Work Header

After the Battle.

Summary:

His lips perk a little further up right before he utters his new Persona’s name. “Cybele!”

As his body lurches to the side, a blue woman with horns emerges from the sea of his soul. I watch the blue woman lift her swords up above her as a massive snowflake appears before the shadow. As the Persona retreats back into his soul, I swear I can feel some sort of connection to it.

For some reason, Yukari can't stop thinking about Makoto's newest Persona. Lucky for her, she can ask the source directly.

Notes:

I've seen this sort of s.link connection to the ultimate Personas idea before and decided to write something with it for my favorite ship.

This has been sitting in my files for like 3 months or so please enjoy.

Work Text:

“Incoming electric! Yukari, look out!”

I barely managed to dodge the attack that Makoto had just warned me about.

If there’s anything I’m grateful for at the moment, it’s that Makoto’s gotten a lot more vocal with his commands. Dodging is a lot easier whenever there’s a comforting voice to warn you a few seconds beforehand.

Luckily for us, the shadow is now out of juice for a few seconds. I forget its name, but I suppose it isn’t important to me. Makoto’s the one who leads, and has most of the shadows' weaknesses memorized. I swear, it’s like he has a sixth sense for shadow weaknesses. Sometimes Fuuka goes a few battles without needing to provide any support.

There’s a small part of me that wants to be jealous of that ability of his, but… I think that since it’s Makoto, it just makes more sense for him to have it.

He really is reliable, huh? Well, I suppose it might be hard to not be reliable whenever you’re some sort of chosen one with the unique ability to wield multiple Personas. Hm, maybe that’s why he’s got that sixth sense for shadow weaknesses?

Oh, it looks like he’s going to change his persona. He’s closed his eyes like he’s contemplating his next move. He usually looks like that when changing Personas.

His eyes then shoot open, and he quickly grabs his evoker from its holster, spinning it around his index finger, before pressing the technically-faux muzzle to the side of his head.

Oh, he’s got that smile he gets whenever he first summons a new Persona. It’s nothing like the one from that night, but it’s still a bit unnerving to see.

His lips perk a little further up right before he utters his new Persona’s name. “Cybele!” As his body lurches to the side, a blue woman with horns emerges from the sea of his soul. Makoto recovers from the impact of the summoning as he commands his new Persona to use Bufudyne on the shadow.

I watch the blue woman lift her swords up above her as a massive snowflake appears before the shadow. The snowflake shines a bright blue as it strikes the shadow with an ice attack that may rival one of Kirijo-senpai’s.

As the Persona retreats back into his soul, I suddenly swear I can feel some sort of connection to it. I don’t know why, but… Cybele feels nice. Comforting, even.

‘Is it… connected to me?’ I'm quick to ask myself internally, but before I can ponder it Makoto loudly calls for an all out attack.

Alright, here we go! What’s that lyric from that song that Makoto showed me? Oh yeah, “It’s too late for apologies!”

Wait no, that’s not right- Agh, not enough time to think about it!

“Get back here!” I yell out to the shadow who’s barely moved a meter, beginning to beat it with my bow's metal frame, before firing a few arrows into its stupid masked face.

As we begin to back off from the shadow, Makoto charges back at it, and delivers a clean swipe through its body using only his sword.

After we regroup and continue forward to the next checkpoint, I allow myself a moment to ponder that Persona he summoned, ‘Cybele.’ I swear I just can’t get it out of my head. It’s familiar to me somehow despite the fact that I’ve never seen it before! And it’s not because I recognize the goddess from mythology, there are plenty of his Persona’s that I recognize from a textbook, but Cybele…

Ughh! I’m just gonna have to go up to him and ask about it later.

“Yeesh, Makoto sure made us push ourselves tonight, eh Yuka-tan?”

I sigh an exaggerated sigh. Junpei’s conversation is a nice distraction for a bit. I’ve thought of that stupid blue woman for a while now, but we’re on our way back to the dorms so I should definitely get my mind off of it until I can ask Makoto about it.

“I think you’re just complaining…” I respond to Junpei’s question, quickly forming a back and forth that we both silently agree not to let go too far. As Junpei brings up my questionable relationship status, accusing me of being in a secret relationship, Makoto chooses to pipe up for the first time since we left Tartarus.

“Yukari, how’s your bow doing?”

Oh, he wants to know how I’m doing, and he wants to ask privately. I’m not sure why he does… Unless he noticed me acting off after he summoned that persona. Shit! Been thinking too long-

“Huh? Oh it’s fine, see!”

That’s the confirmation to him that he can come by my room.

Junpei asks Makoto about supplies, which immediately draws his attention away from me. I’m only a little upset to already be done talking to my boyfriend, but oh well. I’ll talk to him later anyways.

The dorm’s in sight now, which means it’s time for me to walk ahead of everyone so I can get my room presentable. It only takes a few minutes to speed walk my way into the dorm, and rush upstairs to quickly tidy up.

A few things in the closet there, another few in my drawers, and of course I have to throw a few boxes under my bed. And alright! I’m good to go. Now, a knock on the door is the only thing I’m waiting for. Luckily, it comes rather quickly.

Makoto slinks his way inside my room after I lightly call out that it’s open. He’s quick to make his way to my cushions, sitting down next to where I’m currently sitting.

“So-” I begin first, knowing he’s just going to sit here until I talk. “That newest Persona has been on my mind ever since you first summoned her. ‘Cybele…’ Why can’t I get her out of my mind?” I ask Makoto, who only responds with a smile, before he reaches for my hand.

“It's because Cybele is the result of our close bond.”

I look at him with a mixture of confusion and awe, but he continues as though my expression hasn’t changed.

“Honestly, I think she may be the strongest Persona I have at the moment.” He smiles again. God I could fly with that smile powering me. “I guess Cybele is a part of you within me.”

Damn, that was cheesy. But- I think he’s right. Cybele is part me, part him. That’s why she’s so familiar.

“So… our bond takes the form of a blue woman?” I ask, still somewhat confused about all this.

“Well… our bond is a special one. And if we had a little girl who had my hair…”

I lightly slap him on the back before he can continue. He gives a small laugh, and I can’t help but smile. Still though, “We’re way too young to be thinking about stuff like that!” I scold him with a quiet shout.

Makoto continues to laugh at me for a few seconds before recovering from the small laughing fit. “Sorry- I was just joking.”

I pout at him since there’s not much else I feel I can do in retaliation.

“Jeez, how is the kindest person I know also one of the rudest?”

“You don’t really believe that.” He says with a hint of a laugh.

“You’re right.” I say as I lay my head on his shoulder, happy to have such close contact. “I don’t.”

We both sit there and smile for a bit. God, we probably look so weird from an external view. But I don’t care about that, since it’s only us right now.
