter Text
It was a silent night in Gotham Park, no one was trying to set it on fire (more than usual) and the plant themed rouge was peacefully checking on her plants, searching through her link with the green for an answer to the strange feeling she was sensing since a little over a month ago, she needed to know if the end was near as Lady Gotham seemed to forebode something big and she was dead set into finding out what
Or was, until a certain thief landed behind her
“Pam I need a favor” Selina Kyle said after taking off her mask and dropping her bag next to her.
Pamela Isley was known for not interacting with humans (or liking their existence whatsoever), but Selina is the exception, throughout the years they could safely say that they were close friends, and even then, the meta-human wasn’t thrilled about her appearance, after all she was in the middle of a really important research of a presumably great danger to her and her plants, but she was also sightly curious as to what had her friend so vulnerable
“Cat how many times have I told you, I’m not-“
“Please”
A simple word, but one that both women used with the most sacred caution, it ensured that if they needed something the other would know that there was nothing in the world that was of the most importance.
“… What do you want”
“Just give me a year and then I’m out of your hair”
“Kyle what do you want” Pamela wasn’t having any bullshit, she was planning to attack some enterprises in the morning and everything had to be perfect, it didn’t matter if she ended up on Arkham again, and apart from that the new big mental note to check the situation with the newly rejuvenated sentient city and it’s predicament.
“A way to stay out of everyone sight and the safest I will ever be-”
“Why?”
“I fucked up, big time”
“Why Selina-“
“I’m pregnant”
Well maybe her plans could wait to a later date, she didn’t care about the human race, but Selina was a special case, even if she brought the only thing she was never prepared to deal with, some research wouldn’t be so bad…
Wait research, her friend was growing a new human being inside of her, approximately at the same time Lady G begun to prosper again...
“Your room is always there, I will be going out to get essentials, anything you need?” ‘ coincidence, I am reading too much to it’
“Not really- I don’t know”
“Fine, do you know how much?”
“I- I’m not sure, maybe a month or two? I didn’t notice at first, but I fainted on a rooftop and then I noticed that I haven’t-“ ‘there was nothing to it’ the botanist convinced herself
“I’m not a human doctor Selina did you took a test?”
“Four actually, all said the same thing”
“I will be back, make yourself at home”
No one batted an eye when Poison Ivy casually entered and left Gotham Library with a bunch of books that didn’t register on the system and if the librarian had compromised not to tell if they were returned by the next year nobody knew.
That same day a bunch of tec and supermarket were visited by the rouge. And a hospital went missing some equipment on the gynecology department
There was also the detail that after Selina moved there the park seemed to be less frequented by anyone,
‘Surely they just finally realized how foolish it is to try and come here’ Ivy thought to herself one day, but it felt more like she was fooling herself
“Ives as much as love your help don’t you think you have research enough?”
An incensed gasp was the response she got
“Ok, never is enough research” the woman replied while rolling her eyes “But it’s been two months since I got here and all you do is research how pregnancy works”
“Well as much as you know how well normal human interactions goes for me, you trust me enough to basically be the only other person that will interact with you while this baby is growing, so I’m not sorry for getting as much information as I can to help the little sprout grow just as healthy and cared as the rest of my babies”
That and the voice at the back of the vigilante’s head that tells her that she is to help this child become something great
“… Thank you, so much” the tan woman said while whipping away some stray tears “I will never be able to repay you this”
“I’m not making this for you” she replied in a tone that many would say dismissive, but Selina knew this meant she was embarrassed “That baby will pay that debt when it grows”
The room was cozy, the cat themed vigilante laid lazily on the couch reading a random book while the owner of the house was at the table looking over some papers
“Ah-“
“What? did you spill something again because I swear to god Selina if-“
“The baby just kicked me”
If that was the first time the infamous Poison Ivy tripped and fell from a chair, the other woman would have laughed but she was too entranced by the action of the baby to care. Once Pamela was close enough Selina took the other stretched hand and put it where the kicks were.
If this first instance was added to the log that Ivy kept strictly for her plants that was for her to know
Later going by the day’s events, the scientist took notice of the problem of her poisonous skin, she wouldn’t be able to touch the baby let alone hold it, and she also wasn’t sure if the antidote could cause harm to someone so young.
