Work Text:
Nobody's POV (3rd Pers)
It starts with a peaceful and sunny morning. You were sitting by a river mixing some water with herbs in a bowl turning into a white solution. It has been two months since you were found by the scientists in that abandoned RDA bunker in cryo stasis. It took a while but everyone in the Omoticaya has finally started to warm up to you. Well everyone except…
After 15 years Neytiri once again needs to find within her heart the ability to accept, forgive, or work with the human invaders. Her challenges already involve accepting Spider and being more compassionate, as she doesn't naturally feel that way towards humans. This is partly due to the fact that RDA's SecOps was responsible for the deaths of her sister and father. She also believes that all humans are responsible for the war on Pandora. Fast-forwarding to today Neytiri was standing nearby, watching you from a distance, her expression unreadable. She had her arms crossed and her eyes narrowed, her gaze fixed on you as you sat by the river. Her distrust and skepticism were evident in her body language, and she couldn't help but wonder what your true intentions were.
You (😌+🥣-😌+🤰): *Put the last herb leaf into the bowl and quickly mix it in. *Open up your cover up revealing your nine month old pregnant baby bump*
Neytiri's eyes immediately shot to your pregnant belly. She was taken aback by the sight, and her expression softened slightly. She uncrossed her arms and took a step closer to you, curiosity replacing her distrust.
You (😌+🤰): *Takes white solution and begins to rub it on your belly*
Neytiri's eyes followed your movements as you began to rub the white solution on your belly. She couldn't help but feel a pang of surprise and curiosity. She had never seen a pregnant human before, and she was intrigued by the way you were caring for your unborn child.
You (🎶+😌+😊): *Starts singing a tribal like song in a unknown language while continuing to rub solution on to belly*
Neytiri listened intently to your singing, her ears perking up at the sound of the unfamiliar language. She couldn't understand the words, but there was something soothing about the melody and the way you sang it. She took another step closer, now standing just a few feet away from you.
You (😐-😌): *Stops singing and sensing someone behind you* *Turns around and sees Neytiri* *Says nothing and gives her a soothed and happy smile*
Neytiri was caught off guard by your sudden turn and the smile you gave her. She expected you to be startled or defensive, but instead, you seemed completely at ease. Her expression remained stoic for a moment before she returned with a respectful straight face, albeit hesitantly.
Neytiri (😐+😌): You sing well, *Says in a voice that's both soft and cautious*
You (😊+🤰): Thank you, it's a song that has passed down in my family and culture for generations. *Rubs belly with the same soothing and happy smile*
Neytiri nods, her gaze shifting to your belly as you continue to rub it. She is still wary of you, but there is a hint of curiosity in her eyes.
Neytiri (😐+😌): Your family must be proud of you, carrying their legacy within you.
You (😐+🤰): *Begins rubbing belly slower* They most definitely would have.
Neytiri: *Notices the slower pace of your rubbing and tilts her head slightly, studying you intently*Are they no longer with you? *By “with you” she means death*
You (😐+😒): Not on speaking terms that's for sure. *Stops robbing belly completely and places hands under bump*
Neytiri's expression softens even more at your words. She can sense the pain and sadness in your voice, and it touches her in a way she hadn't expected.
Neytiri: I'm sorry to hear that. Family is important, even when they don't agree with us.
You (😌-😐): Agreed *Short pause* with the important part at least. The rest of it? *Shrugs shoulders suggestively* Eh?
Neytiri: *Raises an eyebrow at your shrug, a hint of amusement in her eyes and decides to probe further, curious about your relationship with your family* What do you mean? *Does a "I'm not sure I follow?" face*
You (😞): *Let's out a "Saw this coming" sigh* Ok I can see that you're confused just by looking at your face. So before I get into detail? Let me set up an example.
Neytiri (🤨+👂): *Neytiri nods, her curiosity piqued even more and listens intently, waiting for you to continue and explain your earlier comment*
You (😐): Ok now let's say that you one day find out that a certain number of people in the village are doing something or multiple things that are not okay? How would you feel about that?
