A Sliver of Yellow

Summary:

Hey, it's Simon! The friendliest Sprunki around is taking a shot at telling you a little about himself. After all, as the self-proclaimed melody, he should lead by example. That's the leader-y thing to do.

Work Text:

Hi! It's me, Simon! I'm doing one of these too, y'know, because this was my idea and all.

I'm not really sure how I should get this started… I guess an introduction would be good. I kinda already started one, so let's keep it going!

I'm the melody between all of us. Well, okay, I'm technically a melody, but there's nobody else who can control a rhythm like I can, so really I'm the melody, you know what I'm saying?

So yeah, I'm the melody. I'm not giving myself that title to be narcissistic or devalue them or anything, but… let's be real, Durple leaves too many gaps for the others to fill, Sky's too scared to take charge, and Tunner actually said that he's fine with supporting someone else, so that just leaves me! Unless Jevin can prove that the ‘trees can sing.’ He's been insisting that for a while…

I like to think I get along with everyone pretty well! Oren is my best friend, obviously. He's my buddy, my confidant, my… what other words are there for friend? Eh, doesn't matter, you get the idea.

We're close, but he's not the only one I hang around with. Durple, for example - he's pretty laid back, sure, but when he pulls out that trumpet… whooh, I'm telling you, he's got some kind of talent. He might be the most talented one here, if I dare say! It just sucks that he feels like he has to rely on the rest of us to round out his sound. He's never actually admitted that, but I can tell just by how much he pauses between what he plays. It's like he really wants to take the melody, but he doesn't feel like he can, you get it? Maybe I should bring it up sometime, one on one.

I think Vineria’s cool, too. She's got this thing going on with gardening, and she's even got this greenhouse all the way near the edge of the forest. I'm not allowed inside though; None of us are. She says that she doesn't trust us near the sensitive plants, which after what Tunner did… yeah, that's fair.

I don't really know her that much, though. I hear she's really close with Owakcx, but I've never seen them together, so don't take my word on it. She's just always so snappy whenever someone tries to talk to her when she's busy. And guess what, she always is! If I didn't know any better, I'd say she doesn't like us. She kinda reminds me of Jevin in that way. They both keep to themselves a lot, but they don't exactly hide away. They're just… generally disinterested, I think that's the right way to put it. But at least she hangs out with us sometimes, and she's actually pretty chill when she does.

Y'know, I got a conspiracy theory about her. You know that wig that she's always wearing? I'm like… forty percent sure that it's actually a parasite. Think about it! She never takes it off, and yeah, gardening could just be a hobby, but it's a little weird to be so into it, right? I mean, I have hobbies too, but I don't make them my whole thing. I'm not going to propose it to anyone just yet, though. I don't have any proof. Just a hunch. Heh, it'd be funny if it were actually true though.

See, who I'm really curious about is Gray. He's not like the rest of us - and I don't mean that in a bad way! He's just so muted and dull compared to the rest of us, and he's always got this melancholy vibe around him. I don't think I've ever seen him smile, now that I'm thinking about it. It doesn't help that I rarely ever see him around, either. Unless I'm actively looking for him, it's like he doesn't exist! And always with that same detached look on his face…

Honestly, it's a shame he's so reserved. I see the way he watches the rest of us, and he's got that look in his eyes, like he really wants to be a part of whatever we're doing. But at the same time, he's just so hesitant to accept any invitation! He's a mystery. A mystery I want to solve. Me, Oren, and Durple are having a gaming competition in a few days, I'm going to see if I can tag him along too. I want to give him another chance to come out of his shell, y'know?

Uhh, what else is there to say… you know I had a whole list of things I wanted to get off my chest before actually doing this, but I guess I got too caught up in my rambling. Uhh… I mean, I'm only doing this because I thought I'd be fun, y'know? I've noticed some tensions rising up, and it's kind of bringing down the vibe a little. So I thought a confession booth sort of deal would give others a place to vent! I'm here to give it some legitimacy, because this was my suggestion and all, but imma be real… I don't really have anything to say. Well, apart from that ramble about my friends, but I haven't said anything that I'm not willing to admit to their faces. I don't have a lot of real problems anyway, nothing that'll take a lot of work to work out. But the responsible thing to do is to lead by example, so that's what I'm doing. I'm trying to work on myself in that regard.

I don't know how many of them will actually try this, but I hope at least the ones that need to will consider it. A Sprunki can hope, can't they?

Anyway, I think I'm done here. I might come back here again if that list I mentioned pops back into my brain later, but I don't think it will. After all, if it was important, I wouldn't have forgotten it, right? Right.

Notes:

Guess who finally read the wiki!
Unfortunately, the wiki kinda clashes with a few headcanons I have for this little series I have going. So if I decide to keep going - which I probably will - just be aware that there may be some mild mischaracterization as I prioritize vibes and execution over whatever the wiki says.
This will become extra prominent when I finally get around to typing up that shipfic.
