Dally puffed a puff of smoke from his "cancer stick" in the rain, he'd just had another fight with his god forbidden father and now has to spent another night outside. This was fine by him, he was actually used to it by now. He had decided to sleep in the park tonight, next to the fountain. Unfortunately, it started to rain right as he was chased out of the house.
He grumbled, pulling on his damp leather coat as he sat down, leaned against the wall of the fountain when he heard a voice next to him.
"Dally, what are you doing here in the rain?" an innocent and warmhearted voice asked, it was Johnny.
Dally pulled out his cigarette and tossed in the fountain behind him, "That old man kicked me out again."
Johnny sat next to Dally, his warmth almost comforting.
"So you're spending the night outside again?" Johnny guessed, taking in note of Dally's tired expression.
Dally nodded, "So be it. Say, shouldn't you get back to Ponyboy's home? I heard you were staying at his house again."
Johnny sighed, "Yeah, I know. I just wanted to make sure you're okay-"
"I'm fine."
Johnny was a bit startled by Dally's sudden interruption.
Dally turned his head away, his long streak of platinum blonde hair swaying in the motion. After a short while, he muttered a few words that Johnny couldn't pick up over the rain and fountain flowing. Dally turned back to Johnny, his once piercing blue eyes now a cloudy grey.
"Dally?" Johnny cautiously questioned.
Dally leaned against the wall of the fountain even more, "Sorry, Johnny. Didn't mean that."
Johnny breathed in relief, releasing the tension in the air.
"I could convince Darrel to let you stay over at Ponyboy's house as well... I don't really take up that much space on the couch." Johnny proposed.
Dally glanced over at Johnny, with conflicting unnecessary feelings in his thoughts. He coughed in response.
Johnny frowned at Dally's response, "You alright? My goodness, you're soaked.."
He leaned in closer to inspect Dally's condition, only for Dally to push him away lightly.
Dally's heart was beating just a bit faster now. He knew he was really soaked, but he couldn't afford to let Johnny see up close just how wet he really was. In fact, his leather jacket was only a thin layer of protection from the rain, his t-shirt was damp and uncomfortable, but he hided the fact he was bothered. It was probably some mental issue he had that made him sensitive to certain textures.
"I know I'm soaked from this damn rain." he huffed, though with no angry tone.
Dally's eyes met Johnny's on accident as he watched a car drive past the park. His cheeks flushed a little but he quickly regained his normal "tough" look. Johnny noticed it but thought it was because Dally now has a cold. Johnny was afraid to point it out because he knew how "tough" Dally always wanted to be.
"It's.. cold." Johnny said, shivering.
"It is. You're getting soaking wet now, Johnny. Run back to Ponyboy's place before you catch the cold."
"But I'm worried about you!" Johnny protested.
Dally's cheeks turned a light shade of pink but tried hiding it from Johnny again by turning away.
"I'm doing okay, it's just the rain. You can hurry off now."
Johnny leaned against Dally, which unbeknownst to him, was now blushing even harder.
"We Greasers never let other Greasers in the rain to soak and catch a cold!" Johnny exclaimed proudly.
Dally looked down at the tiny Johnny against his shoulder.
"Haha, fine." he laughed, finding this pretty amusing... and cute.
Can't believe I'm getting soft just for Johnny...
After a while of silence and the calming sounds of the fountain water and the slowing rain, Johnny seemed to have fallen asleep next to Dally, which made his heart pump even faster.
Dally pulled Johnny closer, almost like he's trying to shelter him. He wrapped his left arm around Johnny in a protective manner as he continued to watch the few cars drive past the park.
He glanced down at the sleeping Johnny, feeling like his heart is about to burst. Hah, so much for being a tough Greaser. But, Dally felt as if it was nicer this way. Peace and the relaxing sound of water, just him and the one he loved. Even though he knew Johnny most likely viewed him as another friend of his. However, to Dally, that didn't matter. All that matters is that he has found a purpose in life and someone he can look after.
He smiled, using his right hand to ruffle Johnny's hair gently.
"Maybe in another lifetime all of us won't have to worry about those damn Socs and the fuzz. Maybe then we can enjoy ourselves." he mumbled, pulling Johnny closer with his left arm.
Dally didn't even know what or how it even came to him loving Johnny like no other. The amount of hope and will to protect Johnny every time he thinks about him made him wonder. He looked down at Johnny again.
For a fraction of a second, he saw his younger self in replacement of Johnny. He was slightly surprised, but brushed it off from being too tired.
"Johnny... I'll protect you with every might. Johnny, my worth of living." he yawned, himself now leaning against Johnny as he slowly fell asleep, his left arm still protectively wrapped around him.
His whole world seemed to crash and burn to a ground when Johnny died in the hospital from the church fire. He had lost his loved one. The one he fought so hard to protect and keep by his side.
The tragic memories of them together flooded his head and thoughts when he ran down the streets.
The fuzz eventually caught up to him, although it was Dally's intention to run slower. He'd given up.
"Come on and shoot me if you dare!" he yelled, not afraid of the fuzz and their shotguns.
Bullets ran into his chest like a train. He coughed as he fell onto the ground. His vision began to blur.
He visioned Johnny's angel reaching his hand towards him. Dally reached out his left arm before his eyesight started to get dark.
"Maybe... in another lifetime..." he gasped, before dying under the streetlights.
The rain slowly started to pour down on his body as the rest of the gang circled around him.