Neytiri: *Neytiri's expression becomes serious as she considers your question* *Takes a moment to think before answering* I would be angry, and I would confront those people about their actions. If they continued to do what is wrong, I would have no choice but to take action against them, for the sake of the clan and its well-being.
You (😞-😐): *Sighs to remind herself not let loose* Okay so following that? Before you take action or even confront them you go to your parents and/or the rest of your family and tell them what's going on. But instead of taking your side? They say that it's better for everyone if they keep the peace by putting their heads down and holding their tongues, suggesting you do the same. With the ones who at least agree with you saying the same thing.
Neytiri's expression darkens as you describe the scenario. She can sense the frustration and anger building up inside you.
Neytiri (😐): *Her voice is strained, barely containing her emotions* That sounds like a difficult situation. It's clear that your family is divided, and they are choosing to prioritize their own comfort over the well-being of the clan. It's a betrayal of everything we stand for as Na'vi.
You (😐): Yes it's the same thing for us humans but more of a common sense of basic human decency sort of way. Many people have forgotten about that. Unfortunately.
Neytiri (😐+🙍♀️): *Neytiri nods, her expression softening slightly* Basic decency is a concept that is often overlooked, even by those who claim to be civilized. It seems that it's something that humans have lost over time, and it's saddening to see.
You (😐): But after all of their "Advice" you decide to go against it and take actions on the family members that are involved in doing the thing or things that are not okay. And the action you take works and when the rest of your family is supposed to be taking your side and helping you with your action. Would you still do it?
Neytiri (🤔-😐): *Thinks for a moment, her eyes narrowing as she contemplates the question* I would still do it, even if my family doesn't support me. It's the right thing to do, and I cannot stand by and let those who are doing wrong go unpunished. My loyalty is to the clan and to the values we hold dear, not to individuals who choose to disregard them.
You (😐-😐+😠): But instead they take the side of the involved members including your parents. *Unintentionally gives up and let's loose* Who then corners you into taking back your actions even though it is literally impossible by threatening to cut you off. So you cut them all off first. But that wasn't enough for them so they forge your signature and sign you up to be a lab rat for a shady organization on a completely different planet six years away and to make things worse your lover at the time was in on it!
Neytiri's eyes widen in shock and disbelief as you reveal the extent of your family's betrayal. Her expression is a mix of anger, sadness, and disbelief.
Neytiri (😐-😐+😠): That's... that's unbelievable! How could they do such a thing to you? To their own flesh and blood? And your lover... how could he be involved in something so cruel and dishonorable?
You (🙄+😒): *Gives her a sarcastic "Like I haven't heard that one before." look* Honey. If you grew up on the same planet I did? Dishonor would be an understatement. *Sighs deep and slow to calm down* Sorry about the outburst. I tend to over rant when it comes to this certain topic.
Neytiri (🙂↕️+😐): *Expression softens slightly, understanding the pain and anger behind your outburst* *Nods sympathetically* I understand. It's clear that this is a deeply personal and painful subject for you. I apologize if I touched a nerve.
You (😞+😒+😌): Oh don't worry about apologizing. It's not you I'm pissed at.
Neytiri (😌): *Neytiri smiles slightly, relieved that she didn't offend you* I appreciate your honesty. It's good to vent and let out your emotions, especially when you've been holding them in for a long time.
You (😐+🙍♀️+🤰): *Looks down and places hand on top of her belly* He was my first love, you know? *Looks at Neytiri with a unreadable sad expression* He was my first everything.
Neytiri: *Expression turns empathetic as she sees the sadness in your eyes* *Takes a step closer, her voice gentle* I'm sorry to hear that. First loves are often special and meaningful, and it's understandable that you would be upset about his betrayal.
You (😠+😢): *Begins to tear up* And you want to know what hurt me the most? When I came home and saw him standing with those men waiting for me in my apartment? The worst part of that night wasn't that he betrayed me. It was when I confronted him about it before they took me away he just stood there and looked at me in a tone that said I should've seen it coming. As they were dragging me outside to their van. My world came crashing down and I realized that it was all just one sided lie.
