Chapter Text

your phone’s alarm blares as you stir awake, grumbling as you force your eyes open. it’s 6 am, you decided to wake up way earlier than usual so that you’ll have time to get dressed and do your makeup for school. through a friend of a friend, you found out that your crush and you would be sharing a class and you really want to impress him.

you and your mom had a huge argument last night. you hope she isn’t still angry with you, and its the one thing making you dread leaving bed in the first place.

you toss your legs over the edge of your bed, the left pant-leg your brandy melville sweatpants slightly rolled up to your calf. you stretch your arms out, a loud yawn and a gentle crack coming from your spine. you unlock your phone, smiling at your wallpaper which is an image of your favorite boy band — one direction. you open up your messaging app to send a quick text to your best friend, before setting it back down and finally standing up to get dressed.

you flick through your closet looking for the cutest possible outfit (everything besides your uniform would break dress-code, though, but who are you to care?)
you settle on a bubblegum pink mini skirt made from a velvet-like material and a low cut white top. it’s sort of bland, when it’s missing cute hair and accessories.
bending over, you pick up the small box you keep your necklaces and other trinkets inside of and begin to sift through the various metals. you for sure couldn’t afford this, your mother is a drug addict and your father died when you were seven, so all of it is stolen. you frown as you dwell on those facts a bit longer than you should.
picking out a white headband, you place it atop your head, figuring you could curl your hair and go for a more classic look.

you turn around to look in the mirror and you are certainly pleased by what you see. this is sure to impress jake.

you decide against makeup today, you recall overhearing jake tell his friends how much he just adores all natural girls and girls who like sports instead of magazines, you may dress basic, but you certainly aren’t like other girls — you even have a motorcycle poster besides your beatles poster, unlike those basic bitches who only have taylor swift posters, yuck!
it’s now 8 am, you took forever to get dressed!

you rush down the hallway, you see your mom in the living room, having a seemingly serious conversation with a strange man who you’ve never seen before, neither of them notice you standing there.

“take care of y/n, okay?” is the only thing you can hear her say as you watch the man hand her a fat wad of cash.
she looks toward you, a look of delight on her face. “y/n! there you are!” she swoons, gesturing for you to come closer.

“who…. is this?” you ask, completely confused and quite frankly, a bit scared.
“your new owner, of course! how else do you think i can afford this house?” she replies, pulling you closer into her side.

oh no.
you’ve found yourself in the exact situation you thought only happened in fiction.
your mom is selling you, but instead of to harry styles it’s… some random guy?

“what the fuck?!” you shout, both confused and horrified at what’s going on. “you’re joking, you can’t be serious!” you shout. “you can’t just sell me to some random guy!” shoving her away. in your fit of screaming you find yourself being grabbed by the arm by a larger, colder hand.

“don’t touch me! pervert! i’m calling the police!”

you don’t even have your phone. you left it in your room.
“calm down,” the man speaks, glaring down at you with deep, dull blue eyes.
“why should i listen to you?! i don’t know you!”
“jesus, bladee, just take her already.” your mother interrupts, lighting a cigarette. god you hate that bitch, plus… bladee? what a stupid name. his real name is probably harold or something.

admittedly, he is kind of cute, but you won’t let that get in the way of the fact that you’re basically being kidnapped.

“y/n, go get your stuff.” the man speaks, letting go of your arm.
there’s no way out of this so you might as well just do it and fight back later.
you scoff, turning around quickly to return to your room.

you pick up your phone, breathing heavily, the first thing you do is call your best friend.

“b/f/n, i need help! my mom is selling me-“ you begin. “wait, wait, you’re breaking up!” your friend interrupts, but you continue mouthing off.
“my mom sold me to this guy! it’s like those one direction fanfictions, but instead of harry styles it’s a guy who looks really weird and scares meee!” you cry, shoving as much as you can into your bags.
“you may never see me again!” you finish before quickly hanging up, tossing your phone into the bag as well so that it won’t be in sight — incase someone tries to take it from you. you’ve seen the movies, your life is over! you begin going over in your head how you’d escape, and what you’d do once you do.

you finish packing and your room is left with almost everything still in place. you pack a few pieces of warm clothing and a few pieces of casual clothing, unable to fit much more into your bag.

you wander back to the kitchen, head down, as your mother sees you off. “have fun, y/n! unless you die, or something, that would be so sad!” you clench your teeth, walking out your front door only to be met with a car that certainly isn’t yours. you cross your fingers as the man opens the back door for you. “not even the front door, does anyone know how to treat a lady?” you think to yourself, huffing as you take a seat next to an equally strange man. he’s on his phone and doesn’t even notice you. he’s around the same height, but he’s black. he seems quite friendly, though.
theres another guy beside him in the furthest right seat — he’s asian and looks a whole lot friendlier than the rest.

