Work Text:
Nico closed his eyes for a moment trying to enjoy everything around him at its fullest. He was lying on the wooden floor of the boat with the tender fresh breeze in his golden hair. He got lost in thoughts cradled by the gentle wind and the freshness of the wood until a voice snaps at him with a delicate laugh.
"What are you thinking about?"
Nico opens his eyes again and turns his head on his left to look at lewis who was lying just next to him.
"I was just trying to remember something"
"Something, uh?"
Nico switches his gaze again, looking at the stars, looking at each of them deeply and carefully. "Yea, a story about stars that i heard once," the blonde says massaging his temples for a few seconds trying to recall it in his memory. "there were these two stars, Solas and Niah," he says while throwing his arms to the sky. "they were the opposite in love. Solas, star of dawn, wished his light to shine more, he assumed his light was more important than Niah's twilight." Nico swings his hands from a star to another pointing at all of them, while the boy near him tries to follow the quick changes. "<<Why would they want your darkness? They need my sun!>> Solas said to his lover. <<You are blinded by your light, my dear, they need you as much as they need me>> Niah replied" Nico keeps narrating the story, he started using different voices and tones for each character and Lewis looked at him amused.
'It's silly' Lewis thought.
Nico finally stops his hands and personification and he puts them behind his head to support it. "They got into a fight," the german says with a dumb smile. "in the end those two idiots of stars got into a fight, to the point that the gods divided them."
"And then? What about later?" The other one asks passionately without taking his eyes off the boy next to him, he was completely immersed in the story.
"Nothing. That's it." Nico lets out a sigh and Lewis's eyes open wide in disbelief. "They were divided forever." Nico keeps "Forever longing for eachother.. forever missing eachother."
"Oh.." is the only thing that Lewis could whisper as he shifts his gaze from Nico to the stars above them. "Why is Solas so dumb? People need both light and darkness. We couldn't appreciate one if we hadn't the other." The british boy complained, confused and almost irritated at the star's behaviour.
"I think I understand him," Nico confesses "people love light.. and instead they are scared of the dark. I guess Solas just couldn't understand that people needed light and darkness as much as light itself needed darkness, as much as Solas needed Niah."
Lewis reflects for some moments. "I still don't get it." He mutters while keeping his gaze on the stars and in a voice that showed clear confusion. He turns his head to Nico who just got up and was walking towards his black and blue backpack. Lewis sat up to look better at his friend and his smooth movements, he was opening the backpack and taking out a box of frosties. Nico approached Lewis back again, he stood in front of him looking in those eyes for some soft quick moments. The box between the two was the only thing that worked as a sort of barrier. The blonde gave Lewis a quick but fond look, he then threw his head back to look at the infinite sky and the impossible to count stars. All those far points in the sky, of every possible intensity and shape, warmth and strength. All different yet all important and beautiful.
Nico sits back next to his dear. "You will understand Solas one day."
"I don't think I will." The british commented confident about his ideas, he then follows Nico's gaze up in the sky. They started eating frostiest silently and a light smile of delight appears on the face of both. It was good to know that no matter how noisy the world could be, in that moment there were only two kids in Greece on a boat, looking at the stars and eating their food, knowing that it didn't matter how bad the future could be because those moments couldn't be erased, and the poetic beauty their hearts gained by living them could never be replaced, even by every star in the sky turning off. Because the show was done. The pact was made. The beauty was seen. It couldn't be erased.
Not from their eyes, not from their hearts.
"Hey, Nico," Lewis said to catch the german's attention but the other could only answers with a soft noise because of the frosties in his mouth.
"Those stars remind me of formula one drivers. Look that one! That's really bright, it's-"
"Yea, Michael Schumacher! The greatest." The german interrupts him, and in that moment there was this knowledge from both of them that even if their eyes were locked on those bright dots in a dark sky, their emotions were battling eachother in a warm embrace, combining their thoughts. Which made them both feel as they were naked from lies.
"Hey, Nico," he tells again.
"Yes?"
"Do you think we'll ever be part of that sky? As formula one drivers, being bright stars."
"I bet we'll be the brightest, we'll outshine everyone!" Nico declared jokingly but sincerely, like a kid who was still waiting for Santa on Christmas from how sure of his existence he was. "I'll beat you too!" the german stated bravely. "We will be on team together! In the best formula one team, but don't believe for not even a second I'll give you peace, Hamilton" he proclaimes with a big amused smile while pointing a finger directly on Lewis's chest.
"Oh Rosberg if you think that I'll let you pass you are so wrong, you will have to fight harshly. As if I even wanted it easy." the reply arrives fast and sharp.
They weren't battling, they were just dreaming. Dreaming with words. Nico was sure about their upcoming future, Lewis's light was already there, lighting up more and more by each day. Nico knew, Lewis's light was going to be as strong as Solas's one one day. But it wasn't enough, Lewis was Solas. He would have never stopped shined, but for his misfortune.. Nico was Niah.
the two star lovers could never escape their destiny, not in every universe.
