“Ah, I’m happy to see that both of you could make it.” You greeted, smiling as both of them clambered off the motorcycle that Static had driven over. Apparently she had a love for the noisy and high-speed vehicles, so it wasn’t too surprising to see her on a stylish blue bike.
“Sorry for being late.” Static helped Lily hop off and straighten her outfit. “Vox was doing a last-minute safety check.”
“It was mainly for Val’s sake.” Lily piped up. “He wasn’t too happy to hear we were meeting you.” She smiled apologetically.
You waved her off. “No need to apologize. And to be fair to him, it’s perfectly understandable. I am an Overlord, after all.”
“That and the history you both have.” Static snorted. “Val nearly had a conniption when he found out you saved Lily and had to explain to her why he didn’t like you.”
“True.” You mused, humored at the idea of Valentino’s child-like tantrums. You gestured for them to join you at a nearby table. “Come sit.”
The girls joined you at the table in the cafe’s little courtyard, just a touch adjacent to Cannibal Town’s border, and it was a pleasant place for sure. Some of the staff were a bit nervous around you, given your recent rise to power and the fact that most knew you as Alastor’s lover, but you paid it little mind. After getting your orders put in, all three of you were left to talk.
“So, how are you both?” You glanced at Lily. “I heard through the rumor mill that you and Valentino had a bit of a fight…”
Lily nodded. “Kind of… But it’s all better now. He says he’s going to do better, and he has.”
“I can confirm.” Static chimed in. “He’s absolutely spoiling her to make up for it.”
“Well, I wouldn’t put it that way…” Lily squirmed, blushing a bit.
“Lily, he turned a penthouse suite in the tower into an indoor garden for you.” Static deadpanned.
“That was before the fight, actually.” She smiled, pulling out her phone to show you a few pictures. “But it is really pretty. He said he wanted to give me space to grow my plants since I love them so much.”
“Well isn’t that sweet.” You murmured. “And you’ve done a lovely job, too…”
“Thank you.”
“What about you, Red?” Static relaxed back, clearly at ease. “How’s your life with the Radio Demon going?”
“Oh it’s going quite well, actually. Alastor is helping me get used to being an Overlord. He’s been such a darling about it.”
“You two are great together.” Lily smiled. “You seem perfect for one another.”
You waved it off good-naturedly. “I am very lucky. I couldn’t have found a better man to spend my afterlife with.” You sighed, happily, before turning to Static. “What about you? How’s life dating a famous media mogul?”
Static grinned. “Wonderful… When he’s not spying on me.”
At your semi-confused look, Static pointedly looked at a TV across the street, which was filled with Vox’s face as he unabashedly spied on you three (though at least he had the decency to look a bit sheepish at being caught). Before he could speak, Static made a gesture with her hand and glitched out the TV screen, though she was just as quick to pull up her phone, where the man in question was now pulled up on the screen.
“Vox.” She chided, her tone bemused and borderline sing-songish. “I thought we talked about this~”
“We did… I was just checking on you to make sure you got there okay.” He defended, though even you could tell he was still sheepish at being caught. “Besides, I’m not the only one! Val’s here too!”
There was a slight curse in Spanish from the background. “Why rat me out like that, Voxy?”
Lily blinked as she heard her boyfriend on the phone, then giggled before she leaned over in view of the screen.
“Val, I’m okay. I promise.” She waved, then blew him a kiss.
Static gently shook her head. “You boys calm down, okay? We’ll see you at home in a few hours.” She shushed them before she hung up the phone, rolling her eyes. “Red, I mean this, you are SO lucky you don’t have to worry about stuff like that.”
You smirked wryly. “I wouldn’t be so sure of that…”
When the girls gave you a clueless look, you nodded down towards your shadow on the ground. Except, the shadow was very clearly not of your own silhouette, and instead sported very deer-like features. Alastor’s shadow had a tendency to follow you everywhere, even if it wasn’t sent by it’s master (though it often was given Alastor’s paranoia of you being hurt).
You whistled, and you watched as it rose up from the floor and assumed a very noticeably guilty look. Arms folded behind his back, ears and shoulders slumped. Like a child with their hand caught in the cookie jar.
“What is that?” Lily whispered.
“Alastor’s shadow.” Static muttered back. “I didn’t think it was sentient, though.”
“Oh, it very much is. It’s grown rather fond of me as well.” You used, reaching out to lightly tip it’s chin to face you. “Go back to Al, and tell him that I’m okay, alright? No more snooping. It’s rude.”
It nodded, and was about to melt back into the floor when you leaned in to give it a peck on the cheek. That made it perk right up, and it seemed to be vibrating with emotion as it darted off at your bidding.
Static laughed, and Lily giggled.
“That’s adorable.” Lily cooed. “Kinda scary, but adorable.”
“I guess you’re right.” Static chuckled. “I guess all of us have some overprotective boyfriends. Not that that’s a bad thing. All the time.”
You smiled, nodding towards the waiter that brought your refreshments, before you snagged your cup and held it up in a mock toast.
“To our charmingly overprotective partners.”
“I can toast to that.”
“Me too!”
Ah… This could be the start of such a wonderful relationship…