“so um… where are you taking me?” you ask, buckling in your seatbelt.
“you’ll see,” says the man who originally opened the door for you. you’re stuffed in the back of a car with 3 strange men, who paid money for you, and no one seems to care.

you’ve been driving a few hours, and so far nothing bad has happened besides the two men sitting next to you trying to make friendly conversation. they all have strange names — ecco, thaiboy and bladee. maybe names to conceal their identities, it makes sense, no one would ever buy someone under their real name.

once you arrive at your destination, you squint as you take in how large the house you’ve been driven to is— and how much nicer of a city you’re in. living here can’t be that bad, right?
you get out of the car, tailing behind the three men, carrying your single bag. you enter the house a little bit after them. it’s just as massive on the inside as it is outside!

“do.. you all live here?” you ask, amazed at how spacious just the living room is alone.
“yeah, yeah.” bladee replies, his accent is incredibly thick.
“you’re not from here, are you?” you ask.
he shakes his head. “all of us come from sweden.”
“oh, okay, i see.” you reply. “um… i get my own room, right?”
he doesn’t reply, simply taking a right and going up the staircase.
“do.. i follow him?” you turn and ask thaiboy, who is standing behind you.
“i wouldn’t count on it, man, follow me instead.” he replies, grabbing your arm and leading you up the stairs. “right, so here is my room, ben’s room, zak’s room..” he points out three separate doors amongst atleast ten.
“wait, ben and zak?” you ask him, tilting your head.
“ohhh no one told you,” he continues, rubbing his chin.
“err, the one who came to get you is benjamin, the one you sat next to is zak and i’m nino, but i dunno how long it’ll take for you to get on real name basis with them, but you can call me nino, we’re all family here, man!” he replies, before pointing out your room.
the door is still closed, so you go to open it.
you open it and peek inside. it’s large, like… super large. definitely an upgrade from your old home.
“holy shit!” you exclaim excitedly, it’s already partially decorated, and there are two doors within your room. one is a huge closet and the other is a bathroom.
“super fancy…” you say as you examine the room. it could do with more but you can go shopping a bit later. your door even has a lock on it — something incredibly new to you.

you set your bag on the floor of your closet before going to explore a bit more. right now — you’re most curious about what rich people keep around to eat, after all, you are quite hungry. you haven’t had breakfast or lunch yet, and dinner will be approaching soon. you rush down the stairs, b-lining toward the kitchen.

“y/n, you hungry?” you hear a soft voice ask from behind you, turning your head. “za-i mean- ecco, hi!” you greet, happy that you atleast got sold to people with money.
“yeah, very!” you reply to his question, rummaging through the fridge for something quick, right now even an apple sounds like the best possible thing to eat. of course it’s not exactly polite to go through a strangers fridge, but are you really strangers if they bought you?

“sit,” he begins, looking through the freezer for something. “i’ll cook for everyone, be patient, alright? get a muffin from the pantry in the meantime.” he continues. you nod before closing the fridge door and opening the pantry instead. the only muffins they have are lemon-blueberry, which, if you’re hungry it’s good enough.
you grab one from the plastic packaging before sitting at the table to eat it.
maybe it’s best to fill the silence with some conversation.

“hey… why’d you buy me?” you ask, staring at his back.
“just cause we could.” he replies, shrugging.
“there’s no catch to this? no.. like… sex slave stuff?” you ask, feeling a bit uncomfortable with your own words.
“what? definitely not. i’m… well, normal… and nino is married, but um, i can’t speak for ben.”
that piques your interest.
“what do you mean? is he into th” you’re cut off by the chair to the left of you being pulled out.
“heyyy what we talkin’ about?” the man who picked you up sitting beside you. “you gonna eat that?” he asks you, picking a piece from your muffin.
“well i was going to but never mind i guess…” you crossed your arms, rolling your eyes.
“don’t be like that,” he says, roughly rubbing a hand through your hair playfully. “you know it’s kind to share, especially with someone who you live with.”
yeah. you almost forgot about that. as far as you’re aware, you’re here forever.
“now, whats the topic?” he asks again.

“she’s asking why you bought her.” zak replies, quickly dicing garlic as he speaks.
“ohhh yeah! i just wanted to, you know, had nothing else to do.”
you stare at him blankly.
“right, so no weird sex stuff?”
“nah.” he replies, continuing to eat YOUR muffin.
“can’t you get your own?” you ask him, irate.
“don’t really feel like it, ya’know?”
you’ve barely been around him and he’s already getting on your final nerve.

“anyways, we need a new album cover, y/n, you’ll be on it.”
“you can’t just push that onto me!”
zak remains silent as you and benjamin go back and forth. it seems you’ll never stop butting heads.
“c’mon it’ll be fun!” he tries to reason with you. “i don’t care! not doing it!” you reply.
“i bought you for $10,000 , so anything goes.” he spits back, clearly expecting the conversation to end.

ten thousand? is that all your mother thinks you’re worth? at this point, it doesn’t seem so bad that she sold you off. she sucks.

Notes:

some quick character notes — i realized that these details aren’t really important & will sort of be mentioned in passing, so i’ll clarify them here!

1.y/n is still in high school and is 17 years old, so is jake, so is her best friend
[i know Reader — you, is probably in their early 20s though so just… imagine high school you i guess]

2. nino, zak are 28 (Not 23! if you saw that i’m sorry wtf) ben is 29. birthdays are still the same as irl… this may not make sense with certain things in the story but a. fanfiction logic is fun and b. this is an au anyways — the aging down is part of that.