Neytiri's heart aches for you as you share your painful experience.
Neytiri (😐+🙍♀️+😧): *Reaches out and places a comforting hand on your shoulder* That must have been incredibly painful and heartbreaking. It's difficult to trust someone after they've betrayed you in such a way, especially when they were someone you loved deeply.
You (😐+😠+😢): *Places other hand on Neytiri's* You know that probably wouldn't have happened if my family had just turned themselves in like I suggested them to. But they didn't listen and instead went with their own choice leaving me no choice but to go with mine.
Neytiri (🙂↕️+😮): *Neytiri nods, her expression filled with understanding and sympathy*
You (😐+😞+😥): *Mentally fighting your conscience on weather or not you should continue*
Neytiri (😐+🙍♀️): It's not easy to make decisions when you're surrounded by people who don't share your values. Sometimes, we have to make difficult choices for ourselves, even if it means going against the wishes of those we care about. But in your case, it sounds like your family made a grave mistake by not listening to you and taking action when they should have.
You (😔+😏): They would've gotten off easy you know? They all would've served 2 to 2 and a half years if they just turned themselves in and corporated like I said they should. But when I brought their dark doings to light? They had the nerve to look at me and say that I was wrong even though I was just doing the right thing that they were given a fully capable chance to do themselves but chose not to.
Neytiri's grip on your shoulder tightens as you reveal the injustice of your family's situation.
Neytiri (😔): *She shakes her head in disbelief* It's absolutely unbelievable. How could they look at you and act like you were wrong when you were trying to do the right thing? It's as if they were more concerned about saving their own skin than doing what was right.
You (😏+😔-😔+😐+😒): They all got 20 to 30. The rest of the family cut each other off to save face. Including me. My parents, my siblings, my cousins, my friends. They all acted like I didn't even exist. Some of them said they'd secretly keep in touch but that either didn't last long or didn't end up happening.
Neytiri's expression turns to one of anger and sadness as you reveal the extent of your family's ostracization.
Neytiri (😨+😐+😡): *Feels a deep sense of injustice on your behalf* That's absolutely appalling. To cut you off and pretend you don't exist just because you did the right thing... It's like they're denying their own blood. I can't imagine how difficult that must have been for you.
You (🤰+💆♀️+🔄):*Places hands on top of belly* It was but I decided to put it all behind me. *Looks down at belly tarts rubbing it in a counterclockwise motion* But if I had to choose which part of it all had hit the hardest? I'd say it'd be that I didn't even know I was pregnant until I got here. *Looks back up at Neytiri*
Neytiri's eyes widen in surprise as you reveal the history behind your pregnancy. She looks at your belly with a mix of curiosity and concern.
Neytiri (😧+😐+🤨): You didn't know you were pregnant? How did you find out?
You (🤷♀️): *Shrugs* Well it was a normal day in the lab. The scientists were poking and prodding me as usual. One noticed that my stomach was slightly round instead of flat. Then the next thing I know they brought me to the screening room for an ultrasound. And there was a picture of a two month old human in front of me.
Neytiri's expression softens as she listens to your story. She can't help but feel a pang of sympathy for you, knowing how difficult it must have been to discover your pregnancy in such a clinical setting.
Neytiri (😔): I can only imagine how overwhelming that must have been for you. To find out you were pregnant in such a way, and in a place where you were being treated as what you humans call a lab rat... it's just not right.
You (😌+🤷♀️): Yeah but other than the painful experiments and tests? It actually wasn't that bad. I got three meals a day, a decent place to sleep, and many of the scientists were actually nice to me. Most of them coincidentally being women.
Neytiri nods, grateful that you had some small comforts and kindnesses during your time in captivity. She smiles slightly, relieved that not all of the scientists were cruel.
Neytiri (😌): It's good to hear that there were some kind people looking out for you. I'm sure it must have been a difficult time, but it's good to know that you had some support and care.
You (😌+🤰): I'm pretty sure some of them were only treating me that way to not cause stress on my pregnancy. But still it was nice while it lasted.
