Koga gripped the bars of his cell, sticking his head out as far as it’d go between them. He snarled, pushing himself away from the stone cold bars.
Where the hell is that bunny bastard? He’s late!
He yanked at the chain around his neck in frustration, sitting down on his thin mattress. A certain police officer had been going against protocol just to talk to the puppy. Everyone knew it was against protocol to go out and make conversations with a prisoner, but the police officer treated Koga differently. He treated him like he was an equal– a well known acquaintance at that. He talked to him naturally, asking him how his day was and how the cafeteria food was that day. Koga, normally a very snappy dog, bit back his sarcastic remarks and answered the officer in a very, genuine, friendly way. The officer was going out of his way and against the law to make him feel a little less shitty, the least he could do was treat him with kindness.
.. I shouldn’t have trusted him. Prolly got him in trouble.
He sighed, letting his fingers sink into his hair. Some time passed before he heard little pitter patters growing louder in volume; he might’ve perked up just a bit. If he had a tail, it’d surely be wagging right now. It had to have been him!
“Gah– Koga-kun!”
The officer urgently whispered.
“I-I’m so sorry I was late–! I was just baking you some sweets and I didn’t realize how late it was!”
He gripped the strap of his cooler, angel wings flapping idlely.
“Hajime, you’re here..”
Koga smiled faintly, staring down at the rabbit as he stared back up, returning the smile. Koga’s smile fainted once he processed what Hajime had just said.
“You.. baked me sweets?”
“Of course,, you were always telling me how bland the cafeteria food was, so I thought I’d try and make you feel better by baking you something sweet! I’m sure you’ll love it, my little siblings are always asking me to bake them pastries, ehe~”
Hajime stuck his hand into the bag, pulling out what looked to be a vanilla cupcake with a blue wrapper. It was topped with whip cream and a cherry, almost stereotypical to a cartoon.
“Ah, I made sure to make them vanilla flavored and not chocolate. I wouldn’t want this puppy getting sick~”
Koga would have socked him in the face through the bars if he wasn’t so adorable. Infact, his heart might have melted a little. “
Ya went through all this trouble for me? Ya could’ve been caught yet you still went through with it?”
Hajime tilted his head.
“Why wouldn’t I? We’re equals, after all~ just in different places.”
Koga stared at him with such gentleness in his eyes, placing his hand on the cell’s bar. He couldn’t believe he was saying this but he believed he never wanted to serve his sentence. He wanted to stay here with Hajime forever.
Hajime put his hand on the outer side of the cell’s bar. Their thumbs and pinkies rested against each other as they stood in a comfortable silence. Nobody’s ever treated Koga with such kindness.
.. Jime.
He gave very few people nicknames. He had decided that Hajime would be a part of those very few.
Hajime smiled sweetly, raising the cupcake up to Koga’s mouth as he neatly unwrapped it.
“Say ‘ah’~”
And so he did. He took a bite and damn was it a good cupcake. His delight showed on his face, causing Hajime’s smile to grow bigger and his cheeks flush with pink.
“I’m so happy you like them, I’ll start making them for you once a week if you’d like! There’s about another 5 in my cooler, all for you.”
Koga stuck his hand out from the cell, ruffling Hajime’s head of blue hair.
“You ain’t half bad, Jime.”
He was more than that. He was an angel sent from above.
