The vast expanse of the Earth Kingdom stretched endlessly beneath the pale light of a setting sun. Aang adjusted his collar nervously, his usual carefree demeanor replaced with an anxious anticipation. He had been practicing his words all morning, but now that the moment was here, his palms were sweaty, and his mind blank.
"Spit it out already, Twinkle Toes," Toph teased as she crossed her arms, standing atop a small, secluded hill she had effortlessly raised. Her bare feet tapped the ground, reading the vibrations Aang gave off like an open book.
"I-I wasn’t going to say anything just yet," he stammered, twiddling his thumbs. "But since we’re here…" He trailed off, turning his gaze to the horizon.
It had taken weeks of planning to get her to this spot, a place where the Earth and Air harmonized. The gentle breeze played with Toph’s hair as Aang inhaled deeply, trying to summon his courage.
Toph tilted her head. "You're worse at hiding secrets than Sokka, and that guy's got a voice louder than a rockslide."
Aang smiled at her jab. He stepped closer and took her hand. "Toph, there's something I want to show you."
Her eyebrows knitted in mild confusion, but she allowed him to guide her. He drew patterns in the air with fluid movements, a blend of Earthbending and Airbending swirling the dust and wind together. The elements danced before them, solidifying into an intricate sculpture—a lotus, glowing softly in the fading light.
Toph blinked, letting her feet ground into the earth to "see" it better. "That’s pretty neat. What’s the occasion, Twinkle Toes?"
Aang lowered to one knee, holding out a ring of gold and jade that gleamed as if touched by the sun. He bent it gently into the shape of a small mountain, reminiscent of her home.
"Toph Bei Fong," Aang began, voice steady despite the pounding in his chest. "You’ve taught me strength, resilience, and the importance of staying grounded. With you, I've always felt at home, no matter where we are. I want to build a life with you, as unshakeable as the earth beneath our feet. Will you marry me?"
Toph was quiet, her lips pressing into a thin line. Then, with a smirk that rivaled the pride she showed during her Earth Rumble days, she grabbed him by the collar and yanked him upright.
"Took you long enough," she said, her voice cracking slightly. "Of course, you knucklehead."
Aang barely registered the words before she punched his arm lightly and wrapped him in an uncharacteristically tender hug.
"I guess you’ll be stuck with me for life," she murmured, her tone soft but playful.
"Wouldn’t have it any other way," he whispered back, his grin wide enough to rival Appa’s.
Above them, the stars began to twinkle as the world bore witness to their new beginning.