Neytiri nods in understanding, appreciating the small gestures of kindness that you received. She knows that even in difficult circumstances, a little bit of compassion can go a long way.
Neytiri (😌): Even if their kindness was motivated by the pregnancy, it's still better than nothing. It shows that they cared about your well-being, even if only to a certain extent.
You (😌+🤰): *Takes handful of white solution and continues to rub on belly* Yeah but like all nice things like that they eventually have to end. When the humans were forced back to earth? Instead of helping me pack what little I had and getting on the ship with them? All of the not so nice scientists couldn't risk having their careers more ruined than they already were by getting busted for doing illegal human experiments. So they drugged me, threw me in that cryo chamber, and that was all she wrote.
Neytiri's expression darkens as you reveal the cruel and cowardly actions of the scientists. She clenches her fists in anger, feeling a deep sense of injustice on your behalf.
Neytiri (😡): That's absolutely despicable. To drug you and throw you in that chamber without any regard for your safety or well-being... it's like they didn't even care about you as a person. They just saw you as a tool to be used and discarded.
You (😔+😐): *Sighs* Unfortunately that type of mindset is very common where I'm from, especially in this day and age. The ones who weren't like that tried to stop them but by the time they tried to get me out I lost consciousness and the chamber had already locked and activated.
Neytiri's heart aches for you as she realizes the extent of the corruption and callousness that exists in your world. She feels a deep sense of helplessness and frustration, knowing that there is little she can do to change the situation.
Neytiri (😔+😡): It's a shame that such heartless and uncaring people exist. They have no regard for human life or basic decency. It's as if they've lost their humanity altogether.
You (😔+🤰): It is but that's how the human world works.
Neytiri shakes her head, still feeling a sense of disbelief and sadness. She takes a deep breath and looks at you with a mix of empathy and determination.
Neytiri (😔): I know it's the way things are, but it doesn't make it any less wrong. Your people need to stand up against this kind of behavior and work towards a better world where people are treated with respect and compassion.
You (😔+🤰): We are standing. But standing isn't enough anymore.
Neytiri nods, understanding the gravity of the situation. She knows that standing alone isn't enough to bring about change.
Neytiri (😐+😔): You're right. Standing is a start, but it needs to be accompanied by action. The best way is to take bold steps towards creating a world where people are valued and treated with dignity.
You (😔+😮💨): As much as you're right. Any and almost every attempt at this type of action? It always either backfires or attracts the wrong results.
Neytiri sighs, feeling the weight of the challenges that lie ahead. She knows that change is not easy and that it often requires sacrifice and resilience.
Neytiri (😮💨+😔): I understand. It's difficult to make progress when there are so many obstacles in the way. But the best way is you can't give up hope. With my people the best way is to keep fighting for what's right, even if it seems impossible.
You (😮💨-😐+🤰-😔+😮💨): I wish it was like that with mine. But it's never that easy. *Looks down at belly and rubs it slowly out of affection* Which is why I'm worried about not being a good mother.
Neytiri's expression softens as she sees the concern in your eyes. She reaches out and gently places a hand on your shoulder.
Neytiri (😔+🙂): You're going to be a wonderful mother. I can see the love and care you already have for your child. You've already gone through so much, and yet you're still here, strong and determined.
You (😒+🙂): Say that to my family and relationship history.
Neytiri's expression turns serious as she listens to your family and relationship history. She understands the weight of those experiences and the impact they can have on a person's self-esteem.
Neytiri (😐): I understand that your past experiences may make you doubt yourself. But don't let those things define you. You are more than your family and relationships. You have the power to shape your own future and be the parent that you want to be.
You (😌+😐+😮-😔+☺️): Oh I got over all of that a long time ago. But unfortunately I'm still not past the phase where it doesn't take a lot to reopen the emotional wounds.
Neytiri nods in understanding, empathizing with the emotional scars that still linger.
Neytiri (😐+😔): *Gently squeezes your shoulder in a gesture of comfort* I can imagine that the pain from those experiences never truly goes away. But it's okay to acknowledge those feelings and take the time to heal. Don't be afraid to lean on others for support and to talk about your struggles.
