Those lovin’ arms, they pull me back in

Summary:

TK has always loved racing at Texas Motor Speedway. He’s not sure why.

After almost four hours of driving, he has come to a conclusion. Well, correction, the conclusion was handed to him in victory lane.

Notes:

Inspired by a tumblr post by thatse-corvid-core-babey that said “oh to be an old cowboy, asleep on the front porch with my hat tipped down over my eyes and my head rested on my husband’s shoulder” (found on pinterest so hopefully op’s url is the same)

Title from Makin’ Me Look Good Again by Drake White

Main au fic will be dropped eventually I promise, nascar au brainrot goes so crazy I can’t sit down and write it without getting a million ideas for other bits

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

TK has always loved racing at Texas Motor Speedway. He’s not sure why. There’s never been anything particular about any of the tracks that made him prefer a certain one, but he always smiled when it’s time to go to Fort Worth, Texas. It’s not where he won his first race (that honor belongs to Bristol), but he guesses he does always place well in Fort Worth.

After almost four hours of driving, he has come to a conclusion. Well, correction, the conclusion was handed to him in victory lane.

A new black cowboy hat. His reward for beating the other 37 drivers.

It could just be adrenaline from the race, from his burn out. But he does really love the cowboy hat. Enough to not have taken it off since it got handed to him, other than when necessary.

“Are you ever going to take that off?” Sam asks him on the third day.

“What, you don’t like cowboys, Sammy?” TK asks in return. He smirks up at his boyfriend, and his arms shake around Sam’s waist.

Sam rolls his eyes, like he always does at TK’s antics, and presses his lips to TK’s in a short, soft kiss. “I’m not complaining. Just asking.”

TK leans up to kiss Sam. Before he gets there, Sam scoops him up.

“Taking me to the bedroom?”

“Easy, TK, we’re going out to the porch,” Sam carries him towards the front door.

TK huffs and goes deadweight in Sam’s arms. Just to be a little shit. Sam scoffs and places him on the porch swing, taking a seat beside him.

Sam grabs his book off the table beside him, taking his attention off TK.

“Really?” TK moves over, more into Sam’s space. “A book over me?”

“Shh,” Sam wraps an arm around TK, pulling him even closer. “Just take a nap.”

“So you don’t love me—“

Sam covers TK’s mouth with his hand.

“I love you, Travis,” Sam says TK’s first name with so much love, it’s impossible for TK to be bothered by the use of it, “Even though you never stop talking.”

TK pulls Sam’s hand off his mouth and places a kiss to the back of it, a quiet “I love you” accompanying the kiss. He looks up at Sam with a smile, knowing Sam is never actually annoyed when TK refuses to shut his mouth.

He tilts the cowboy hat that’s miraculously still on his head, even after trying to make things difficult for Sam earlier, down to cover his eyes. A soft breath leaves his lips as his brain slows down, matching the energy of the moment.

TK feels Sam pull him just a bit closer as he lets himself doze off. He’ll wake up and immediately get back to purposely getting on his sweet boyfriend’s nerves, but for now he’ll enjoy the afternoon sunshine and the sounds surrounding them.
