Make Some Noise

Summary:

Eddie’s excited to spend New Year’s Eve at Anne and Dan’s, until Venom gets their tendrils on a noisemaker.

Notes:

A little late because Word ate my document the first time I wrote it, and was too frustrated to write it out again yesterday, but happy new years!

Work Text:

Eddie hadn’t really been into the idea when Anne had first suggested that he and Venom celebrate New Year’s Eve at her and Dan’s apartment. He’d been picturing a night spent shovelling appetizers into his mouth and cuddling on the couch with Venom while they watched movies.

Anne had argued that he could do the same thing at her place, plus they’d have games and champagne, and he couldn’t come up with a rebuttal, so he gave in, saying they’d be there at 8pm on New Year’s Eve.

He explained the traditions and customs of the holiday to the symbiote, and Venom’s growing excitement rubbed off on him until he actually found himself looking forward to it as they made their way to Anne’s on the 31st.

His excitement lasted all of about ten minutes after they got there, when Dan gave Venom a noisemaker. They grabbed it with a small tendril and brought it to their mouth, blowing on it as instructed. Right into Eddie’s ear.

It scared him so bad that he almost dropped his drink, recovering just in time to steady the glass before he could spill any on the carpet.

Venom laughed, blowing the noisemaker again, but at least this time Eddie was prepared for it. He was also prepared the third, fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth times, and although the noise was giving him a headache, he didn’t want to be a party pooper, so he refrained from telling them to stop.

At one point, Venom pierced through it with his teeth and Eddie got a couple minutes of relief before Dan exited the bathroom and noticed, immediately handing Venom another one. Eddie had to stop himself from trying to strangle the guy.

Eventually, he got into a conversation about a mutual friend with Anne, holding a plate of mozzarella sticks and tater tots in one hand and a glass of wine in the other as she told them what the man had been up to lately, so he didn’t notice the next time Venom blew the noisemaker right in his ear.

He let out an inhuman shriek, jumping almost half a foot in the air and spilling all his appetizers and half his glass of wine on the floor.

“Jesus Christ, V,” he shouted. “Could you do that literally anywhere else, or better yet, just give it a fucking rest? Those things are to use at midnight, not all night long!” He yanked the noisemaker right out of Venom’s mouth, and instantly regretted it as soon as he saw the look on the symbiote’s face.

They looked utterly crushed, on the verge of tears. “I am sorry, Eddie, I will clean this up and I will stop. Will you accept my apology?”

More tendrils appeared and started picking up the mess, and Eddie bent down to help, feeling like shit. “Hey V, it’s ok, there’s no need to apologize. You were just having fun. You just scared me, that’s all. Once this is clean, how about we go grab some more tater tots, and then we’ll get you another noisemaker?”

That seemed to appease Venom, who grinned at Eddie, shaking their head excitedly. “Yes, if it is alright with Eddie, I would like that very much. I will try not to scare you.”

Eddie smiled back at them. “Just warn me before you’re going to do it, and you can blow it in my ear as many times as you want.” What was a little migraine if it was going to make Venom that happy? At least they’d be silent at midnight when Eddie kissed them.