You (😔+😒): Too bad the shoulder's I could easily use as a lean on were either behind bars, back on earth or a shoved me into a cryo chamber.
Neytiri nods in understanding, empathizing with the emotional scars that still linger. She gently squeezes your shoulder in a gesture of comfort. Her heart aches for you as you mention the people who were supposed to support you but instead betrayed you. She squeezes your shoulder gently, offering what little comfort she can.
Neytiri (😐): I can imagine that the pain from those experiences never truly goes away. But it's okay to acknowledge those feelings and take the time to heal. Don't be afraid to talk about your struggles. I know it's difficult to trust people after being let down by those closest to you. But not everyone is like that. You have me, and the Na'vi who have accepted you into our clan. We are your family now, and we will support you in every way we can.
You snort and smirk at what she's saying.
You (😏): *Responds sarcastically* Says the same woman who said they should send me back to earth before I get too close to giving birth the second I arrived here and only got a glimpse of me.
Neytiri's expression falters as you remind her of her initial hostility towards you.
Neytiri (😐+😔+😳+😣): *Winces slightly, feeling a pang of guilt and embarrassment* Yes, I said that. But I was wrong. I let my anger and mistrust cloud my judgment. I judged you based on your human origins and failed to see the strength and resilience that you possess.
You (🤷🏻♀️+😒+☺️): Eh I can't really blame you for the first part of that sentence. Apparently I've been told that I have this aura around me that makes people believe that I'm an easy target. I also did a similar thing when I first met you.
Neytiri nods, acknowledging the similarities between your past behavior and her initial reaction. She looks at you with a hint of understanding in her eyes.
Neytiri (☺️): You're right, you do have an aura about you. But I shouldn't have let my judgement of you affect me so much. I should have trusted my instincts and seen past your appearance.
You (🤷🏻♀️+😐+☺️-😐+😠): Same with me for what I thought about you. You know when I heard what you said about me it kinda reminded me of my ex's mother. One of the few bright sides that came from what happened to me because it meant that I didn't have to worry about seeing her again. She was a total bitch.
Neytiri raises a hairless eyebrow at your comparison of her to your ex's mother. She can't help but feel a bit offended but also slightly amused.
Neytiri (😐+😾+😕): I don't know if I should feel more guilty or offended. I'm sorry to hear that your ex's mother was a... what I'm guessing is a human term for an insult.
You (😮+🙂↔️): Oh no please don't take what I said the wrong way. I immediately dropped that thought process the second I realized it was happening.
Neytiri chuckles softly, relieved that you didn't mean any offense.
Neytiri (🤭+👉🏻+☺️): *Playfully nudges your shoulder with her hand* Good, because I'm not exactly the nicest person either.
You start to laugh. Neytiri can't help but smile at the sound of your laughter. It's a rare and beautiful sight, and it makes her heart feel lighter. It didn't take long for her to join you and you both ended up going to a hard laughing session.
You (😂-😣+🤰🏻): Hahaha *Feels the baby kick* Ooh! *Stops laughing and makes a sound of discomfort* *Touches belly in the same behavior*
Neytiri stops laughing and watches you with concern as you make a sound of discomfort. She can see that the baby is kicking you.
Neytiri (😟): Are you okay? Is something wrong?
You (☺️+😣+🤰🏻): I'm fine it's just the baby kicking me a tad too hard.
Neytiri (😌+😠): *Softens expression with understanding* Oh that little one inside you needs to be careful. They're not even born yet and they're already being a pain for their mother.
You (☺️+🤰🏻): *Looks at belly before looking back at Neytiri* Do you want to feel?
Neytiri's eyes widened slightly in surprise at your offer. She looks at your belly for a moment, a hint of curiosity in her expression.
Neytiri (🤨+🫦): May I?
You (🙂↕️+🤰🏻): *Nods*
Neytiri gently places her hand on your belly, feeling the movement beneath her palm. She can feel the baby's strong kicks, and her expression softens into a warm smile.