She got a new thing to investigate in, so instead of getting even more enrolled in the books and internet searches a new mysterious woman begun to attend Gotham university, the lectures were all right, and she would be lying if she said that there was a strange fondness in being able to learn once again.
“In the long run this would help the baby too so not to worry” she said out loud for no one in particular, if some hybrids of the plants she would later need to use to concoct the vaccine was already growing and thriving when she checked well... then the thanks she said after was also well received.
“Does she have a name?”
“How are you so sure it is a she?”
“I have no idea… Maybe my connection with nature?” then Ivy seemed to rethink her answer “now that i think about it, maybe it is, lady G seemed to be anticipating the something big, the presence of a new guardian, whoever they might be, but Gotham is thriving with life since... sometime before you got here-”
They were not stupid nor blind, either this was a coincidence, or this baby is meant to be something special-
“… No, I will not give the baby a name”
“I see… I- I can work with that” instead of pointing out her friend’s change of topic Ivy just didn’t mention it again in hopes that it would just be a mere coincidence.
Also, Sprout was the repetitive name that often appeared on the botanist log
The baby was born on the night, and Pamela could have gotten a brand-new fucking PHD with how well she managed the whole situation, with nearly no complication and both the mother and child were perfectly healthy, she wrapped the infant on a towel and went to her friend side
“I told you it was a she”
Selina didn’t respond, only seeing the her little girl for the first time, crying while praying that she has a healthy and full of love life, knowing that she will not be able to give it to her, somewhere deep inside of her she knew those were just excuses, she was afraid that her presence would only mean hurt for the infant.
Also, that night was the one with the clearest skies many have ever seen, and many people decided to lay low for the night too, both a true miracle that has only ever happened counted times before that many could tell, somewhere in the city a strike white haired man just stared at the skies with a newly found rejoice, wondering when he could meet the newly member of the heirdom
When the baby was born along with the regular shots Ivy gave her the antidote for her skin as she would be going all out into helping Selina, luckily it didn’t seem to have any side effects, so she took her little win and took charge of watching over the kid at night, as such…
“Ivy, you look like shit”
“Gee thanks”
“I mean it, go get some sleep I was supposed to watch her in the night”
“I’m a meta human Selina I can stay awake for more time than you ever could”
“And that’s why it was my turn tonight, you already watched over her for the past week”
“… Fine, but I’m right”
“Yeah, you are now go get some rest”
It was around four months since the baby was born when both women were having a relaxing evening and the baby was somehow playing with Ivy’s plants,
The somewhat tranquil sounds of the Garden were interrupted by a loud crash near the gate, in an instant the plant themed rouge had covered the baby in leafs to hide her from harm and Selina got up and put herself between the infant and the potential threat, once Ivy confirmed that it was a normal Gotham chaos and not goons taking down her door she relaxed and she put the baby down.
What they didn’t expect was for the baby to giggle when the motion brought her to her mother's waiting arms, both women stared for a moment and then Selina moved her up and down on her arms, the little giggle turned to a full out laughter
“She is so precious” was the only thing that escaped the meta human mouth as she inadvertently begun to grow a variety of flowers throughout the whole park (that day many gothamites wondered what got the woman so happy, but nobody complained as it put many in a good mood)
“Yes she is, isn’t that right? My little kitten” the other replied with a gentle smile on her face
The baby’s smile was covering her whole face making her bright blue eyes close. And it felt like the whole world was built to protect it.
Discovering that the baby was just as curious and agile as her mother was not the best experience for the two women, as one moment they leaved the baby on the floor in the living room and the next she was crawling halfway through the park with a set determination on touching every single plant
Surprisingly she wasn’t as fast when she begun to walk
The baby had hair as dark as her mother’s costume, the figure of her eyes was also from her, but those bright blue eyes was clearly inherited by her father, Ivy never asked, and Selina was grateful as she wasn’t sure she would keep quiet if her friend inquired about it.
When the year mark was approaching both women knew what had to be done and made the necessary arrangements for dropping the infant in the orphanage, they both had risky lives, and it wasn’t an option to just disappear, so the baby’s first birthday greeted her in a totally different environment and in a new house.
That day Lady Gotham felt restless, so much that Ivy doubts they made the right decision, that was until she analyzed G’s moods and found that this was meant to happen, it was just difficult to digest.