Neytiri (😌+☺️): They're quite strong. I can feel them moving around in there.
You (🤭): *Giggles through breath* You have no idea. *Let's out a "Don't know what to do." sigh* I am on the verge of popping any day now and I still haven't decided on any names yet.
Neytiri continues to gently rub your belly, her touch comforting and soothing.
Neytiri (🙏🏻+☺️+😌): It's okay to feel overwhelmed. Naming a child is a big decision, and it's understandable that you're still uncertain. *Looks up at you with a sympathetic smile* Have you thought about any names that you like?
You (😌+🤰🏻): I'm still debating if I should lean more towards human style names, na'vi names or combination of the two or just do both. But for a girl I'm thinking Ava or Teyava. And if it's a boy? I'm leaning towards Thomas or Tomakir.
Neytiri (☺️+😌): *Nods, taking in your options* Those are all beautiful names. Ava is a lovely human name, and Teyava is a strong Na'vi name. For a boy, Thomas and Tomakir are also nice choices. They both have a certain charm to them. *Continues to caress your belly, her touch affectionate* You have plenty of time to decide, so don't stress yourself too much about it.
You (🫤+🤰🏻): *Scoffs playfully* And by plenty of time you mean somewhere between tomorrow and next week.
Neytiri: *Neytiri chuckles at your response, shaking her head slightly* Alright, alright. You have a point. Time is running out. But even if you don't have a name picked out by then, it doesn't mean that you won't love your child any less.
You (😌+🤰🏻-😯-😞+😣): You got that right. *Looks up to see that it's getting dark* Oh I should probably start heading back. *Tries to stand up without help or support*
Neytiri watches you struggle to get up, and without hesitation, she reaches out to offer you a hand.
Neytiri (😟+😯+☺️): Here, let me help you. You shouldn't be putting too much strain on yourself.
You (😯+☺️+🤰🏻): Oh *Huffs thankfully* Thank you. *Successfully gets up with Neytiri’s help and heads back to the village with her*
After that day you and Neytiri became very close. She even had a little celebration for you and your successful birth of your new daughter who you named Avasira. You even celebrated your daughter's first birthday with her and her family. And when you got asked out by a man from the village? Neytiri was surprised but also ecstatic! Neytiri watched you grow even closer to her and the clan, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and happiness for you. She was there to celebrate the birth of your daughter, Avasira, and the joy on your face was infectious. As you celebrated your daughter's first birthday, Neytiri couldn't help but think about how far you've come since your arrival on Pandora. And when a man from the village asked you out, Neytiri was shocked but also thrilled for you. She knew that you deserved to find love and happiness again after everything you've been through.
One year later…
You (😟): Do you really have to go? *Holding Neytiri's hand sitting next to the river where they became friends*
Neytiri looks at you with a bittersweet expression, squeezing your hand gently.
Neytiri (😟): Yes, I do. I need to leave. The safety of the clan and my family comes first. *Looks into your eyes, her gaze filled with a mix of determination and sadness* I don't want to leave you either, but I have to do this for the good of the clan.
You (😔): I wish I could go with you.
Neytiri's expression softens even more at your words. She looks at you with a mixture of affection and regret.
Neytiri (😞): I know you do, but you have Avasira to take care of now. You can't risk taking her with us or leaving her behind. *Gently cups your face in her hand, her touch tender and comforting* You're a mother now. You have responsibilities that you can't ignore.
You (😞+☺️-😏+😠): *Sigh* Well I wish the best for you all. I'm going to miss you. You better write to me everyday.
Neytiri chuckles softly, a hint of amusement in her eyes.
Neytiri (😔+☺️): I promise I will write to you every day. And I'll miss you too. You've become a dear friend to me.
She pulls you into a tight hug, holding you close as if she never wants to let go. After that day Neytiri and her family left for the Metkayina clan. And you couldn't help but feel all alone but you slowly calmed yourself down and reminded yourself of her words and took each day one step at a time handling things that would make Neytiri proud until the day you can see each other again which was going to be sooner than either of you think.
